Ok so I was playing Modern Warfare 2 online last night on my Xbox 360 just fine. About 6 hours ago I play my xbox again but now the disc drive is making loud noises along with a low sounding tapping sound and it scratched the hell out of my clean discs (WTF) and it just says Open Tray.

Now about an hour ago I put in a game that I don't care about and close the tray, now it just makes the tapping sound and it gives me the open tray crap. I can hear the disc trying to actually read unlike the normal open tray error, but it makes that tapping noise and reads at the same time, and then when thats done the sound gets lower and it sounds like it then fails (that sound is a one second wrrrrrrr sound) trying to read it then it says open tray.

Yes, I previously have had the normal open tray error about 3 or 4 times so far, but it was nothing like this, and I solved those open tray errors by following answers on YouTube and on Yahoo answers. I tried those solutions with this but none worked. Has anybody ever had or even heard of this problem? If I need to repair Microsoft's fail for $100 (minus 1 cent, woohoo :iamafag:), I'm just gonna buy MW2 PC...

I do not want to open up and look inside my xbox because if nothing works I'll save up some money (being almost poor for a year is fun, you should try it:lie:) and repair it...

this is my video of my problem. i fixed it by just buying a new DVD drive and switching the circuit boards (alot easier than it sounds). its a little difficult to hear the noise, but is this the noise your thing is making?

Ftfy, and its sort of like that, the disc sounds like its reading like it usually does (a little and slow) but along with a soft tapping sound and then at the end when it is about to just give up it makes that noise in the video. And yeah, I was playing MW2 for awhile yesterday too and today I'm getting this problem. So, I assume replace my DVD drive? If I do have to do that, what DVD drive model or company are you using that you replaced the old one with?

When replacing it, replace it with the same model as the one you are using.

Happened to the xbox I bought. Fixed it by opening up the dvd drive, cleaning the lens, bending 2 little gold screws in the back of the cd drive, and moving it back and forth (it was making weird sounds). Now it seems to work fine.

This, It worked on every xbox I had with this problem, just adjust the screws a bit, I think there's a full tutorial on it on youtube ;)

if youre going to buy a new DVD drive, youll want to, as pyong said, make sure you are getting the exact same kind (or as close as possible) of DVD drive. DEFINITELY HAS TO BE the same manufacturer. mine was a hitachi, so i got another hitachi. on mine, the model number was only off by one letter at the end, and it doesnt seem to have made a difference.

also dont do what i did in that video. i figured out that you need the top part of the DVD drive cover (part with the wheel thing in it) on the DVD drive, or the game wont spin correctly.
