Hits the shelves the 25th. Besides me and Sanctus, who's looking forward to it?

DEFO! Loved Dead Space. Second one looks even better, I just hope making Isaac talk works well within the confines of the story they're trying to tell.

I'm kind of looking forward to it. Not sure if I'm going to buy it upon release or wait. Leaning toward the latter.
My first playthrough of Dead Space was a semi-miserable experience. They don't bother to introduce the weapons properly, so you're left to guess which ones would be good to buy. I noticed that trying to shoot all the little swarms with my plasma cutter was a waste, so I thought the flamethrower would do the trick. Early on, you don't have the inventory space to carry more than a couple of weapons at a time. And you don't want to spend money on extra weapons when that same money is used to upgrade everything.
It turned out the flamethrower was a piece of crap. It guzzled ammo with almost nothing to show for it. I held off judgment, because maybe it would upgrade into something useful. No. It did not. The shit part is that enemies kept dropping flamer fuel, instead of plasma packs, so I kept running out of plasma ammo.
I also cursed the asteroid shooting part and was mildly annoyed by the tentacles. On a technical level, the aiming wasn't very good in that game.
Anyway, if I had chosen the Ripper, instead of the flamethrower, I'd probably be picking up DS2 day 1.

Played DS1 a few months after release. It was a fun action title, mechanically and graphically sound. It was not, however, scary at all; the only time I was genuinely anxious was the first few minutes of fighting that regenerating necro before I figured out that I just had to take off the legs every now and then and go about my business. I was never once startled.
Ordinarily that wouldn't be much of a knock but considering that the entire point of the game was to be frightening, it lost quite a few points in my book. Again, though, it was quite fun and I'll probably rent this on 360 or wait for the inevitable Steam sale.

I have the first game, but I haven't finished it yet. I love it so far. Game Informer's review of DS2 gave it a 9, citing that the difficulty escalation later in the game makes it frustratingly hard at times, even on Normal, but that the rest of the game is golden. I am definitely picking it up when it comes out.
@ejburke: I use the flamethrower exclusively on the little tiny Necromorph swarms, and it works brilliantly. Just don't use it in vacuum (duh). Were you trying to kill the larger forms with it? The Pulse Rifle is also a good investment since it makes a great general purpose weapon.

I tended to stick with the Plasma Cutter, Contact Beam, Line Gun, Force Gun. I used the Line Guns' mines on the Swarmers to great effect myself. Of course I consider a fully upgraded Contact Beam to just be outright OP; by far my favorite weapon.

Plasma Cutter, Pulse Rifle, and Line Gun tended to be my mainstays. There honestly isn't much you can't kill with those.

Dead Space was boss, one of the few recent games i've played that had me so engrossed I lost track of time. I might just hire it out though, $120 (for X360) is far too much for an SP game .

Omygawd that price is ridiculous, even if it is NZD. I barely justify paying $30 for a game.

This x10000
Dead Space pales in comparison to Amnesia.
I might rent this if I hear good things about it. I'm broke atm.

Yeah, most 360/PS3 new releases here are around $120-$130. I could get it over steam, but I vastly preferred playing the game on a big ass TV with a controller compared to on PC. I recently got DS1 on steam and didn't enjoy it that much - the mouse acceleration was too frustrating.

I agree. Third-person games run better with controllers in my experience, while first-person is always superior on PC. That's why I also play Mass Effect on 360 versus PC, despite the latter's higher level of polish.

Me, Delta4907, and Nugget18 are going to get it. I loved DS1 very fun. Getting the Collectors Edition and its only $20 more then just the basic copy.
Also if you noticed in the DS2 Demo if you stomped things down fast your player Isaac would curse and yell at it.

I played the Penumbra series that they released first. Haven't gotten to Amnesia. But the demo was freaking insane enough. I really want to get a copy.

I dunno, some things on the PC version still felt to me very... for lack of a better word: console-ish. Which led me to prefer the XB360 versions generally.

I'm on chapter 7 on Survivalist, dear god, this has been amazing so far. I'm also pleased at how the game lacks a defined "loading zone" I didn't even realize I was on chapter 3 until I saved.
Who else called the betrayal Daina did the MOMENT you start heading towards the Unitology building?

Yeah, so I hit a freaking bug in the game. In chapter 13 there is a door you have to replace a battery in. Only the place the old battery is supposed to be doesn't have a battery. Watched my friend play through on his PC. He has it. I don't on my 360. Apparently there's a few bugs like this. Especially in chapter 6. Now I have to start the god damn game over again. It was an amazing game up to this point. I'm really pissed. How could they release something so full of bugs that are that devastating? Meh.
Moral of the story is this: Make sure you save in different slots, and not just in one all the time.

How could they release something that entails the last 4 chapters being horseshit and unnecessary? I was looking forward to this game since the first Dead Space too.
Go literally almost 2 chapters without a store, by the time I had gotten to the gov' sector I had bare minimum ammo and no health, then it forces you through several gauntlets of high level enemies (don't get me fucking started on the final Stalker encounter). Then out of no where, IN A ROOM THAT REQUIRES YOU TO HACK SOMETHING...THE FUCKING HUNTER SHOWS UP.
Am I the only one bothered by the stupid and arbitrary return of the Hunter at the end of the game? Especially its re-design that makes it look like a Gran from Star Wars?
Seriously...what the fuck.

You were playing on survivalist right? I was too.
I had some trouble in those parts too, but it wasn't really as bad as you make it out to be. Of course it'll be different experiences based on play style, but honestly I found the ending chapters of the game to be the best of the whole game. And the Hunter return was just an added bonus, even though I got spoiled about it when I was in that party yesterday. However I will say the most frustrating part of the whole game is the final battle, considering I started it with barely any ammo.

My brain is full of fuck from that game. Bad thing is I still have not beat it because I only have like 1-2 hours of free time.
Teekup knows my brain is going lolololl when I play because I kept murmuring and telling him.

I honestly thought the final battle was easy, Shot Nicole once or twice with a fully upgraded Plasma cutter, then shot the Marker core once or twice with a Contact Beam. The only reason those chapters were bad for me was that I lacked ammo going in. I'm prepping better on my 2nd round and see how it plays out.

Alright, I'm about to tackle the Government Sector on my second round. I have 1 large med pack, 3 medium. 5 full stacks of Plasma, Javelin, Contact and Seeker ammo. Javelin Gun and Plasma Cutter are fully upgraded as well as my rig. I'm also utilizing the Advanced Elite Suit: 25 Armor 25 Slots, 10% bonus damage to weapons and a 15% bonus to stasis duration. Lets try and undo some of the frustration I had.

I stopped by Gamestop on the 25th just to see if anything new and interesting had came out. I never played DS1 but saw DS2 on the shelves (note: I didn't know the game was coming out). Picked up the box, read the stuff on the back and put it back and walked away (ie, it didn't really spark my 'ooooooooo fun fun fun' nerve).
Good news is that I walked out of the door without spending a dime. Bad news is I just watched the trailer and the YMHT and thought it looked pretty decent. However, I don't think I'll buy it until there are some used copies at GS. I just refuse to pay 60$ for a game unless it's GTA, Splinter Cell, or Halo because I've invested experience in them already and know I'll get my money's worth.

OMG I've never been so tense in a game... when you go back onto the Ishimura I'm terrified. I thought I saw the last of this place in DS1 now i cant... i can't stand it, in the most scary - horrific kind of way.... SHHHIIITTT!

WTF? ENDING!
Ok, so I finished... I thought there would be a way more epic ending, I liked the nod to the first games ending, but yeah... amazing game, with a so so ending, still super impressed. I bet at E3 2012 we hear about Dead Space 3!

I loved the 1st one a lot. But this one made turn off the console at the very first interactive part. I think people here know what I mean "by the very first interactive part" if you played the game already.

The button mashing in the demo was a put off. How are such sequences still being used as serious gameplay elements? A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A, oh finally

Why is it we use the right trigger for shooting? Care to explain Kornman? :allears:.
Kornman00
January 31st, 2011, 06:05 AM
Are you actually trying to defend button smashing? When shooting you're doing more than just pressing a trigger. You're also taking aim. In the demo, you were normally taking aim at multiple targets. Oh shit, out of ammo, gotta reload!
Oh no! the air is escaping all around me! I hope smashing a single button (note, I'm not complaining that I only have one button to smash; it's the BS itself) will give me the strength to break open this vent and escape the doom of space! Oh sweet, I just interacted with that cutscene-like segment, I can feel the immersion filling me already :downs:! I can only assume that in "hard core" mode, you have to smash that A button like the Flash in order to be successful.
PopeAK49

It's just not fair, what about the thumbsticks? Why can't they be smashable? Don't they deserve some attention too?
Oh, even better! What if...they didn't tell you which button you had to smash...or even when you had to smash any at all. Now that's entertainment.

I'm on chapter 12 on Hardcore. NO saves remaining, :ohdear:
I'm going to have fun with the laser part in a few chapters ahead. Really hardcore is fun and got my heart pumping very fast at times, one time when I had no health almost and went berserk with the contact beam alt fire and mines.
