Have any of you been following along with this?
A Fistful of Arrows is a fan-made graphic novel detailing what happened to Jun after he was ordered to escort Dr. Halsey to Castle Base.
Not made by me in any way, shape, or form.
Reach is falling. The Covenant is rising. And the Spartans are dying.
Although Noble Team, a group of the legendary Spartan super soldiers, has been shattered, their sacrifice enabled humanity to discover Halo and ultimately defeat the Covenant. But one shard of their story was never told: Jun, the marksman, the Spartan who talked too much, who attempted to rationalize everything, and who kept a struggling conscience in check as he continued to dirty his hands for the greater good.
Discover what happened to Jun between the events of Halo: Reach and Halo: First Strike as he escorts Dr. Catherine Halsey to CASTLE Base. While the Covenant burns the world around them, Jun and Halsey will be tried and tested in the shape of a fleet of warships, elite squadrons of Sangheili warriors, as well as Jun's own troubled past...

I think the artwork is spectacular, but the story is still struggling to get anywhere IMO. I like how it shows why Emile etched his skull into his visor.
Anyone else? Thoughts?

I started reading this way back when there were only five pages. It had my attention then and if I weren't distracted right now it would still have my attention.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the structure, seeing as how it starts in the rebellion and then goes to what I assume is Dr. Halsey. The guy needs to work on his timing... Amazing artwork though.
Also: Dr. Halsey looks like Mallory Archer :-3

I think he pointed out that it started originally when Halsey and Jun left the place in the Pelican. To avoid repeating a scene everyone has most likely seen, he just left off to what Jun was thinking about when they were on their way to CASTLE Base.

Really well done if you ask me, looks like it could be an official comic. Could have fooled me...

I liked it! From what I know of story writing this guy can write.

And I hope this guy is hired at 343i. We need some good writers to balance out the cliche ones.

Am I the only one that's actually considering this as canon?

Nope. I'm considering it canon. I don't consider half of the Microsoft-endorsed stuff canon.

What if you don't consider Halo: Reach canon to begin with :ohdear:?

Good point. I hadn't thought that through.
Let me put it this way: if I were to consider Halo: Reach canon at all, then I would consider this comic canon as well.
I do believe there is room to make Halo: Reach canon. All you have to do to make it fit in with the books is make it take place just a hair earlier, and remove the Pillar of Autumn being on the ground (bricks that massive can't fly, and certainly not with such tiny boosters).

I enjoyed Reach. I enjoyed Reach's story. I don't enjoy having to keep two versions of the universe wrapped up in my head because I enjoy both playing games and reading books (except anything which has the word "Bear" plastered on the cover). But I'm not going to waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah about it, like how some people waaaaaaaaaah about bloom or AAs. It's just annoying how the campaign designers and writers 'live in the moment'.

Yeah, same here. I've just put my foot down in my brain and decided that I like Nylund's version of the story better than Bungie's.
Also, bloom is not that big of a problem. I still don't understand why people are whining about it. I can understand whining about Armour Lock, but everything else about those two problems is fine.

Reach's story besides the launch of the Autumn and the Spartan IIIs themselves I can deal with. I can tolerate the launch of the Autumn because it was absolutely beautiful to see that ship fly once more. The Pillar of Autumn itself was just so awesome in general.
I REALLY want a Halo game, or something, to properly demonstrate the firing of a MAC cannon. Halo 2 did well with Cairo, but I want to see it at a distance. I want to see that 3000 ton slug tear through a covenant ship like it was goddamn tin foil.

Last I checked, the creator doesn't do this for a living, so that's pretty damn cool. It's amazing in the same sense as H2CE was amazing for its time and authors.

H2CE still is amazing. It plays a hell of a lot better than Halo 2 does. On every shared map.

Welp, there was a really small teaser update about a week ago. Not much really to discuss. The rest of the comic should be finished this month.

I really don't like his depiction of CASTLE. I always imagined it more like a mountain range. But then again, I don't really like the way Bungie depicted Reach as this huge desert/shrub-land combo when it was described as a forest-y world.

Well we all know how much Bungie loves deserts...

^ that. It even looked extremely foresty in that little flashback scene in Halo 2.

And where did that nebula surrounding the planet come from? I mean, for real, what the fuck is that? And that giant planetoid/planet/moon with rings? wat.

I get it now.... But I'm not sure if it's just the really harsh blue atmosphere mixing up colors, or if that's all genuine green forestation.
