Looking at 3ds Max for when I'm in college; any suggestions?

So I'm only several months from college and I'm looking into finally obtaining a version of Max. I've heard of getting it for free as a student, but I've also seen the contrary. I won't pirate it, so if there are any pointers as to ways I can legally attain it besides paying 3 Grand, then please post them hear.

I get it free as a student. It really is the full version and they're always updating the software. I recommend it.

^^ I got it free too, its the 2011 version. You need a edu or ac.uk (uk only) email.

What about 7? I want to continue working with HCE and I have heard versions past 8 have problems with exporting.

3 years extended at the most I believe. It says so in the link.

You can download 2010 too.
2010 is only a trial. to get an unlimited subscription you have to go with 2011
