I really like Fallout as of late and I really think that it could use some talented modelers and animators like the ones here making the mods. Anyone here like Fallout 3/NV? Anyone dabbled with modding it? Any reason people are abstaining from it?

I know one of the Top 50 FO3 mods some time ago was the Suitcase Nuke used to blow up Megaton if you opted for it in the game. Other than that no. I would suspect that modding for NV was much more lucrative seeing as how it uses an even more perfected FO3 engine...so less bugs.
Too many people complained that it used the relatively same engine as Fallout 3, but honestly I see no problem. I have the 360 version so I can't as of yet comment on the PC version, but I have no issues with it. Game runs fine, still fun as ever, AI encounters are even more harrowing and hectic now. Honestly this game deserves nothing less than a 9/10.
Gamespot said the 360 version is "swarming" with bugs, but the only bugs I've noticed so far is the random dead body of who knows what randomly falling after I fast travel, and that's only happened once. The second being a save glitch, I saved outside of a Ranscorpion den AFTER killing the external scorpions, went to play something else. After I came back and loaded all the scorpions were back, about 3 Giant, 2 regular and like 5 small. That one was a bit more irritating seeing as how I lost a companion with a VERY valuable perk....

The problem with the FO3 engine is that it was built off of the same version of the Gamebryo engine that Oblivion uses and therefore looks like ass, especially on PC where you get AA and higher resolutions. I think that's what a lot of people are taking issue with.

On the PC version, the only bug I encountered was when I fast traveled from the Goodsprings Cemetery to the main town; the game crashed and I had to do a couple quests again. Now I make it a habit of saving every 15 minutes or so.

How do I enable the console in Vegas? I remember finding a way to do it an 3 but I can't find anywhere that says how to it in NV. I'm stuck at a save in a radiation zone with a bunch of shit running after me and there's no other save.

Just press the tilde key. It's enabled by default. Enable godmode, run out, disable godmode.

Sadly, the running animations are still terrible in NV. Any mod that fix this?

The animations suck for almost everything in the game.

Posted this for you guys long ago for Fallout3. Still not perfect, but is better than default for most weapon idles (I especially like the assault rifle idle). Haven't had the time yet to try New Vegas, but it should be exactly the same.
Also, I ported this from a CSS skin long ago. I did not model or texture it, but it was fun porting it over and rigging it onto the Fallout3 skeleton. I made and got the cubemap working on my own, which to this day I have not seen any other modder accomplish on a weapon mod.

That's awesome, the scope actually has reflection. Most of the ports on nexus have broken smoothing.

You guys should re-animate the game.

There are already reanimation fixes for players and weapons which were ported to New Vegas from Fallout 3. They are much nicer looking than stock FO3 and NV animations.

That is one of the best ideas I've ever read. Hell, I'd buy the game if there was just an announcement of that.

i've thought about doing that actually. Much of it could be done, but there is some issue in the weapon's reload times. They go so fast, I don't think it would be possible to squeeze a decent animation in there.

Haven't you ever checked out fpsbanana? They're always dealing with short reload times and yet they still manage to pull something smooth and, sometimes innovative, out of it.

Yes I have, and overall I am underwhelmed. Also, Fallout's reload times are extremely short. Valve game's animations (which are primarily what FPS deals with) aren't lengthy, but not that bad.

I really wish someone would make a full conversion mod that would take out all of the overly 'stylistic' elements out of fallout (super mutants, robots, shit like that) --and add a lot of stuff from the Korea and post-Korea era. I know the science fiction and borderline comedic design style is what makes fallout fallout, but I'm talking about giving it serious stalkeresque post-war feel with weapons from the era--I'd love to see Garands, BARs, PPSh's from invading chinese scattered around. On top of that, have uniforms, brands, etc from that point in time. It's a pipedream, but I think I'd be pretty cool.
But I'm a faggot so

That
Actually sounds like a decently cool idea.
if I didn't hate Fallout 3's engine with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

That would be pretty sweet.
(and totally easier than "build a city from scratch" )

I always disliked the way Fallout 3 didn't have cool looking uniforms from the Fallout era.

In the Fallout universe, the nuclear apocalypse didn't happen until the late 21st century. The only reason the 1950's are relevant is because in Fallout's alternate future, the science fiction of the 50's became a reality. In fact, I'm not even sure if the Korean War happened in Fallout's continuity -- it's such a vastly different reality.
