Anyone have one of the newer, more recently manufactured 360s?
I have one of the original Elites that released and this thing seems to be getting louder and louder, hotter and hotter. I'm sitting here watching Netflix and the TV sound and my typing are both being drowned out completely by the sound of the thing whirring away. It is annoying.
If you've got one, how bad is the noise on them?
I'm considering killing this thing and using my best buy extended warranty. Half the time my DVD drive doesn't work so its not like I'm giving up a perfectly good Xbox.

Mine is fairly quiet and it's two years old.

Mines is only a couple months old.
It's fairly quiet. It's almost silent if I install the game to my hard drive.

Oh right, all my games run off the HDD, the disk drives are loud regardless iirc.

When a game is installed to the HDD, the disks stop spinning, making it quieter.

I'm not running the disk drive, ever really, since all I've been playing since MW:2 came out is MW:2 which is on the hard drive and Reach which was a download, never used the ODST disc. All movies I watch on it are off Netflix.

Xbox's tend to run hotter as they get older. I'm not sure exactly why but my guess is the heat sync paste starts to lose it's potency or something.

That along with all the dust collected over time.

I have the original Elite, and I've noticed that it makes quite a bit of noise while its off and plugged in, though I'm not sure if thats normal or not, I've only just noticed it. It definitely freezes way more often now, its about two years old, but I haven't noticed anything while playing noise-wise.
