Windows Automatic Update Issue.

Just recently I purchused a new laptop.
Everything has been running smoothly till today, when it started installing Automatic updates on shut down.
Its been stuck on 39 of 52 for the past 2 hours (and counting.) Iv had a search on google and it seems others have had the same problem but in the places I looked no one gave a reply that seemed valid.

I cant click or do anything, and im afraid to force a shut down due to the fact is says "Do not shut down"
Should I force the shut down, or wait it out?

I say force it. This happened to me when I updated my sister's laptop 2 days ago. I forced it, restarting into windows, then clicked windows update and resumed the updates that came after the one that froze. Haven't installed the one that froze yet. Things seem to run normal.
