I adored SC1 when I was younger, but I sucked royally at it. So SCII is like nostalgia on crack, regardless of my skill level. I preordered it, and it'll get here while I'm at work tomorrow. 5pm through midnight tomorrow= Starcraft time.

I'll be getting it off Battle.net digitally. While I happen not to be Korean and therefore probably won't touch online play with people I don't know (and probably not even with people I do know), I should have a lot of fun with it; I've been playing through the original SC+Brood War and have almost made it all the way through again, so I know I can at least get somewhere.

Where would you possibly be lanning that doesn't have any kind of internet connection? It's P2P once you're connected, just like MW2...
regional locking :S??!?!??!
Oh well, hardly effects me and most of their player base tbh.
Also, bought this for the single player more than the multiplayer since I'm not dedicated enough to StarCraft to actually get good at the multiplayer!

My house. Has satellite internet. AKA extremely laggy, if fast. Believe it or not, there is a percentage of the population that prefers LAN because of the no lag. Ah well. I'm sure someone will hack LAN into it soon enough. :downs:

You guys don't get it, if you're playing a LAN game you just need internet access for matching... Once you're connected it's P2P and you won't experience any gameplay lag unless your LAN sucks. You only need the most basic of internet connections to play LAN games, I agree that it should have a LAN mode though.
I'm having problems with my single player cutscenes, they lag like mad when I'm anywhere on the Battlecruiser. They were fine when I was back on the bar, and gameplay is unaffected... Running the 197.45 drivers because the 257.21 drivers just crashed once I loaded a map.

I've been playing Starcraft 1+Broodwar recently, and really I can only beat about the first 3/4 of all the missions per race fairly (well, later levels I use black sheep wall to clear all the fog and let me know if they're going to swarm me with some attack or something).
Never was too good at using various units together, normally I just whored Marines+Medics/Hydralisks/Dragoons since they can shoot both ground and air. I've always loved the story to Starcraft though :D

Still annoying DRM-based crap though, but if the game is smart enough to Peer-to-Peer LAN that's not as bad.

Well, that's what a Blizzard rep said when the Fragapalooza staff voiced concern that hundreds of people trying to play SCII at a LAN may have issues. They also said if we run into problems they can configure something on their end when allows us to directly connect to each other or something without need for the master servers... Not sure how it works, they just told us they have functionality that caters to large LAN parties. Unfortunately I doubt you'd be able to call up Blizzard and get them to apply this for a little LAN with some friends.

Weird, my biggest problems seem to be driver related... Can't find one that works well.
197.45 - Fine in-game, the cutscenes that aren't pre-rendered lag like mad.
257.21 - Won't load maps in-game (screen goes black and only get audio after loading bars), same laggy cutscene issues.
258.96 - Best in-game performance, cutscenes are slightly less laggy, but there is texture tearing and such.

I have no issues running the game at all on Ultra, except for some extremely rare audio stuttering. Maybe twice a mission, if I'm running something else in the background. Also, the voice tutorials in the tutorial section are distorted- anyone else notice that? I thought it was a general sound issue, but the rest of the game seems to work fine.
And so far the campaign is :iamafag:

Is StarCraft 2 one of those games where you buy it in store, but then have to download it? I always find that extremely annoying, especially since I only have a 625Mb daily download limit due to having satellite internet at my parent's house...And I dunno, I didn't really enjoy the beta too too much since the game feels too outdated compared to many newer RTS games out there (such as Supreme Commander/Forged Alliance, which has many interesting features and modding capabilities).

Hit the buildings hard with Reapers. I did 4 groups of 5 bound to 1, 2, 3, 4 and just leveled four buildings at a time.
The less buildings they have, the less they spawn... and unless I'm crazy -- if you kill all the buildings in a given direction -- they don't come from that direction anymore.

I noticed this as well. Reapers are probably the fastest infantry unit in the game so use them to clear each sector one by one and as quickly as possible. It'll help make it seem less like they are swarming you from all sides. Hellions work great too, but they can't fly :P

If you're an experianced RTS player, (TA, SupCom, AOE, Star Craft etc) you should be able to work it out. You can use any battle.net account to connect once the game is installed I think. So, you should be fine letting your brother use it. Though I'm not really sure with all this activation bs. Tell you what, I'll try logging in with some old D2 mule bnet accounts and tell you what happens.
yep, you have to associate the game with the account, and that means new cd key. that is fucking WEAK. FUCK YOU ACTIVISION WTF. FUCK DRM. FUCK YOU BLIZZARD YOU FUCKING FAGGOT SELL OUTS. YOU DON'T EVEN EMPLOY THE ORIGINAL D2 CREATORS. THEY WENT AND STARTED BLIZZARD NORTH.

Just came out of three-day long seclusion, and I've finished the campaign. Was awesome.
I've never been particularly skilled when it comes to RTS games, and while I was able to power through the original game's campaign and expansion (as well as this one's) I couldn't touch the online play without getting my asshole filled with zerglings; I'm worried that will remain the case here. I'm betting I'll still get a lot of mileage out of replaying the campaign, though; I mostly leaned toward offensive research and vehicle upgrades, so I want to see what happens when I explore different areas of the tech tree.
