If you're on pc and that happens, just minimize and restore it, it should stop stuttering. My guess is that it has something to do with the loading getting messed up.

There's a Pickpocketing perk which increases your carrying capacity by 100 and from then on you just need to enchant a couple of items to push it where you want it

(seriously man enchanting is a one-way ticket to making the game un-unwinnable)

Taking a blessing from The Steed Stone (a little west of Solitude) also adds an additional 100 carry weight.

@Silicon: modded? If so, these Skyrim mods are getting almost as pretty as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods (namely AtmosFEAR).

Siliconmaster

Only texture mods, which upped the resolution of many of them. Past that, heavy tweaking of the .ini files enabling better shadows, longer LOD distances, more trees and grass, etc. My computer is actually starting to lag slightly when viewing huge vistas outside, inside it's still 60+ fps.

hey, speaking of mods

it's like an inventory UI

that isn't shit

(there's even a search option)

you can get it here (http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863)

E: It doesn't work for chests/merchants (yet, I assume), but still man it's starting to turn into a PC game

It shouldn't take the community to fix what is the creators responsibility.

when i get this game im going to see how difficult ui mods are and whip up a morrowind style thing if its not a huge bitch. that is definitely a step in the right direction though.

but yeah, creators fault, not community's responsibility, thank god for mods, etc...

I guess because I missed Oblivion when it was "the shit" that nothing in Oblivion regarding the UI and how it functions bothers me. However, fucking lock-picking sucks. Like, not exactly sure what the deal is with the hating on Oblivion's UI (like I said, I'm a bit late to the party with the game), but one aspect I hate is hotkeying weapons using the 12345678 combos. gotta stretch my fingers from the WERF area to reach 678 in combat.

^ thats why you keep all the most important shit on 1 - 5
sword on 1, knife on 2, bow on 3, fire on 4, heal on 5, ice on 6 (never use ice). torch goes on 8.

you think this is bad? in morrowind you equip lock picks like weapons, and some doors also have traps on them, so you need another "lockpick" like object called a probe to disarm it. so theres two slots right there.

Yeah, Fallout 3 is the best game they've made technically speaking. And by technically, I mean functionality-wise. And when I say the best, I mean among Oblivion and New Vegas from my experiences. New Vegas is a fucking train wreck; that game's glitchiness, random freezing, and shitty lag have caused me to outright avoid it now. Oblivion is better, but it's old and too particular on newer operating systems; basically weird shit like inconsistent/spontaneous lag and the desktop cursor appearing in the corners (which upon clicking with the cursor pulls out of the game). All in all, I keep thinking my computer is screwy, but actually it's just Bethesda's games being glitch as shit. The only thing Fallout 3 has among these games is the random freezing on UI menus like the level-up screens.

This guy is seriously funny:

I'm speaking of the "game randomly vanishes from screen" bug where it, as the description says, randomly just vanishes. Thank fuck the game auto saves twice for every step you take.

I'm positive that's because Unarmed is linked to so many different elements. It's linked to your Strength, to your Heavy Armor, to your rings and gauntlets, to that Attribute for Unarmed etc. There's also that grid that gives you more capability with Unarmed as well. Judging from the video from a couple of pages back, you also have ultra-finishers that take out foes that still have 1/4 of their health left.

TeeKup
December 19th, 2011, 01:23 AM
Standard leveling takes a while though, for me at least. Heavy armor doesn't increase all that quickly, so Unarmed characters need to temper it with things like smithing, enchanting, lockpicking, alchemy etc.

Also for some reason I can take any and all iron leggings, daggers, and other odd items from stores right infront of the shopkeepers.

Nearly every single book from dragonsreach.

Bought Skyrim today. I also learned about the 2 GB update that has taken four hours to download on top of the two hours it took to install. Yay.

EDIT: I've played about 30 minutes worth so far and honestly it runs (as far as Vsync and compared to Oblivion even) nicely on my computer. My computer is also downloading a game in the back ground as well, not to mention the only performance issue I had was when I was in the first caves and the torch-bowls caused some sketchiness. In the end, I toned down the Antialiasing to 2 Samples from 8 and AntriFiltering from 8 samples to 2. Performance is a lot better now. As far as gameplay is concerned, I'm kind of spinning in circles on what to do. I can already tell there's so much and I'm kind of overwhelmed. Only thing that bothers me so far is the lack of my being able to decide how many points go into what skills from the getgo, but I guess having eight different classes to choose from initially makes sense of that. Also, the menu isn't as convenient as Oblivion's or Fallout's, but I guess it'll just take some getting used to. I'm impressed though, especially considering how well my computer is running this newer game.

Cant say for PC, but for xbox, you just hold down A over the item and it'll pick it up

Also can anyone help on this? Spoiler alert for those who havent progressed the main story line.
So I have been given the quest to kill the dragon leader of the greybeards. Two things on this though.. i've heard killing him cuts off contact between you and the greybeards but not killing him wont allow you to progress with the blades. So do I need to kill him? Or should I not? Also, I cant even kill him anyways because he wont die for some reason -_-

It's known as Grab in the control menu on PC. Not sure about Xbox or PS3 though.

Still working out how to perfect a good performance. Wondering if I should turn off Antialiasing entirely, but I'm positive it wasn't causing any large performance hits for my computer. What does Anisotropic Filtering do to performance?

It's the same for PC too.

I've played for about 12 hours now and I gotta say this is one awesome game. Its gameplay puts Oblivion and Fallout 3 to shame. I'm at the point where I have to be sneaky at Solitude on the main quest, so right now I'm kind of just shooting the breeze and working on leveling up a bit. My smithing is at 41 and I'm on level 14/15. I'm a little bit sad that magic is less prevalent right now, but I guess it makes sense when the only two you have are Fire and Restore. Still, this game is great. I haven't gotten around to dual-wielding weapons or magic yet (still not comfortable doing so yet), but I definitely plan on reaching that point soon, probably after Solitude's main quest role and junk.

Didn't think I would enjoy open world games like this one, but after getting my new pc parts I had to buy this game just to see if it suits me. I'm playing this game on maximum settings and getting good frames throughout, but it does dip to 28-30 in a few areas. Very fun game though, much more enjoyable begining compared to Oblivion.

Also, is the frame rate capped to 60? Or should I say: Will the game not go above 60fps?

What does Anisotropic Filtering do to performance? It tends to kill performance. I have an HD 5670, run the game at High, 4x AF, SMAA injector, and average 30 fps outdoors (looking over the city from the top of Dragonsreach, true outdoors is about 40 fps) and experience massive stuttering indoors since my PC seems to hate VSync (every game stutters with VSync for me whenever the FPS is supposed to go over 60, from Halo to Portal 2)

DarkHalo003

Yeah, same here, Vsync only works every so often (so far, Skyrim has had the best results for it of all the games I have). I wonder if it's the ATI HD series that does this because I've seen some other complaints regarding Vsync and ATI cards are often in the mix.

AF kills, but you don't see any noticeable difference once it's pushed up to 8x or so. It really surprised me when my 590 couldn't handle everything on Ultra with AF up all the way. Cutting AF down gave me great frame rates.

I have a Nvidia GTX 580 and Vsync works almost perfectly with this game. What a great way to prevent screen tearing without dropping from 60 to 30fps when your frame rate goes under 60. Now I understand why they don't want the frame rate over 60, unless you are 120hz monitor user.

Hit smithing 100 last night ^_^.
Got a set of legendary dragon scale armor for roaming the map and a set of legendary dragon bone for major quests.
I've only got one heart, so no best armor for me yet, but considering I've barely done any of the big storyline stuff, that's not a big deal.

How much gold does everyone have? Crafting my way up to dragon armor made me seemingly stupidly rich. I'm going to have to perk up speech bonuses to get vendors more money and the ability to buy any of my stuff if I'm to keep on selling them shit.

I got to 91 and I'm basically broke. Looking for Ebony Ingot. I have four Daedric Hearts, so I'm hoping to craft a sword soon. My Dwarven Armor is at 103 and looks like a Spartan in first person with Dwarven Gauntlets, so I really have no incentive to make any armor besides just whittling away at the remaining stock of Ingots and Ores I have that I won't ever use again. Funny how that works.

I'm at the point where I don't know what to do besides continue the main quest. I'm kind of scared about exploring the world now because Blood Dragons come out of no where and kick me around till I Arrow Spam it enough (after consuming gobs of potions). I also learned that Dragons are the least of your worries at Shout Word Walls, stupid Dragon Priest at Shearpoint nearly finished me after the Dragon battle. Im level 32 and my smithing is at level 86. I currently have about 12k gold but I did buy the 8k house in Whiterun and I have a TON of gear in my chest that I haven't sold yet. With speech, if you have level 100 (its extremely easy to get) vendors will buy your products off you at half of what they're worth. I think if you toss in 5 points onto the perk, it'll change to [item value / 1.4] for pricing.

Lol, I was just moping around in Winterhold by the College when a Blood Dragon shows up. At this point, I'm getting ready to take on the stealth mission at Solitude as a part of the main quest, so my armor is all Elven except for my gauntlets and my bow is at my Whiterun house along with everything else besides my Daedric Sword (which owns at 48 Damage). PlasbianX
January 2nd, 2012, 10:10 AM
Wait what.

From what I understand, you have a base price factor that's calculated as: base = 3.3 - (1.3 * skill/100)
So if you have a skill of 100, thats:
base = 3.3 - (1.3 * 100 / 100)
base = 3.3 - 1.3
base = 2.0

Then to sell an item, it's sell price = [ value of item ] / (base price factor * sell price modifier) (the sell price modifier being perks and what not.)
So if you have an item worth 1000 gold, then
sell price = [ 1000 ] / (2.0 * 1)
sell price = 500

So it's worth only half. If you have all perks, you essentially have a base price factor of 1.42857. So that same 1000 gold item would then be worth 700 gold.

EDIT:

Also, I have successfully left the first cave in the game at level 18 and sneak at 100 and it only took me a total of 20 mins to do. Super simple to do and rather quick. Messing around with a thief alt that'll do dark brotherhood and thief guild quests.

IIRC sneak goes up so long as you're moving, not detected, and an enemy is nearby. Wouldn't be hard to do as long as you were patient. You can also hit Ralof or Hadvar (whichever you follow) with whatever weapons (or magic) you choose indefinitely because they will not die. Idk if sneaking and doing it would make your sneak go up or not.

One thing you need to recognize is that just because you have a certain boost for certain equipment or weapons as a Nord, Breton, or Imperial does not mean you should follow the routes of them. I'm a Nord, focus on Heavy Armor, use a combination of magic and potion, one-handed with shield mostly, use a bow, etc. The best way to tackle this game, I found, is to focus on the path you most want to follow in terms of the equipment and abilities, then have a general basis on everything else. For example, I find it would be almost impossible to win a lot of fights in the 20s and 30s without the use of Restorative magicka. I also find Dragon, Giant, and Mammuth fights to be increasingly difficult to win without a Bow. I rarely use conjuring in this game compared to Oblivion, but I find myself even having to use that to even a difficult situation. It's important to have options in Skyrim, not just concentrations, which is one reason why I believe Bethesda did away with the Major-vs-Minor skill system they utilized in Oblivion.

lol, there is one on a golden plate next to Kodlak in Jorrvaskr. If you do the quest to aquire Mehrunes Razor you can get 4. The Altmer in the College of Winterhold sells them. They aren't THAT hard to find. I'm sitting on like 4 extra.

Currently dual wielding two Daedric War Axes that both do 137 damage. My character is all sorts of angry.

I restore health using healing magic or potions. Usually I just use the Wait trick to restore.

Im level 20. My smithing is level 73. My one handed is 40 something. My blocking is bad. My two handed is 27. My light armor is 30 something. My destruction is 23, and my restoring is around 20. I haven't played around with enchanting or alchemy yet. My archery is level 33.

My biggest problem is that I get tired of one look or equipment style very quickly. Also I am losing interest in the game because I havent advanced the story beyond the first Dragon kill.

Please elaborate on this, I am interested in making the same type of alt for cheap... Did you sneak walk against a wall next to the bear?

No, what you do is when you get to the point where you either have to go with the imperial or ralof in skyrim (very first area of the game where alduin is attacking) you go with ralof (because I dont know what happens when you go with imperials). The first thing he will have you do is pick up the armor and weapon from the dead body and then imperials attack. Kill the imperials then equip a dagger or a sword since they attack the fastest. Ralof will ask you to open the gate with the key but DO NOT open it. Simply go into sneak, stand behind him, and attack him. It'll take a lot to kill him and when he does die, he'll kneel for a second then stand back up and quickly regen all of his health. Just keep repeating this process and never actually put any points into perks or you'll kill him faster and it'll take longer to level. It honestly took me under 20 mins to get to sneak 100 doing this (because backstabbing levels sneak) and it also leveled my one handed weapon to around 40ish. If you do the bear sneak method, it takes hours. This takes minutes

I'd suggest advancing along the story or do some exploring. Going through dungeons, caves, and especially Forts are a good way to spice up Skyrim, especially if you're trying to figure out what method of combat or styles of movement you prefer most.

The College of Winterhold is filled with trainers, so you should definitely go by there and work on that. They also have a lot of missions that can put you in a good way. You can also go to the bars and ask about jobs to do. You'll be rewarded gold for bounties and what not.

Easy way to level speech to 100 too. Go to the bar in riften and have at least level 25 speech. Talk to the npc, bribe him once (you can use this to level your speech to 25) then continue to press persuade. After about an hour or so, you get speech 100. I know these are kinda cheap but I used this on my thief alt so I could have some fun with him.

EDIT: Also if you want tons of free gear, theres a hidden chest in dawnstar that you can access and take from freely. Usually has about 80 pieces of gear, leveled, tons of enchanted stuff, and it respawns every few days.

Just run around Skyrim farming pelts. Use them to craft leather bracers and improve them on the table before selling them. Doing that until you're high enough level to start collecting dwemmer metals to smelt into improved bows will take you up to a high enough level while making you enough coin.

That's actually what I pretty much did to level smithing. Then when I had enough Gold I found it easier and less expensive to have a lot of leather strips and Iron Ingot for Iron Daggers. I'm just trying to figure out the best way for me to enjoy this game, which for many is easier than for me it seems. I'm not the kind to enjoy glitch exploits at all to further the experience. Working with a character challenge:

Mage Knight
-Cannot steal.
-Cannot pickpocket.
-Any two-handed weapons used MUST be enchanted.
-All enchanted weapons (including shields) used must be done by you.
-Only robes, rings, necklaces/amulets, and staves can be used with their original enchantments upon obtaining them.
-Must concentrate on developing in magic skills.
-Non-magic skill perks can only be chosen upon ever 3 levels.
-Stamina can only be increased upon ever three levels.
-You can still improve skills in any way you want (except use pickpocketing to raise that skill and two-handed must use self-enchanted two-handed weapons).

It's fun so far, on level 9. More difficult enemies are more difficult since I don't have an enchanted bow yet. Otherwise, it's definitely a different kind of fun. Dragon battles require my being more resourceful without a bow (lure dragon to Giant camp lol) and I take a lot more damage then I'm used to. Thankfully, Bandits can be brushed aside no problem with Fire magic, though I am kind of bummed that Frost magic isn't as useful as it sounds right now. Game is great regardless.

The Skyrim Online Dev Team's former partner, SkyNet, has stolen the code and money that was donated to the Skyrim Online Dev Team on Paypal.

It is imperative that you guys read about this issue and get the word out. Here's a quote from Skyrim-Online.com:

As many of you know a while ago we decided to form a dev group with SkyNet to develop faster.

Well here is the outcome :

All your donations were stolen by hipolipolopigus, the leader of SkyNet.
Skyrim Online’s license has been violated, they are currently stealing Skyrim Online’s code to build they work.
Why did this happen you might want to ask ?

It’s plain and simple, we decided to have one common paypal account for donations which was not such a good idea now that I think about it.

Then I agreed to let them bind the C++ code to expose a scripting API and a few days later what do I see, Skyrim Online being translated into C# and renamed SkyNet, as soon as I saw that I retired myself from the group, I then tried to move the donations you guys made to Skyrim Online’s paypal account but guess what, password changed.

And now you can find Skyrim Online’s sources inside their repository called SkyNet.

Read the whole blog entry here:http://skyrim-online.com/?p=183

And here's SkyNet's response: http://skynet.hipolipolopig.us/index.php?threads/336/[COLOR=#ffa500]

Here's the Reddit thread that I found this out from: http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/ocqz5/skyrimonline_mod_project_has_their_code_name_and/

This is disgusting and if you guys care about the Skyrim Online project, do not be duped by those SkyNet fools! (Ironic how they have an evil name, too)

Okay, I am Googling it and everything, but I figured I'd post my problem for you guys to look at too.

So at one point, I was walking from the Shadow Stone to a Fort something, and while I was swimming my follower, Lydia, disapeared. I didn't panic since they usually reappear if you use the wait function. But she didn't. So I tried fast traveling to white run. She didn't reappear. I started to get pissed off because she was outfitted with Legendary Dwarven armor I'd forged for her, which if I'd found a corpse could have netted a big bucket of dough.

So I went to the Breezehome to sleep. When my character awoke, there was Lydia, no Dwarven armor or any of my cool equipment I was letting her borrow. Probably 8000 bucks worth of Ingots and weapons. Oh well, whatever. So I asked her to follow me.

This is where my problem is. She said someone was following me already. I ran around, did a bunch of quests, cleared some mine shafts, whatever. No follower. Came back and asked her again. Someone is following me already <.< >.> I don't know whether to get pissed off or be paranoid of the spectre that is following me. I tried it with other followers. Nothing.

you can usually say 'well travel there together' or 'wait there for me'

some quests when activated automatically dismiss your companion because they involve someone else following you.

-Alchemy, Restoration, One-Handed, Block, and Speech are all neutral-ground. Skills can only be leveled every 4 levels.
-Attributes are weighted towards Magic and Stamina. Health can only be leveled every 4 levels.

Also it is objectively much better than other Bethesda games. The polish (by comparison of course) is at such a higher quality its unbelievable.
Having only played FO3, I can say that it's certainly better than that (but I'd enjoy FO4 a lot more than Skyrim) but saying it's better than their past works doesn't make it a good game on its own.

There are sooo many bugs; quests don't work, houses break, the game freezes, etc.
The dungeons are almost always totally linear.
The combat is really simple (stealtharrow, wack shield wack, pewpewlightling, lolbounddaedra) and not particularly interesting (you hit him, is he dead? if no, repeat).
Potions make it almost impossible to die if you're paying attention.
The animations suck.
Horses (except Shadowmere) suck
Your choices carry almost no weight morally speaking.
People react hilariously nonsensically to you (So you're the new member of the companions. What do you do? Fetch the meed?).
Guild missions are retarded (lol be archmage dovakin).
There are two models for (only human) children.
15 voice actors for a 500+ NPC's.
A lot of thing that should be in the game simply aren't (dragon flying, advanced lycanthropy, spears, AO lighting)

and much more I can't think of off the top of my head.

I find the game entertaining, but it would sit so much better with me if they just fixed all this dumb shit and put a bit more effort into it.

February 19th, 2012, 02:30 AM
Started playing this a lot today, biggest issues all revolve around the failure of a UI, specifically the quest-tracking system. To sum it up, I ended up hiking to Solitude to do "Join the Legion" before I even started the Whiterun stuff. There doesn't seem to be a main-storyline quest chain to take you from area to area (is it the Dragonborn ones??).

Then I had this awesome bug where I entered Dragonsreach and everyone inside tried to kill me, yet outside I was fine. I had to fix this by punching a guard in the face, disarming, and then serving time in jail. WTF?!

Game seems like a pile of shit so far, not seeing the hype lol.

At least the crafting system is decent, I used "player.additem" to give myself a bunch of mats and level up crafting to Daedric armor or w/e it's called haha.

yeah there's some REDICULOUS bugs in this game, but if you can manage to look past that, its actually a good game.

you sort of have to TRICK it into not bugging the fuck out, and it's a typical bethesda-game thing.
some people might even arge that it's part of it's 'charm' but saying the game-breaking bugs make a game better is fucking rediculous.

One thing I don't get about the crafting, there are enchantments which you can place on some armor that increase all the stats of the armor you make with it... Does this stack forever? IE: Make armor 1 with bonus stats, use armor 1 to make armor 2 with more bonus stats, user armor 2 to make armor 3, 4, 5, etc...

I'm not sure I understand your question. Any piece of apparel that DOESNT already have an enchantment can be enchanted.

Cortexian
February 19th, 2012, 06:07 AM
No I mean, there's an enchantment that if applied to an armor, makes new armor you create better/more upgradeable. So if you were to just keep applying that same enchantment to all the new armor you make could you make infinitely good armor?

I think it's called Fortify Smithing or something like that.

I've had a few, the Dragonsreach one made it impossible to finish the main quest chain where you come back from killing your first Dragon. Had to find the solution to fix it online, and what a dumb solution it was.

Also, am I the only one who after being turned into a Werewolf, decided that the Companions were creepy furfags and never went back there? Is there a way to un-werewolfify my dude? Werewolves/wolves in general creep me out in this game.

What could you people possibly be doing to trigger these "rediculous bugs" of which you speak? Aside from a few humorous graphical glitches (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198004377171/screenshot/631862291218131610?tab=public) and repetitive voice acting, I've had no issues with this game.

Godly equipment
Step 1) Enchance armor for "Fortifying Alchemy"
Step 2) Create a "Fortifying Restoration" potion
Step 3) Use the potion, unequip all of your armor, and re-equip it right away
Step 4) Repeat Step 2-3 about 3-6 times depending on wanted results (frequently save as it can crash the game or cause negative numbers if you do it too many times)
Step 5) When satisfied with "Fortifying Alchemy" percentage in the armor, make a "Fortifying Enchantment" and "Fortifying Smithing" potion
Step 6) Use the potion and make armor/weapons and use the grindstone or the workbench to upgrade them
Step 7) Enchant armor for additional Godly Fire/Ice/Lightning bonuses.

Now I've granted myself a bunch of perks voa console though and everything is on easy-mode. Probably going to re-roll in a bit here now that I know how the game is supposed to work. I also have that awesome map mod that shows all the roads now, so much better. Then there's the Nude Females mod, that one's good to. Sneak up behind chicks, steal their clothing, and run away. My Whiterun is populated by nudist females it's pretty awesome!!

Well after about 6 weeks I got this beautiful piece of art... :

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/493/skyrimf.jpg

I'll say right off the bat, this is quite possibly the best video game soundtrack I've ever encountered, and thats saying something. There are many other soundtracks that are simply awe-inspring to me, even ones from previous Elder Scrolls games, but this is by far the best. It's hand signed by Jeremy Soule, the composer, and contains 4 discs of simply excellent music. Each disc contains about 20 tracks, and alot of them you will NOT recognize from the game (Not to mention said tracks are freaking amazing...). The last disc however, is all the ambient pieces, which is still just simply amazing and captures the imagination. If you like the music in the game, get this for $30. The wait is long and brutal, but it pays off with all the excellent music.

The only downside to the entire soundtrack is the case to be honest, its made of paper/plastic and is pretty flimsy. Alot of people have said stuff about there box getting ruined in the mail, and im not surprised. However, the art on it is the prophecy mural inside the Blades temple (in a much better resolution and looking condition compared to the game and even trailer, even on this box) and like said before, signed by Jeremy Soule himself in a golden pen.

Where'd you get it? Barnes and Noble? I'm a sap for Video Game soundtracks and I do agree Skyrim has one of the bests of all time. I'll debate you with it being the best, but it's definitely a top contender in my book.

I got it from Direct Song, the official company of Jeremy Soule and his brother. I ordered it back in January but it took 4 - 6 weeks to arrive. This was, simply put, the first time they did a non-digital soundtrack release.

I say predictable because this is now the second DLC to have come out of the "Game Jam" that Bethesda did after Skyrim's release. It was pretty much a week after Skyrim's release where everyone got to do whatever they wanted. It pretty much had the vampire lord, vampire/werewolf perk trees, horse combat, ranged combat killcams, Kinect shouts, etc. You can watch the video here:
