I know this is a longshot, but it's worth a try. I've got this 7 year-ish old Sony mini system (Sony MHC-RG440) that's been godlike until I moved it down to my flat this year.
It has a distinct ticking sound, and every time it time it ticks, the stereo starts/stops producing sound, as if a fuse is being shorted. I've opened it up, and all the main power board fuses are intact. The headphones jack still works, so i'm assuming it's a problem where the stereo outputs to the speakers (it's still receiving sound, also indicated by the little illumation on the front). The power light on the sub woofer is also dimly lit and flickers.
So it could be a problem with soldering somewhere, or it's shorting, but the only thing i'm getting out of it from opening it up at the moment is spare screws. Has anyone had any experience at fixing something like this??
