Here is an image of my desktop. Notice that AIM is visible in the taskbar but is not open on my screen. Why is this? Does anyone know how to fix this? If I cannot find a way out of it I will uninstall aim and never look back. I did it with MSN. I am not afraid.

Oh I know. open the AIM menu and click "Exit AIM".
Clicking the "X" just minimizes it to the taskbar.
Alternatively, click the little arrow in the area next to your clock, and right click the AIM icon and click "Exit AIM"

The goal here is not to close aim. I want to be able to message people without having a task Icon constantly present letting me know that I can. Like aim 6 used to do.

This happens with photoshop all the time.
Open up your taskmanager and click on applications.
Find AIM
Click it

switch to pidgin dude. aim, icq, xfire, msn, yahoo. all in one. and surprisingly manageable.

does pidgin allow file-sending? thats the lone reason I even have aim installed rather than just get it through xfire

Yes, Pidgin allows sending and receiving files.

For pidgin:
http://www.pidgin.im/download/

For xfire plugin:
http://gfireproject.org/

Been using both seamlessly for about a year and a half now. It works pretty damn well.

My AIM account isnt working on it, but xfire and msn runs smoothly. This negates the entire purpose of me downloading it! FFFF

none, it simply unchecks in the account listing immediately

Bitch plz. Trillian Astra.

Though Pidgin is pretty good too. Just lacks some of the features MSN comes with.

The only client I still need other than trillian is xfire. Trillian doesn't work ingame/take videos and pics. So yeah. oh, and steam

Trillian is amazing, all it's missing is steam chat.

I forgot to say, I use MSN because Trillian is incompatible when receiving handwritten messages from MSN clients. At least, last time I checked.
