Design a Halo 3 Emblem!

David Candland, our UI artiste extraordinaire, asked, “Wouldn’t it be fun to have a Bnet reader design an emblem and include it in the shipping game?” Well wouldn’t it? Of course it would. So we’re going to give one lucky Bnet reader the chance to design an emblem to be emblazoned forever in Halo 3. Below is a template of a typical emblem. The rules are simple:

1. Your emblem must consist of only two colors.
2. Your emblem must be able be identified if the secondary portion is toggled off. See below for examples.
3. Your emblem must look good when it’s tiny.
4. Your emblem must be original art. Do NOT copy anything. All entries that look remotely like other logos or corporate images will be ejected. Same goes for National flags.
5. Nothing offensive. Nothing rude, racist, -secks-ual!- or otherwise stupid in nature.

Remember, we’re looking for something cool and original. Maybe your Halo clan has a cool original logo, but this will be used by folks outside of your clan too, so don’t send us something you don’t want others to use. And obvious as this sounds – don’t send us one you made in Halo 2 please. We have those already…

The winner will have their emblem design featured in Halo 3, and we will pick the winner based on purely aesthetic considerations. We will pick the one we deem best suited to appear in the game and if we don’t get one we like, we won’t use one.

Make sure that your examples are 128x128 pixels and in either gif or Jpeg format. Don’t worry if you’re not an artist – we will redraw the winning image anyway, so if it’s not pixel-perfect don’t sweat it.

Send jpegs or gifs, with file sizes NOT to exceed 128k to:

And if you’re not au fait with Photoshop, Paint or whatever, then simply draw your entry on a piece of paper and send it to:

Pretty neat. You could get your emblem design put into the game! I'd suggest making this the official thread for discussion and sharing of ideas.

It's a Walrus! The octagon is the secondary colour addition!

And I've decided that since there are a lot of people who aren't artistically inclined, that if anyone wants an emblem made, just PM me with a scan or a basic idea of what it'll be. Making these are fun!

How exactly do you submit your entry? I've seen two different ways on two different pages: "Go to Bungie.net and follow the directions to register and submit you entry" and "Send jpegs or gifs, with file sizes NOT to exceed 128k to: 7themes@bungie.com".

I think they have a rule against using an already made logo or corporate image. Did you recreate it, or just do some photoshopping?

wow, I just submitted something JUST like that. The arrows on the inside of mine didn't look as cool as that, I'm sure they'll pick yours over mine. It's supposed to be an activating Halo. I also submitted another, an eye, with lashes so the girls can add their own touch.

Lol, you can see how easily I made the alternate one, but yeah, I thought it was cool so I'll let you guys decide wich is better :D I've been designing the freaking thing all day, well, coupled with doing this (http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/2489/retinaredbaserenderis6.jpg) of course :P Even if Bungie don't want them, I'm going to use them anyway for red and blue symbols in my map :P

well, i can see why bungie wouldn't want any australians to design one, because it would be obnoxious to have to edit all those images to turn them upright. =P

but really that's a bummer, but i guess for the simplicity of legality, ya know? i hate legal bs.

anyway, i dug up some way ancient pre-history sketches i did in high school:

they were supposed to be jedi-style symbols- lol, you can see the jedi academy logo in there i think. but yeah, i think with some tweaking they'd make some good forerunner stuff, but i think they may be too complex for a simple emblem.

It's the same layout as a generic halo 2 icon, "Skull and Crossbones style" just with OMG LOLHARD pirate head with swords. It probably took the person about 5 minutes to make, and about 3 seconds to come up with. I certainly won't be using it. A ninja one, maybe...
