All I can say is wow.

So I've been following this game for a while now, it looks incredible, yes people will compare it to high hell with GTA, especially with LA Noire coming out,if it ever comes out, its been announced before GTA 4 was... I love Mafia stuff, done so many game design projects based off the Mafia/50s/detective stuff, it will be so much fun.

Basically, its a gangster style game, set in the 50s. Your play and some gangster guy and you do all the unusual gangster shenanigans.

Heres my predicament, do I get it on Xbox 360 (currently Red Ringing :(), or get it for PC?

PC Pros
Fairly confident I will be able to run it on max settings as I have a fairly beefy PC, so visuals will look great.
I will mod the crap out of it, try some memory hacking and all that jazz, it'll be my new Halo CE baby.
Cheaper, Xbox = £39.99, PC = £24.99

Xbox Pros
Achievements, no I'm not that shallow that I love my gamerscore, but achievements make me want to finish the game fully, PC games I get a bit bored of story and just run around doing nothing, end up playing around with the game code instead of finishing the game. I've had HL2 since it came out. I will hack my money and just go buy tons of stuff, whereas Xbox you have to work for it all.

Controls, I hate driving cars with my keyboard and mouse, then again the shooting with the mouse will be cool, then again if it has good aiming system, I will be happy with controller.

I read somewhere the PC version might be GFWL, I'm undecided if that is good or bad, but it might have achievements.

So yeah, recommendations people!

P.S, Demo his PS3, Xbox and PC on the 10th August

Are physX demanding on your PC? The recommended specs lists dedicated PhysX card to be able to get good performance.

I have an Ati HD5870 and a Nvidia gt220 which handles the dedicated physX (hybrid physX mod).
my Ati card (rendering the game maxed out, no AA/1XAF @ 1440 by 900) doesn't go over 60-70% load
and the Nvidia physX card doesn't go over 30-35 % load with physX set to high in the game.
However my framerates are not that great (25-50)! Seems that it could use some optimisation.

Edit:
Just ran without physX, I now get around 100 FPS all the time, physX needs optimising!

did some new benchmarks, new results. I think an average around 30 fps is still good with the amount of physX for my gt220, I still don't like that the gpu load on the physX card doesn't go too high, it's not using all the power the card has!

(images in order: settings/ no physX / medium physX / high physX)

That's bothering me, beele; I feel like a system with an i7, 5800 series and a dedicated PhysX GPU should do better than that... the high PhysX really kicks the crap out of the hardware, eh?

I'm definitely going to grab it on PC though; I ran both the PC demo and the PS3 demo... PC demo at max settings (1680x1050) ran 45FPS without PhysX and 16FPS with PhysX. The PS3 demo, on the other hand, is horrific. It looks like it's running a similar sub-HD resolution to that of GTA IV PS3 and even at that resolution feels like it's averaging 10FPS. Completely inexcusable; no reason why they wouldn't be able to optimize it better.

As for your decision, Limited? If all the Xbox has to offer is achievements and a controller, why not just ditch the achievements for better graphics and then use the 360 controller with your computer? And thanks for the hack; more time to screw around in the demo is appreciated!

Well, I've preordered the game for PC, it should arrive here on release day. The demo has been patched to prevent timer hack, they've added a number of checks to make sure timer has not been tampered with, making it an issue to fix the trainer, although I now have a few more functions to it.

The patch fixes Physx apparently, it was only running on the CPU before. Use this link (http://physxinfo.com/news/3628/mafia-ii-demo-tweaking-physx-performance/) to try to help tweak physx

Wasnt sure if all of you have seen these wallpapers, so thought I'd post them.

youre running around with an m1911, then you find a thompson and thats all fun for a little while. then theres a cutscene, and you see the back of some big looking gun, and suddenly youre behind an mg42 gunning people down out of a window. this demo kicks ass

I love the demo, I really expect this game to be waaaaay better then the new GTA garbage. Sadly I can't preorder it, and it seems Steam dosn't let you buy the first one. You only get it with pre-order? Gunna search around for it.

I didn't realize how much I appreciated blind-firing in other cover shooters until I played this game

Combat is as standard and cookie-cutter as it gets. It's not as broken as most of the generic ones, but it's not as smooth and intuitive as the better ones. I also can't figure out why they put the crosshairs so far up the screen, but w/e.

The atmosphere and writing has me much more intrigued. Dialogue is filled with mobster movie cliches but they're still presented well, and I'm loving the 40's city aesthetic. There wasn't enough gameplay for me to really say anything about the more controlled open world (as opposed to the GTA4/RDR's entirely open, minigame-riddled environments) but it's an interesting approach. I'll probably either rent the game for 360 or wait until the obilagtory Steam sale, but I still like what's going on here.

im excited for the story and the atmosphere most of all. thats what originally roped me into RDR too, and that game was worth every damn penny i spent on it
E: and i fucking love thompsons.

so i preordered this yesterday and picked it up today. for those of you not in the states, you can still get 2 bonus DLC packs for preordering (i think one of them is a big tank). the game itself comes with a poster with a blown up map of empire bay. if you preorder though, make sure to keep your receipt when you pick up the game, because for me the 25 digit codes for the DLC were on the receipt.
E: the there are 2 bonus DLC, and each DLC has 2 suits and 2 vehicles, so thats a total of 4 suits and 4 vehicles. apparently the war hero pack's vehicles are superior to all others.
