As if Marcus Fenix didn't already look gay enough...

Hopefully it won't suck as much as Gears of War 2.

What a shit trailer.

I liked GoW2 btw, never played GoW1 and I hated the Halo2 style ending -_-
Also what the fuck is with the blonde chick, I don't want her to dilute the raging hard-ons all the characters must have. :maddowns:

wow, this trailer kind of implies that the humans will lose. That would be a different ending from most games, the good guys, despite having the right morals, can't defeat an endless horde.

I think its Anya - revealed at the end of GOW2 to basically be Marcus' girlfriend or something... looks like her anyway.

I would love it to be a really dark and depressing ending... maybe that just me tho... everything follows such an upbeat happy tone, i also want Halo Reach to take a similar tone.

Cliffyb's twitter confirmed the blonde is indeed Anya, and that there will be 4 player story integrated co-op.

Womenz? In my COG infantry? It's more likely than you think.

That trailer was basically Starship Troopers: Locust Horde, with some Flood mixed in for good measure.

I think the point is that its somewhat of a "last stand" using all of the resources they've got. Gears has always had a theme of desperation and this trailer follows suit. The music fits perfectly, similar to the original "Mad World" trailer.

That was the highpoint of the game's story for me, the way Marcus was all "ANYA, ANYA COME IN, ANYAAAAAA" and then she shows up and his face is literally :|

He obviously really cared

I'd be quite happy for a HUMANS DIE LOL, SORRY ending for Gears, seems like it'd be rather fitting.
Not like that shitty H3 ending of DERP THE MC LIVES!

I like the idea of how they are all older, makes it feel like its been too long. Also I love hearing the idea of us humans losing. That would be great

btw whats up with with all the people being frozen? what happened now?

Gears isn't a trilogy. Don't expect any kind of satisfying or definitive ending. I'm sure they'll just string us along with cop-out endings like they've been doing.

I'm ambivalent toward the series. I kind of like the core combat, but after a while it feels like a grind. But to relieve you of that grind, they throw in every kind of bullshit gameplay alternative imaginable and I hate that. I let out a deep sigh when I heard the rumors of mech suits.

I kind of always got the impression what humans would rebound and strike back because of gow2's ending and what happened to the locust there. Guess I was wrong.

Mass
April 13th, 2010, 09:39 PM
I would imagine that if it were to end in the humans being killed, then right at the end Marcus Fenix would detonate a special 8-ton Hyper Density Lightmass Bomb shaped like a giant hand presenting its middle finger to the Locust horde as it is meticulously dropped directly into the Inner Sanctum via double-rotored helicopter outfitted with a 50 foot chrome drill as swarms of locust are shot in the face with shotgun shells as they climb all over said drill until finally marcus detonates the bomb with his 12-inch cock and an explosion literally destroys the entire planet.

I love the mechanics of these games and multiplayer is great, but the story is convoluted and trite, and for enemies and encounters they just pile more and more bullshit on, they're always adding new stuff without finishing anything they introduced previously.

I got bored about half way through Gears 2.

Then it deleted my gamesaves and I gave up. The campaign is too long and has almost no story, while the gameplay is just , cover-shoot-cover-shoot-change cover-repeat. The story of all 3 games should have been 1 game. That would have been better.

I think I only played Gears 2 for completion and horde mode. Horde mode was awesome. Of course, nothing that I think will matter in the end, not just because nobody reads this site, but because there won't be a PC version thanks to their completely illogical fear of pirates who would support their games as quickly as they did UT3/UDK.

I mean, how fucked up is that? They spend 90% of their time praising the work of PC modders, but they can't even be bothered to make all their games on the PC? What the fuck? Either like the PC and make your games for it, or admit you're a sellout console developer now. UDK isn't going to fool us.

At least Valve knows their place in the industry.

Gears of War 2 would be terrible on PC. Gears has almost no modding possibilities (custom MP maps are redundant, all gears maps play the same) and making SP maps would be just as repetitive. Custom weapons and what not would be hard to implement and would probably end up terrible as well.

And to top that off any total conversion mod would be better suited for UDK or UE3 since those engines start with a less complex and much less buggy basis for a game/mod.

In short. Not that good a game. No modding potential. No buy.

Would it be that bad to at least try? I mean, all people would need are the GoW assets, and I'd bet anything that someone would be able to make a better game out of it.

Looking forward to this, simply for the end of the story, and I agree that I think it should be a dark and doomed ending. I can just see it ending poorly and that eerie female voice over character will come on and give us a deep emotional reasoning on why there can't ever be peace in the world which will relate back to our current economy and social culture and make us all think of how we live our lives...

...or maybe not and we'll just blow shit up and rock headshots that make heads EXPLODE in horde...yeah, likely.

*shrugs* Fine.

While I certainly wouldn't call the characters deep, I enjoy the storyline a lot. The plot is original, the motivation of the enemy is intriguing, and the characters (while stereotypes) are charmingly meat-headed. Add to that the absolute best 3rd person shooter gameplay I've ever seen, a phenomenal sound mix, competent (occasionally outstanding) voice acting and an addictive multiplayer and I'm sold.

Also, the level design and graphics are fucking amazing.

I don't always need to my shooters to be deep and thought provoking, sometimes I just want to have fun. Gears of War delivers on that in spades.

I remember I kept going to shoot the Maui guy in the first game because he looked like the locus when I was in twich-shoot mode. :v:

The whole game is meant to play like a story-cobbled-together-in-2-weeks-to-make-more-time-for-post-production-special-affects summer action movie and it does so magnificently. You don't play GoW for ground breaking gameplay, you play it for a simple system that works well to turn your brain off for an hour or five.

It's fun, I enjoyed it, it's not for everyone's tastes but it's one of the best lowest-common-denominator game I've played. (obviously it's not H1 but :p)

Have you played Brute Force or Star Wars: Battlefront (I or II)? Those were infinitely less glitchy and infuriating. I can't stand Gears sometimes because I just want to sprint and it makes me stick to the nearest cover instead, thereby getting me killed in humiliating ways.

That being said, I do enjoy Gears overall. It's a competent game with an intriguing if underdeveloped plot.

Star Wars Battlefront (I or II), not glitchy?

Warsaw
April 14th, 2010, 05:32 PM
I didn't say the whole game wasn't glitchy. I mean the third-person shooter mechanic itself was more solid than Gears. At least, I've had less problems with it than I've had with Gears...

I hate gears, tbh. I like epics games and I like epic, but Gears just seems so shit to me. I think it's the guns. They don't feel strong, just shooting mario fireballs at everything.

Warsaw
April 14th, 2010, 07:54 PM
I dunno, I think they feel strong. It's just that the Locust have some really tough hides, and I get satisfaction when I kill one by dumping an entire magazine of red-hot iron bolts into his ass.

Atty

I repeat: no end in sight.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3178794Pretty sure it says simply an end to the story of the first two titles, somewhat like Halo 1/2/3. I bet they'll do Gears of War prequel ala Halo: Reach which goes on about the human on human war before the Locust decided to show up and wreck bitches.

I'd like to know what happened to Earth, assuming it's not set in a universe where Earth doesn't exist.

n00b1n8R
April 15th, 2010, 01:48 AM
I think leaving any mention of earth out would be for the best. It's an intersting question that has nothing to do with the story of the games so just leave it at that.

I hate gears, tbh. I like epics games and I like epic, but Gears just seems so shit to me. I think it's the guns. They don't feel strong, just shooting mario fireballs at everything.
Did you ever play mario? Those things 1sk'd everything.

The whole game wasn't built around that mechanic but. It didn't require the level of complexity gears did. On the whole the BF games were pretty buggy too.

And that said, I never had much hassle with the game confusing which cover I wanted. Once I got the hang of things (certainly by mid-game) it was almost a non-issue.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first one- I mean, I liked it, but I felt it got repetitive. However, I really liked the second one. *shrug* I'll be interested to see how this one plays out.

I really really, did not like GoW 2 at all. Not sure why, I liked the campaign, it was fun, but the multiplayer I could not get into at all. GoW1 however, I found to be enjoyable on all parts of the game and easily one of my favorite shooters.
