Basically, what I want to be able to do is use a specific programs keyboard shortcut while I'm not actually in that programs window. For example, if I'm just on the desktop, and Windows Media Player is minimized, I want to be able to press Ctrl+P to pause whats playing. Normally It has to be the active window for the programs shortcut keys to work, but I want to be able to use them while working in any application.

Does anyone know of a program or some kind of trick that would allow me to do that?

You can set a keyboard shortcut to open the media player and other programs http://www.teratips.com/create-keyboard-shortcuts-program/ might help a little?

I know how to use hotkeys to open programs, that's not what I'm talking about though. Thanks anyways.

It should work for multiple WMP versions.

Wow, thanks Patrick! That's really cool of you to do. That will be very useful to me and hopefully others too.

However, the directory for the download is forbidden atm, so whenever you can you'll need to change it

Can you throw up the source code? I'd like to see how this is done so I can try it with some other programs.

SendMessage API. Use Spy++ to capture the WM_COMMAND events (press capture and then click the play button etc) and imitate.
