Some of you may know this already but i've actually been saving for the last year to do a massive american road trip when i finish my apprenticeship, i wanna stop by in just about as many places as i can, from the south to the north, and from the east to the west
I've got a few ideas already some of them obvious, some not so much but i'm really interested in natural geology and terrain.
So i'm talking:
Grand canyon
Mt St Helens
the arches
Those massive pillars
Death valley
and so on and so forth.
But i also want to meet up with as many people from here as i can (and maybe sleep on a few couches on the way through lol),
Problem is i just dont know where most of yas live.
Once i can pick out the structures and geology i want to look at and the people i want to meet, i should be able to make a Route for my time in the states.
i'm pretty excited about this so my question is this
Who wants to meet me and would you be ok if i slept on your couch for a night or 2 on my epic quest of self discovery :D?
Let me know fellas, in about 8 months or so i want to do this and i've gotta get some planning done.
It's time to stop talking about it, it's time to live my dream.
Will you help me :)?

Hey you kangaroo. If you decide to head toward Corbin, Ky (Home of the original KFC) you may stay with me if I'm still living here; I may head north for uni, I'll know for sure in a few months time. There's numerous state parks, cave systems, water falls, and overlooks within a 100 miles radius of here. Also, Rook lives near me, and we all know he's a natural attraction.

I highly advise you go along I-70E through Nevada, Utah and Colorado. You'll get to see some absolutely mindblowing vistas and rock formations, plus you'll go through Glenwood Canyon (stunningly beautiful) and over the Rocky Mountains. It would land you roughly in Denver, CO if you went that way, from which you can easily get to Kansas (which, admittedly, is boring as fuck unless you've got a supercell moving through it).
Also, if you can get away with it, I suggest trying to go to Yellowstone National Park, and I definitely recommend visiting Yosemite National Park in California.

Savannah, Georgia. By 2011 I'll be out of the dorms and have my own apartment, so if you're in the area, you're welcome to stay.
Savannah is a very historic city, one of the oldest in the US, I doubt there's much here you'll wanna see though lol.

This. The Colorado Rockies are absolutely gorgeous, IMO. I want to live here forever. I'll still be in Boulder then, although I'm not sure where my new apartment's gonna be. But yeah, if you want to see the Rockies for a couple of days, Boulder is the perfect place to set up camp- it's pretty central to Mountain scenery/rural scenery/Denver.
Zilla, I will see you in 8 months. :D

I'm in Manassas, Virginia...as fucked up as DC is it has all the museums. We've also got the Udvar-Hazy Aerospace museum (AKA: The Nation's Hangar) if you fancy that sort of thing (I sure as hell do :ross:). Also have Luray Caverns and the like around here.

This sounds like a pretty cool idea. I may go on a road trip one of these months myself (looking for work though, so my range will be a little more restricted than ANOTHER FREAKIN' CONTINENT!). It's too bad I have no idea where I'll be in eight months; it's very unlikely I'll be anywhere near a major route through Canada in the offchance you decide to cross the border.
Also...
You should video blog it, "Where in the world is Bodzilla?"
Definitely! Show us the sights too if you're going on an epic journey!

It has been determined that in 8 mos I'll be in Hawaii. If you start your trip in Hawaii or end it in Hawaii bodie you can come visit me. Especially since tickets to the place are nothing near as expensive as the ones during holiday. You come down and we'll go to some volcanoes n' crap, mb some underwater basket weaving etc.

i advise skipping death valley and the grand canyon. Death valley is very hot. To your Aussie adjusted body, it will probably feel about room temperature. Very boring. I've been to the grand canyon too. It was a giant hole in the ground.

I extend my dorm couch, if you happen to venture through NJ. Not a whole lot to see here, other than NYC, but the offer is open. I also support the video blog idea. Would be interesting and entertaining.

Come to Eau Claire, WI. We are awesome. Don't know if I will have a couch to spare in 8 months, but there is a cheap hotel less then a mile from here, and I'd be willing to pay the bill. (As long as it is 8months from now, I'm dirt poor at the moment).

Ye know, it'd be cheaper for ye to buy a couch, than to pay for a hotel prolly.... well ye know... depending on how many nights he stays and whatnot.

Hotel I'm thinking of is a cheap out-of-the-way hotel that's like $30 a night.

By the way, Zilla, I'm gonna charge you $250 (US) per night to stay at my place. Hey, Boulder is expensive, and my place is totally ritzy.

funny story, on monday my brother actually had a huntsmen spider about the size of his hand jump on his face while he was doing 100 km/h (60 m/h) in his car on the way home.
Spun out but ended up alright, no major damage but it looks like he needs a wheel alignment and some new tires.

Trying to get a large scale map of america at the moment, what i'm looking at is putting down all the places i want to see, people, landmarks ect and from that trying to work out some sort of time table and a budget.
Gunna go all mad scientist with a marker on the map :P
Basically all the people that are willing to meet me Send me an e-mail with your details on where you want to meet me and if you will let me crash on your couch, so i can add you to the map :)
Cheers zilla

I'm always in Calgary if you get near here and want to check out the Rockies or some of the National parks nearby.
Could go off-roading, and then you too, could experience the awesome driving skills that I posses! *reference to rossmum visit*

Hey Bod, I suggest you start organizing any data that people give you as soon as you get it.
Excel is useful here haha.
