Yeah I'm bored, so i'm looking for a sci-fi movie that makes you think (GATTACA, Contact, etc.) however it doesn't have to be super slow-going.

If you have a suggestion, post the imdb link as well as a short review and have at it.

All 15 or so episodes of firefly are on hulu. You don't need to watch them to enjoy the movie, I watched the movie first.

If you haven't seen Blade Runner, definitely put that on your list. Also try 2001: Space Odyssey.

As for Sci-fi series, well, the good ones are Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, Battlestar Galactica (new), Caprica, and Firefly. If you are into anime, try Ghost in the Shell (movies and series) and Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

What one was it with the city and the aliens that were editing people's memories, they edited one guy's memory but there was a glitch and the guy remembered who he was, and is trying to escape from the city?

That sounds similar to V, which there is a modern tv series remake of it going on.

Work your way through Star Trek series just watching your favorite episodes. Currently working through Voyager watching only the Dr. episodes. Just finished the one with Andy Dick guest starring.

The Fourth Kind
Dead Like Me

These^. However I've never seen "Dead like me". The Fourth Kind was really freaky for me because I didn't know what the movie was about and at the start (had been a few months since I had read the basic plot) they're all like "the following is based on true events blah blah :words:" which made me go "whaaaa?". Basically it's the Blair Witch Project for abductions in that it's portrays "real" events but said events didn't actually happen.

Event Horizon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_Horizon_%28film%29).
The Box (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Box_%28film%29).
Outpost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outpost_%28film%29).

Also there is Pandorum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandorum). Interesting movie.

Finally,

ZOMBIELAND! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombieland)

Pandorum reminded me of Event Horizon but not nearly as good. Even some of the sets looked the same - I'm pretty sure i saw the reactor from EH in pandorum.

also, the Riddick movies were decent, Simone, and that one movie with John Travolta...Battlefield Earth..not bad but kind of like Planet of the Apes.

if you wanted any anime in that list you could add any or all of the Robotech series/movies..Macross Plus was really good.

Dead like me is great. The series got canceled and the movie was made to end it, just like firefly, except not as awesome.

Moon. I think that's out on dvd by now...

Actually, the movie had potential to be a lot better- the premise they went with turned out to be rather contrived and disappointing, but it's still a fantastic film. I'm actually surprised I haven't bought it yet... hm, perhaps it's time I hit amazon...
