Just so you know, that's like, Australia's official news site, by defacto. It's not government funded, that I know of, but everyone goes to it. I'm vrery surprised this is even on the site. Usually it's stock market shit and celebrity/fashion shit.
Read the article.
"THE New South Wales Government is quietly compiling a mathematical map of almost every adult's face, sharing information that allows law enforcement to track people by CCTV. "
Also, all kindergarten kids in Australia get their fingerprints taken on a special "fingerpainting expedition at the police station".
Me and Bodie have both done this, and I remember because the polcie station was right across the road from the school. We got "special fridge magnets, pencil cases, and we got to fingerpaint".
I'm not sure if he remembers or not though. It was a long time ago.
Now I need to pull up my IM's from a year ago from people who said this was complete bullshit.
Also, this video from Cog (australian band) is even now more appropriate.

No. Since cameron became PM, he's done some pretty kick ass stuff to knock down that police state mentality. He nixed the national ID card, DNA database, and is basically pissing on the CCTV systems.

Well, those are good for criminals, but you should have to be arrested first, before you DNA, finger/palm prints, mug shot are all put into national databases. England has been pretty bad, but its good to hear they are lightening up.

All I needed to see was that pyramid with the eye and I knew it was a Dane thread ;p
Related to the subject, I'm not sure this is completely bad. It can help stop crime just like fingerprints can. Prove me wrong, Australia.. you have before when I thought it couldn't get worse.

I've never had my finger prints, DNA or hand prints taken in my life nor has anyone else that I know of, so what the fuck are you even talking about?
The finger print and DNA samples are only held if you have been arrested and charged, the nanny state over here is no where as bad as over in AU.
@rossmum, there's more chance of the gun laws being even tighter now after the shooting yesterday, so tia.

I figured. Fuck that guy and fuck kneejerk reaction bans.
Also, I don't recall ever being fingerprinted; even if I had been as a kid, I'm pretty sure that's totally inadmissable as evidence in court. Even rock-solid proof you did something counts for sweet fuck all if it's been obtained through improper channels.

Basicly this.
Paladin You really don't know much on this subject do you, Australia is much tighter of a nanny state than England.

Alot of countries take fingerprints and pictures of people. It doesnt mean its a conspiracy. :tinfoil:
I mean, my photo and fingerprints have been in a database since I was like 5, and now they have another set because of me joining the Army. It is no big deal. Besides tracking EVERYONE via CCTV would be very expensive and resource intensive. That and if you do nothing wrong why would you even care?

Do they fingerprint you guys for fucking everything there? I've been in the Army for a year next week, still no fingerprints and the only photo is in the Pl Comd's notebook

Shit dude, on my contract they have a photo of me, my finger prints, and my officer who swore me in. You get finger printed for everything it seems... but no bigger. Like I said, if you don't do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.
