I thought this was just too epic to go unnoticed here.
Be warned, the pictures shown will kill any 56k dial up connection.

You need to register to view the pics.

And they're absolutely gorgeous. I wonder what's the performance when you play the game...

Looks like some of the stuff from the Aion 3.0 trailer. (considering aion is running on the cryengine)

pretty stuff

edit:
on closer examination his textures are all pretty bad. its mostly photos pasted on geometry. it's the engine which makes it look pretty.

The concept and originality makes up for it though.

Doesnt matter how amazing someones texture is, lighting makes or breaks a scene and he has cracked it.

ofcourse it matters.

you cant just rely on an engine to make things look pretty when you're only doing a half job on your textures.
if the aim is only to create pretty pictures (like it was in this case) it's alright, and can be excused (like inferno said), but if you were to make an actual game environment, it's a definite no-no.

If you can fake it, why not? If its just for the overall composition, not quality of individual models/textures.

if it looks good and it isn't someone else's work i don't care how they got it to look that way. this looks great, although i'm sure that like with anything else, closer inspection will break the illusion. photosourced or not the textures look fine at the resolution he took the pictures. i guess if it were in game and it looked bad then it would matter, but we can't really tell for certain from the pictures and he hasn't released the map (to my knowledge) for us to fumble around in.

Well, in the case that this was used in game you would see much more close up views of textures and from multiple angles so the quality would need to be as close to perfect as possible. But for what he is using it for it's just fine.
