This is pretty awesome. I saw it on HBO (http://halo.bungie.org/) today.

It's a program called Vanity that allows you to play around with the armour sets from Reach to find a combination that suits your taste and it'll tell you how to get there in the game. I completely forgot about Veegie after HaloMods went to hell.

I encourage you guys to read the FAQs section so you can fully appreciate what these guys are doing. There are a few bugs and exclusions, but for what they have done so far, it's pretty amazing. You can also save a PNG image of your final outcome, sort of like that Halo 3 armour program of this same sort, except this program is extremely high quality.

Edit: The the exported images are surprisingly high quality. Here's a quick random one I made:

Looks pretty awesome, will try. Was waiting for someone to make something like this, but it was nowhere near as easy as Halo 3's or ODST's.

Thank God. I was looking for something like this even before Reach came out.

Big ups to these guys. Awesome job.

So it won't let me download this...something about not having permission to access the file on that server.

It won't let me download it either, says forbidden, thou some of the smoothing on some model parts and the shaders could look like they can use a touch up.

Other then that awesome job to those guys.

The mirror is still working for the download by the way.

If the original download is up, I wonder if they got a C&D (since it's using extracted resources)

Hell yeah. I can't wait to see what they will come up for the DirectX version of the program. It would be cool if they could make the character have idle animations like in Halo 2 (Halo 3 and Reach may also have them, but I haven't customized a character in either game so I'm not sure) when customizing your character and have the ability to rotate the character. Something else that I'd really like to see done would be to swap out weapons. I was surprised when I discovered that the program didn't have that options. Then again, these things all take time to do.

Damn, that's a fine program they have right there. Would've liked to have seen some of the helmet options up there, but eh.
My guy, once all is said and done:

All I want is that damned helmet.

My only problem with the Mk. V shoulders is that they stick so damn far off the arm... they just look awkward in Reach, really.

But yeah, this app is great considering I haven't really gotten a chance to see how my armor ideas would look all together, only one piece at a time. Just drives me even more insane that I'm stuck inching forward rank-wise, Lt. Colonel still seems like an eternity away.

IMO, the only pads which don't look absolutely out-of-place (and awkward) are the Multi-threat pads

The Recon and Hazop pads are also fairly inoffensive, if I recall correctly.

E: This is what I like to call the "modernized Mk. V." Looks as close to the original Mk. V as I can make it without retarded pads and including something resembling the pouches present in the first game.

They have pouches. Why does no one trying to recreate the H1 look use the pouches? I'm not going to bother doing it myself given how atrocious the Mk V items look. It's like they were openly mocking the old armor with that stuff.

I don't really take pride in my armor. It's just as un-crappy as I could get it while still being somewhat unique. I did get an unsolicited compliment on it one time by some random Halo fashionista. I should have asked him if my choice of utility made my thighs look slim. Damn. Missed opportunity.

I installed this just to check the names of some of my gear. The image of the spartan looks like a Picasso painting to me. All the various images of each part are in the wrong spots and/or the wrong relative size.

hot dang that's a small gun compared to the spartan.

Well, it's either tiny guns on spartans or hilariously huge MA5Bs on marines like in halo 1

Yeah, so I found two problems with the program so far. First of all, it makes it so the default knee guards are the same colour as your primary colour, while in the game they're always white, no matter what. Secondly, the Assault/Sapper chest doesn't have the grenades around the waist like it does in-game.

Anyway, I'll post pics of my "dream Spartan" once I get out of class and go somewhere where the internet doesn't suck balls.

I found a bug that allows me to have 3 colours on the spartan instead of 2:

Because THOSE pouches are in the wrong spot. That's why. The added chest plate also helps make it look more like a classic Mk. V.

Seeing as how it uses WPF I'm not surprised. The devs of Mono.NET won't be making an implementation of it either last I checked.

Yeah, I wish it weren't there but that's the only shoulder pad that fits well enough. I may just stick with the Commando shoulder on the right though.

Would have to be awkward as fuck to fall on that shoulder with the way it has that knife. Unless you were Kat. Then you'd always land on your feet :mech2:
