So after years of reliable service and playtime my 360 finally killed itself. I just recieved the E74 message on my console...and guess who's warranty is expired! :iamafag:

Easy, open it up, get some tinfoil to cover everything except the h/ana chip, and use a heatgun on high for 5 minutes.
worked for me
:)
good luck!

Don't do this please, heat gunning it is retarded. Try the Xclamp fix, I used lawldogs method

The X-clamp fix doesn't really effect the h/ana chip's problems, which is the cause of e74.

Stick it in an oversized microwave on the popcorn setting. :iamafag:

I'm not doing anything myself. I'm the person bullshit happens to, so I'm not going to risk anything.

Well if the 360 is really dead then you have nothing to lose by trying it yourself... after all if it works, great, you have your system back. If not.... well it was broke to begin with... right?

But what if it fixes itself while lying on the floor?

But yeah, in all seriousness, you've got nothing to lose dude.

Uhh If he messes up and doesn't fix it then he's going to have to pay an additional $100 when/if he sends in back to Microsoft.

I've fixed 3 xboxs by re flowing the processor in my oven. Never attempted to fix the Hana chip though.

He says his warranty is over, which probably means that he already called them, at least I would think so.

If you didn't at least try to call them yet, I'd suggest that. In plus, aren't 360's at around 150$ these days?

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an Out of Warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the E74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. Customers can choose to receive either a refund to their credit card or a check refund. Checks should be received no later than the end of July. If you have any question regarding refund status, contact Xbox Customer Support at: http://www.xbox.com/support/contact (http://www.xbox.com/support/contact) .

So I won't be charged when I send it to microsoft?

it would appear not. you should just call them and ask though. you have to call tech support to send it in for repairs anyway, so you might as well ask then.

What I gather is that you pay up front, but then get a refund eventually. I've never sent one in myself though, so I don't know whether it really goes down like that.

The goon squad will be minus one member until the clouds split and a shiny new refurbished green 360 is launched from the heavens into my room.

Or alternatively, from the miraculous bowels of Urdnot Wrex.

iirc even if your warranty is out (like mine was) they will still do it once for you for free.
