Bad company 2 friends list

has anyone managed to successfully add friends to their bad company 2 friends list, so they can play together? Every time I try, the friend's request doesn't show up. My friend was literally in the same room with me, and we attempted to add each other, but neither of us got the request.

For the PC version, both of you must be updated to the same version of the game and be logged in at the main menu. Only then should you both try to add each other as friends. I've only ever been able to add friends using this method. Props, Dice, you make shitty interfaces.
