Yes, oh god yes, the biggest tournament of the biggest sport in the world kicks off tomorrow, it what maybe the most watched tournament ever.

The last world cup had a combined 26 billion viewers (counting viewers each game).

I'm totally pumped, the streets are decked out in the good old Saint Georges flag here, every one is in a party mood :D

For England, first game is against USA on 12th, what a cracker it will be.

Obviously my first team is England, second and third are a split between Holland and Spain, Spain are looking very menacing and could do it this year, then again this is Englands best chance!

If we go out on penalties, again I will go ape shit.

"Managed to pull it together" what are you rabbiting on about. Americas goal was a calamity goal, keeper howler that should not have happened. We were all over you guys, offside decision near the end was bullshit, Crouch was 2 yards on side.

America does have a good team, 7 of the 11 men on the field play in the worlds best league, which does say alot and means they have good skill.

Englands goal though, superb.

Outrage is occuring in English pubs though, the HD version of the broadcast cut into a advert break by accident during the 3rd minute, England scored in the 4th, and everyone watching HD feed missed it.

What a shamballs.

E: Just saw the USA disallowed goal, awful decision, was 100% a goal. No offside, ref was miles away from the play, he had a clear view, blew the whistle before ball was kicked in the net yet for no reason.

Sorry guys, you were robbed the victory.

That said, amazing first goal by Solvenia.

E2: Haha FIFA are in the shits, a fan managed to get into the England dressing room after fulltime whistle, managed to get past all the security. Prince Harry and Prince William went to the dressing rooms after match too, luckily they had left just before the breach.

It was a red card, he did it twice, it was unnecessary roughness that you just cannot do in that position.

Chile goal the player was onside, yes it was close but you should always give the advantage to the attacking team.

Portugal, well fantastic display of football, although I completely despise the team, the players are tremendous and at the game it was just a practice match with shooting on sight :D

Everything here will be grinding to a halt to watch the match, cinemas are showing it live on the big screen, schools are closing early, businesses are bringing tvs in or letting people go home early.

Englands starting line up looks great, love the fan Defoe is starting, he'll help inject alot of pace up front and help Rooney out, was hoping Joe Cole could play on the wing but hes on the bench, perhaps 60 minutes and he'll jump in the mix.

jcap
June 23rd, 2010, 10:58 AM
There's literally no reason in hell that they can't add video review challenges to this sport.

The game would generally remain unchanged. The only difference would be that each team would be allowed TWO challenges per game. If you want to dispute a call (goal, penalty, etc.), you can use one of those challenges. The call would then be reviewed by a panel and decided whether it will stand or not. If the challenge was good, then you get one challenge back and the correction.

This would add minimal delay to the game, since you would have a limited number of challenges you could use, so you would want to use them only when you strongly believe you are right. You would get rewarded for being right when the original call was wrong.

Plus it would preserve whatever shred of integrity is left in this sport.

CN3089
June 23rd, 2010, 11:00 AM
no just do it like hockey, reviews of disputed goals only

gridiron-style reviewing wouldn't really work, the game isn't paced like that

Jcap, it is a fast paced sport, hence why referees sometimes "play-on" when theres a foul, we do not like the flow of the game to be stopped. That is why video reviewing isnt in the sport.

Europa league, brought in 2 extra linesmen to stand next to the goal, they look if the ball crosses the line, and help aid the offside calls. The biggest problem in the game isnt offside calls, its whether the ball has crossed the line.

FIFA had the chance to incorporate goal line technology and the extra lino yet they declined, FIFA is just a bunch of suits. They also hate the English.

Cmon GHANA!

jcap
June 23rd, 2010, 12:41 PM
And that's why I said it should be limited to two per team per game. If you abuse your challenges, you lose your . You can't even say that every trivial "bad" call will be challenged, because it's a very risky move. If you think you see something, you really can't be totally confident of it until the replay is shown. If the replay goes and it turns out you were wrong and the ref was originally correct, you just blew a call on something trivial.

So that's the motivation to use it for only life and death calls. For instance, if a player gets a red card, or if they get a yellow card due to a handball off the face, or if a goal is disallowed for bullshit reasons.

Also seriously fuck FIFA.

Limited
June 23rd, 2010, 02:10 PM
So who is the person that decides to challenge? Striker? Captin? Manager? I do agree o wish decisions could be revoked, such as bullshit red cards that later can been seen by replays as fair challenges, but they can't take them away because the ref did see it, just saw it wrong.

Germany should just have had a player sent off, defender saved the ball off the line with his hand, should have been penalty and sending off. Cheated. Still cmon Ghana.

shitty ref is part of the game. adapt. look at Germany vs Serbia. They had a card-happy ref. Did they tone their challenges down? No. Thats why there were 9 yellows and 1 red. The ref is part of the game. If they make a bad call you can either throw a fit or do something about it.

News flash, there is a 4th official, hence the center's head set.

Limited
June 25th, 2010, 04:16 AM
4th official has no involvement in decision making, he is there to talk to the managers explain decisions and hear feedback, he has the power to advice the manager to send players on the bench and the manager off.

Brazil Portugal game is today, still undecided who I want to win, portugal are masters at diving, brazil are masters at long shots.

Yes, but the center official can conference with the 4th on difficult calls, just like the line officials. Even this, challenging the center official's call is completely necessary.

What a feeling eh? I remember going mad like that, for 2 teams I dont really support, Barca vs Chelsea (my rivals) in Champions League semis, when Ineista scored a cracker in last minute to put them to final my god my housemate and I went wild. It was 1 - 0 chelsea, but the goal meant it was 1 -1 but barca went through on away goal.

They might of actually been good enough to win. Hopefully they'l be inspired by the thrashing they just got and dedicate their time to being fuckin good at what they're paid rediculous amounts of money to do. Fuck... watching a german player with ball possession trick his way out of being tackled by 3 England players was awe inspiring to watch, but to then maintain ball possession and run like a fuckin stallion against the english defense with 100% ball control cross the ball and score was mind blowing. He was inactive, it was not offside.

Ref did a fantastic job, he was the best ref of the whole tournament. To me the challenge the dutch guy made in first half (was on edge of penalty box) should have been a straight red. Holland penalty? Firstly it was outside the area.

Yes it was a corner, no idea why he gave it a goal kick.

First half was poor, second half wasnt too bad, would have loved to see more goals but the best football was played in extra time. Holland just couldnt get a grip on the game, Kuyt, Van Persie, Sneijder played awful.

Casillas was a rock at the back, he had a fantastic tournament, he should get Golden Glove.

You can hardly feel cheated, Von Bommel and De Jong should have both been sent off in the first half. Robben should have had two yellow cards before the goal was scored, even Cryuff said so.

It was a rather scrappy game, people diving over all the time, both teams are as bad as each other.

SnaFuBAR
July 12th, 2010, 02:42 PM
rated disagree. spaniards (and any spanish speaking team for that matter) has a horrible diving habit and do everything possible to cheat when threatened with a loss. that grapple in the box should have been carded and a penalty kick awarded, which may (or may not) have ended up with a 1-0 score putting holland up, and overtime wouldn't have even happened.

the game was officiated horribly.

Your right Snaf, Argentinians, Spanish and the Portuguese do it. I feel if Robben had fallen over in the box, it would have been given, thing is he was moral and stood his ground to try and get in and shoot.

Ronaldo (Portuguese one) got Rooney sent off on purpose in the Euros, bastard winked to the camera after too.
