I had searched all last night for the reason why. I can't play halo because of it. The only thing I really found was this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;320553#XSLTH3121121124120121120120

Neither of those work. Anyone with Vista have/had the same problem as me?

If the game is installed on your hard drive, go to www.gamecopyworld.com (http://www.gamecopyworld.com) and download a "no cd crack" for Halo. You own the game so it's legal.

But did you try removing the disc drive and then putting it back in? It worked for my card reader.

Is it external? Internal? Laptop?

Have you looked for drivers? Checked the device manager?

Is it still available in XP?

Right click Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management

Does your CD-Rom drive show up in there? If it does, right click and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and assign it a new drive letter. Windows may have decided to not assign it one for some reason.

I've had experiences where the drive disappeared because it died. First, check the connections on it. Make sure that nothing got unplugged. If you're sure about that and it still doesn't work, try it in another computer to see if it's dead or not. If it is, you have no choice but to pick one up for between $10 and $30 somewhere.

Well, it is internal. I have a desktop, just wiped the contents and installed Vista (from my dad's new laptop, :D). I have checked the device manager, and I can't use DAEMON Tools, it has the same problem. When I check in Vista, all my CD related drives have this yellow "!" icon beside it. When I get home (at school) I will try what jcap said. Thanks for the help thus far.

After that, look for drivers.

Alright, here is what I get if I do that:

How would I know which is the D: (my dvd) drive?
All I see is E:, which is my removable disc or w/e drive.

Btw, this is what I meant in disk management:

Hmm, this is a strange one. You could try going to controll panel and installing it from the add or remove hardware. Worth a try.

Yes! I deleted the Lower Filter in the registry editor and now it works. Thansk for the support.

i recomend using daemon tools to mount a cd image, assuming you have it legally. but now that u have ur drive working, u dont need that, but daemon tool saves so much time; it is very useful.

I know I fixed it, and thanks for the advice, but I had to quote myself. As you can see, it doesn't work.

I don't use ISO images. I use replacement EXE files.

Only legal if you own the game, and they arn't always up to date.
