View Full Version : What If Morrowind Wasn't Fugly As Shit?

It would probably look something like this.

I do not take credit for the mods shown in the pictures. I simply spent the time to configure and edit existing mods to create a nicer looking Morrowind. I uploaded the mod package (all files and DLL's included but no Morrowind.exe or Launcher.exe)

Quick Install Guide

1. Install Morrowind with Blood Moon and Tribunal.
2. Patch it to the latest version 1.6 something.
3. Download this DX9 redist. DOWNLOAD
(http://codebrainshideout.net/inferno/public%20files/directx_feb2010_redist.exe) 4. Download my mod package. DOWNLOAD
(http://codebrainshideout.net/inferno/public%20files/Morrowind%20-%20Infernos%20Mod%20Pack.rar) 8: Install the DX9 Redist.
5. Extract my .rar file and paste it over your Morrowind install directory.
6. ???
7. Profit!

Post any problems you have here.

If you want to remove the depth of field blur or add bloom or even just tweak the Distance settings then run the MGE app in the morrow ind folder. It will give you lots and lots of options. And if you re-generate the Distance mod then make sure you manually add the 4 grass mods to the INI.

Also do not mess with the ESP list. It should all run fine the way it is already set up.

edit-

After uploading the 1gb rar of the mod I realized that I left out a few textures. The mud crabs are pure white and there are a few other minor bugs I think. + I forgot to remove the nudey mod.

I'll make a patch for that if there's enough demand for it. :v:

I never did play Morrowind but I heard it's pretty good. Question is, what's its leveling system like? I cannot say I liked Oblivion's.

If I do get it, I'll definitely have to use this. Thanks!

Similar to oblivion. Not exactly. But similar.

Looks great, made me realize how generic Oblivion's endless forests were.

Dude they aren't generic. It's what makes the Elder Scrolls series, the Elder Scrolls.

Um? No.

The elder scrolls series is what it is because of its massive open worlds sprawling with interesting civilizations and thousands of NPC's all with there own personalities and unique dialogues. Not to mention some of the best fantasy art there is.

Not fucking trees.

Oh memories...

Might try this if I ever get around to installing Morrowind again since I never really finished it. Does it require a CD to play? I have my disks, I just don't want to have to lug them around :P.

Inferno

It requires a disc by default but that's easy to fix with a mini image or fixed exe.

That looks like shit...

This on the other hand:

Superiority. With the exception of JPEG compression.

It's easy to filter HDR/Bloom. But it looks ugly on the morrowind style.

Not just that, the images you posted literally look like shit. The textures are all brown on brown. Are there less literally shitty areas you could post screenshots from?

I don't like either. Anyway, the next elder scrolls is gonna own.

Have you played Morrowind? Or did you just go get images (even though you never have played the game) to try and shit up the thread?

Cortexian

Nope, haven't played it. Don't need to play a game that looks that bad.

I think its ugly, but I have no idea what the original looked like, and this could be a world of difference.

I spent 200 hours in Morrowind. It's actually Oblivion that I never got around to playing.

Are they going to make a lighting pass or is that the finished product? Looks deader than I remember it being.

The view distance in Morrowind was about 50 yards at the maximum settings.

The game had no support for LOD's.

All the highest res textures were roughly 256x256. Most of them were 128 and smaller.

There is a world of difference.

Morrowind has no support for specular. You can enable bloom or HDR with the MGE interface mod but it doesn't look great + horrible framerate drop. It's a old game alright : P.

But there were torches and other light sources. That's what I'm missing in these darker shots. Although some more modern touches would have been nice. Ahh, 2002.

Inferno

Yeah they are there. But they disable at a distance to keep your frame rate from going to shit. You can enable long distance lighting I think but I would be iffy.

I was doing the long shots to show off the LOD and distant land hacks.

There's a pretty useful thread over on SA about this: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3248990

I tried to play morrowind after spending hundreds of hours in Oblivion, but even with all the graphics upgrades I used, I couldn't get used to the combat system. Literally missing a babby worm at point blank with my dagger because of fatigue.

Inferno

Huh. When I did bloom and HDR filtering it looked like ass. Maybe it was my card rendering it wrong or something.

Also those foliage packs look nice. I should probably get those.
