View Full Version : Nyko's Intercooler is made out of fail.

A few minutes ago I just turned on my Xbox 360 and got the three red lights of doom. Nothing special. It happened before--no, this was the same 360. Numerous times. It was always because the Nyko Intercooler (http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=71) that I bought a while ago was misaligned with the 360 and/or the power cord, which usually showed the three red lights.

Not panicking, I simply checked the position of the Intercooler and whatnot, moved the power cord into a more proper position and tried to start the 360 again. Still red lights.

To see what was the problem, I tried to take the Intercooler off my Xbox 360 to see what was the issue. I literally broke a sweat trying to do it, and it wasn't because I'm fat. When it came off, I finally viewed the Intercooler plug and the 360 slot.

One of the six little conducter apparatuses on the 360 had a missing piece, and I looked at the Intercooler and there it was--fused to it.

Now I tried plugging in the power cord--no Intercooler--and now it doesn't even start anymore. Right before the Halo 3 Beta begins within ten or so days. With my Gears of War disk stuck inside the disk tray.

You know, I thought the Intercooler was supposed to extend the life-span of my 360...

Oh well. This is actually the perfect time to get an Xbox 360 Elite. Hey, maybe I should be thanking Nyko for destroying my console. Actually, if they give me $500 for the Elite I'll be good to go.

Call MS and Nyko tomorrow and get it resolved ASAP. Tell them that it melted then fused and that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. That should get their attention.

It's been happening ever since that POS releaed, I don't think anyone has gotten restitution for it.

Zeph's right. Call up Nyko first since it's their product which seems to be the cause of your problem. The fact that it fused to the Xbox 360 should be enough for them to get a little worried. If they begin to give you difficulty, get on a conference call with the support supervisor at Microsoft. In the end, they'll probably end up telling you to send it in, so you'll get your way. Unfortunately, you probably won't have it for the Halo 3 public beta, possibly for the entire duration of it.

Post several pictures of the damage done here. If they give you any difficulty on the phone, then tell them that you'll email them pictures.

Nyko sucks and make cheap ass shit that short circuits the 360, and the 360 doesn't ever get hot enough in the first place to overheat unless your Stupid.

Read the reviews. I was fortunate enough to have LOLMART send me the link.

Other Thoughts: The old intercoolers had stories of causing your 360 to fail and leaving scorch marks on the power connector. I personally called nyko and they said they had a recall, their newer models (one without power switch) are completely stable and if it harms your 360 in any way, they will replace it free of charge. No risk in using this thing except 20 bucks.

i sent this to kim, if you have one with the switch, get it off.

Fused to the fucking... wow.

Do you leave your 360 on for a very long time?

Fused to the fucking... wow.

Do you leave your 360 on for a very long time?Sometimes I'll play for three-four hours in a row, but besides that, it's turned off and I give it plenty of time to cool down between playing sessions.

His 360 is one from the UK release day (the dodgy ones...) and it's never had 3 red lights before, and he does play it alot...

You could have an Xbox 360 from launch that has never had the three red lights shown and an Xbox 360 that was defective right out of the box.

Eh, well that's dodgy machinery for you...

And I'm getting the Elite when it comes out in the UK, since I don't have a 360 yet, and I always planned to get one sometimes this year. Hopefully it will be before the launch of Halo 3.

I bought one of those, and stopped using it when I couldn't hear anything going on in-game. :/

Also, the plug was figity and would only actually allow power through if I messed with it for 15 minutes.

Glad to know that it was a good thing I stopped using it. :)

Update: A few hours ago I tried to get my Gears of War disk out of the disk tray by putting back that monstrosity of a third-party accessory onto my 360 and applied pressure on it so I could have some power flowing into my 360. I turned it on for a few seconds, took the disk out, and turned off the 360.
