Religion causes more problems than it's worth in this day and age, that said I'm an Agnostic and if someone presents me with verifiable PROOF that some type of holy power exists, I'll believe it when I see it. I also understand why people practice religion and I have nothing against people that do, but like I said, it's just trouble.
Religion based discussions don't go down well online either.....

Religion != idiocy. This does not fall under true religion. It falls under true idiocy.
"We're commanded to terrorize the disbelievers." Yeah whatever go jump off a cliff mohammed meatbag freak. itt I like real christians more than "real" (note not true) muslims.
Edit:
Muslims consider any physical representation of their prophet to be blasphemous.
If anything this type of intoleration of what others do causes more people to blaspheme, not bring them to "see the light". Stupid freaks. :v:

It's more so extremism than idiocy. If you're wanting to call them idiots then I can, or anyone else can, call you an idiot under the same premise.
They feel that they should be able to defend their god's name and likelness. They're giving fair warning about their stance. It would be just like the US telling N. Korea to "knock that shit off" with their nuclear missles.
The middle east is an entirely different culture. Violence and violent acts are treated totally differently coming from there than compared to over here. What's 'idiocy' is not taking into consideration of their view of their culture and their religion. It's extreme to us, but to their specific branch of Muslim, it's just another day in the neighborhood. It may not jive to our culture and legal system over here but they haven't had hundreds of years of the freedoms that we've had. They've had the exact opposite of our culture and it's all they know. Maybe in a few generations when our kids have had time to grow together, realize the past mistakes and differences things will change, but today is today. You can't change it until tomorrow.

This sort of resembles that thing last year of a tutor being threatened after school kids named their class mascot Muhammad.
What i find interesting is they'l scream for blood if someone dares make a physical representation of Muhammad but there are many people whose entire name is Muhammad Muhammad, which really doesn't make much sense to me.

When an outside culture defaces their god, I think they view it differently than when someone in their culture names a newborn after a god they worship. Just like other people in the world naming their kid after someone they hold in high regard (ie an actor, national hero, etc). Really it all boils down to the mass public display that they put on and how it depicts their god.

I'm pretty sure they don't have a problem blaspheming other people's gods.
In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that's one of the reasons they're trying to kill everyone...other gods.
@Korn:
Relativism is fine for trying to understand other people but it's pretty bad at taking action. In this case it's akin to the new age parent who thinks their child is "just expressing himself" when he kills the neighbor's dog. The argument that they are a violent culture and that violence is more normal to them than us only reasserts how fucked up and dangerous they are to the rest of the world.

Can't argue there. Yeah, I don't think that it's an excuse for them to be violent, but it isn't just because they want to be violent either; it's the culture and life that they know. With the rate of communication and information sharing and access, their old ideas and ways are only bound to die out over the coming generations. Sadly, like deep space travel, just probably not in our lifetime.
Wasn't too long ago we were lynching "witches". However, we finally grew up and learned how wrong this was.

What I find odd about that culture, and it may just be the media's fault, is this: Something like 90% of the middle east is urban culture with a high degree of affluence and technology but all we see is the fundamentalist hate and jihad, which probably represents far less than the remaining 10%. In the US we have our fair share of zealots but we make a pretty good effort to distance ourselves from that view in our culture and media. So why not theirs? If we can reject that mindset in our culture why don't they openly reject those that are still stuck in "2000 years ago - literally"?

I stand with south park on this one.
Look it's our culture and our rules so if they want to live with us they need to learn and accept cultures different from their own.
For example, you do not bring drugs into asia, unless you want 25 years or the death penalty. Acknowledge that and respect it.
We are a democratic country that holds free speech to be incredibly important, if they cant understand that then they can fuck right off.

Yet again, some stupid people say something on a website, and the entire world takes notice.
I guarantee you there are plenty of sites saying the same thing about the depiction of moses, and the depiction of jesus/santa whatever but they don't get air time. Probably even saying much much worse. Far as I know that quote isn't actually a death threat, more than it is a warning of a death threat.
This is just a massive beat up and another tool for the media to start ragging on Islam so they can justify their holy war. Religion is fucked, but picking on one creates a bullshit effect. No one seems to be taking any notice at all at of what Israel is doing. But then, why would they. Everyone knows 80 percent or more of hollywood/film television are jewish. Just Q&A Mel Gibson on his current career.
Media has once again done it's bit for world peace by marginalizing one facet of the world. A facet we just so happen to be trying to exterminate, culturally and geographically at the same time.
Extremism is in all religions, not just this one. People get jollied up over this shit, while the popes minions are fucking children, and covering it up in plain sight. The whole world knows, but where is the churches head?
However, me saying religion is bullshit is wrong. Buddhism is one religion worth keeping in my opinion.

They realize that this is EXACTLY what Parker and Stone wanted, right? If you watch the episode, this is exactly what it is about. Southpark (meaning the city in the show, meaning the show irl) getting threats from "radical muslim groups."
Proves how stupid and irrational they are. I don't care how sacred something is, but threatening someone over something so trivial is complete idiocy and I'm not exactly sure how it isn't illegal, although I'm sure it is.

To Islamics, perhaps. Jesus, Moses, God Himself have all been depicted in the past, and they represent very important parts of several religious histories. I think it all comes down to tolerance.
They realize that this is EXACTLY what Parker and Stone wanted, right?
Even if it was their intention to spur trouble and publicity, I can't imagine they wanted real death threats made. They definitely underestimated the outcome.
