While I realize I'm probably doing almost exactly what I've told others not to (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?20759), I can't keep using the default AR model for my mod's BR. I can't recolor metal and have it easily identifiable from a distance without looking silly. Every tag I can find has either shitty models, textures, animations, or some combination of the above.
I hate to beg for tags, but does anyone have/know of something that isn't terrible? I don't need an H2/3 BR; just some sort of scoped rifle (as long as it retains a Halo feel.)

The only ones I know of that are animated well would be:
Zteam's PB2 Battle Rifle animated by CAD
Halo 3 Battle Rifle animated twice by IMBrokeRU (you can find V1 in Jesse's Sandtrap (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=5274) on Halomaps)
I myself have nothing complete in my arsenal of animations, nor skinned models. The only I know of to be released are the ones I've stated above. Could always use them as a placeholder too until I perhaps find something better (though I doubt I can unfortunately).

the difference being you have posted a ton of work on your particles and mod, making it well known.
i have a battle rifle model, but its not textured though so i dont think it does you much good....

You know -- real projects are collaborations.
If your mod is built on Halo, which is built on DirectX 9, which is built on Windows, which is built on x86 standards -- not to mention the hundreds of other contributions including XBADPCM, BINK, etc... what's being petty over using one 3d model?
If there's something you can't do either because it's not your skill, or because you simply don't have time -- but it's available elsewhere (licensed in a way that you can use it) -- use it.
Don't feel like anything less than your accomplishments because you reuse something.

CMT's BR is too short but if you do use it I would say rip off the GL because it is really tacky looking.

Can't get to Zteam's BR because it's protected, and the Sandtrap one has all kinds of weirdness going on with animation origins which makes it highly inconsistent with the rest of the weapons.

That's what I'm doing here: I can't find a decent gun, so I'm asking if anyone knows of one. I've already reappropriated quite a bit of content from other people, and I'm not shy about continuing to do so; it's just that I'm a massive detail nazi, and I can't bring myself to include something if it's not nearly perfect.
Outside of finishing up the encounters, this is the last thing I need before I'm ready to put out a30. I'll resort to the Sandtrap BR if necessary, but still, it'd be nice to have something else.
E: Also, as I said above, I can recolor the plasma weapons because they're so outlandish, but recoloring gunmetal looks dumb. Reusing the AR's model & textures for the BR means that it's impossible to tell which weapon is which until you actually go and pick it up, which makes for terrible gameplay.

Yeah, I realized the Sandtrap BR is Halo 3 and won't exactly fit in with the other weapons but I was just letting you know of all the options. I'm sure you could get Zteam's BR though, I think it'd fit in well as long as you adjusted the texture for it. Right now it's a bit brighter I believe, should be easy to fix.
I'd forgotten about CMT's BR as well. MPv2's is, you can get it but that has a grenade launcher too. Animations aren't bad, not good either. SPv2...they aren't "terrible." I for one think Teh Lag did a great job with all of the SPv2 animations for the years of experience and age he was at but now-a-days I guess it doesn't cut it.
Donut, are you talking about the Sigma BR by the way? ICEE's anims on that are a bit old, and mine were...never really finished. It's untextured like you said though, and waiting would take too long.

What say you ifaf? if you like it, I'll gladly finish it. The weapon's texture looks a lot better in game, mine is kind of low res.

He hasn't made them yet, he's just showing you an origin to show that "he's interested and willing to help" if you want him to do so.

Really, this was the thing I was most worried about. If I can get this stupid gun out of the way, it'll be a massive hurdle crossed; only one other weapon isn't yet entirely finished and balanced, and not only does it not appear until a50, but I'm still not sure whether I'll even keep it in or not. After that, it's just encounters and polish.

New AR animations would always be nice, and while you're at it, you can reanimate pretty much any of the stock weapons you want except for the shotgun (because it probably won't appear). None of them are absolutely necessary but I'll take whatever I can get.

I'll do the BR and pistol for you if you like. Br animations can probably be transferred to the AR, with slight modification so it wont look like shitty copy bullshit. You up for cooperative animation of dafi's weapon set, odx?

Unless you guys plan to do this in, like, three days, make the BR a priority so I can get a30 pumped out before the end of the week. A50 can then include the rest.

Yeah chances are that A50 is what will have most (if not all) of what we do. Right now, like I said, I'm finishing up a pistol and ICEE's hopefully doing the BR if he can.

I think I'll pass on those for now; while it's not a showstopping thing (hey ODX/ICEE, this goes for you guys too), in line with the spirit of the mod, I'm trying my hardest not to do a carbon-copy of anything Halo 2/3, and this applies to animations as well.
Also, it's a minor thing, but can you guys have the running animation be in line with the sound loop? In H1 (and 2, I believe) the moving animation has the gun bounce far slower than the audio would indicate.

You won't find a problem with me and ICEE copying Halo 2/3/etc, though I'm more of the Halo animator so some of my stuff may resemble that found in the games.
Hmm, the walking animation should be something custom made and not just a slapped on Halo 1 walking, aye?

Yeah, copying is a solid no for me. Always has been. I'll keep sonnyboy in line too(snicker). Add me on aim/xfire? they're both ukironclad.
edit: the more I look at the texture on this BR, the more it looks bad.. Mind if I switch to the ripped halo2/3 model?

I suggest taking it, it makes it easier on everyone. Plus theyre awesome.

Yeah, he said he was going to replace the model with h2's model so you can use that texture, then add a firing/melee animation and upload it and PM it to you on halomaps.
