Who watched it/is going to watch it, and what are your comments?

So far, I think it is pretty good. I can see where they are going with it and it lends itself well with the Battlestar Galactica themes while at the same time being unique to itself.

Watching it now, like you said its pretty good so far, can't really find anything I dislike.

I like how they kept the Adama theme from BSG. You can also hear sprinklings of the other themes throughout the episode, most notable are the Colonial Anthem and Gaeta's Lament.

Yeah, McCreary did a nice homage to the Adama family theme. I've had the pilot since it came out on dvd last year, and I was definitely intrigued by the concept. I'm looking forward to next week for the first new episode.

True, but I want to give the series a chance to develop itself before making a judgment.

Firefly was an amazing series and didn't even air a whole season.

^And this means what exactly? We're judging a series on a pilot episode written a year ago. Sure, Firefly was almost entirely awesome, but this isn't Firefly.

And Firefly didn't exactly take off after the pilot anyways. Like Caprica, the Firefly pilot was much darker than the rest of the series.

So, should I watch this without having seen BSG or would that be silly? Can it stand on its own or do I have to have knowledge of BSG to understand it? I'm just really in the mood to watch a Sci Fi show and this looks pretty good.

I've only seen 1 or 2 ep of BSG. It's quite easy to follow. I don't see anything that require much or any prior knowledge. I can see a few shout-out to BSG fans.

Looks interesting. Girl playing zoe is cute, but a bit old looking to be 16. She looks like she's 19-21, not 16.

Ok, perhaps I will check it out then. Personally I like the actress that plays "Lacy Rand" (according to IMDB, I haven't watched it yet). She was in Kyle XY, and she looks exactly like a girl I know.

Yeah, this series requires no knowledge whatsoever of BSG, though as previously mentioned it does reference stuff from time to time. I liked the second episode- it threw out a lot of new plot points, and I'll be interested to see where the series goes from here.

I think that was because the producers wanted firefly to appeal to a much wider range of audience.

I think it would be interesting if Caprica ended with the beginning of the First Cylon War. It just seems like it's going in that direction to me. I just hope they don't jump ahead 12 years for the last episode, but during the last quarter of the series.

That would be cool, but that will all depend on how long the series itself will be. BSG was only 4 years due to them realizing they were running out of ideas and wanting to prevent any filler. Caprica could be shorter, longer, who knows. If it is longer, then the chances of them moving in that direction would be higher. BSG did a time jump, so it wouldn't be inconceivable that they would do that sort of thing. But at the same time, this is more of a family drama, so a time jump would be even more drastic in the storytelling.

Not particularly. It could segue quite well. All of the main characters we know now would be older, but not terribly so. I mean, there isn't that much time between Caprica and the beginning of the first war. It's only 12 years. Assuming none of the cast gets killed off, they'd all be there, keeping the family drama intact. Hell, we'd also have Bill Adama rebelling against his father for real to add to the mix.

Interesting. You have a point there.
