So I still have yet to pre-order LA Noire.

Now I'm trying to decide what stuff I want so that I can choose what 'extras' I get. I just want to know what you guys are getting in your preorders.

I'm not going to buy Amazon's though, screw paying for shipping.

Edit:

Wow, the game fills an entire blu-ray, that means it will use 3 xbox 360 discs.

Since it's open world, it probably has duplicate world geometry/info on the discs.

Just going to get regular and hope they provide the extras as DLC later

i preordered the game through gamestop, so i got "The Naked City Vice Case & Badge Pursuit Challenge", but i also got the chigago piano. im looking forward to this game like crazy, but damn on that 3 disk thing. i might have to move my 360 somewhere a little more accessible. as long as theyre all in one case though, i cant say i mind too much. if this game is longer than red dead, i dont think ill ever finish it. red dead took me over a month with consistent playing. im looking forward to seeing this new animation system too

We either need a Disuccsion thread for this game or turn this thread into a discussion area because this game will ROCK!

You guys seen the new action orientated trailer?

Looks amazing, however I don't really care about the action because i know thats not what this games about :cop:.

Well theres this topic, or one I created back in November (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?22634-L.A-Noire...Its-Back!). I'd like to see lots of chatter about the game, pre-release and post!

I preordered from Amazon when I saw they were offering a $15 credit. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a new game -- it seems like they offer money back on almost every big release. Plus, Amazon Prime ensures I get it on the release date.

I think they are going to release the bonus cases later, probably for a nominal fee.

You should always be able to get it on release date. Even without Amazon Prime.

Who sends you code, R*? I havent heard about that.

Mine should be here Friday, can't wait! I dont think this game will have much replay-ability, except for redoing missions.

Well, that's neat. After I got the $15 promotional bonus, I got an unexpected $5 credit on top of that, plus they refunded $1 as a pre-order price guarantee.

Anyway, the game is pretty cool, but does anybody know how to lock the camera on your target during a chase? I read an article with a developer claiming that holding down the "camera focus button" will accomplish this, and it was a "pro tip". Well, if there IS a "camera focus" button, they did a good job of hiding it -- and I've been using this controller for years. Pro Tip for Team Bondi: don't bury important functionality. I hate it when I lose sight of my target and have to pause the game to check the map.

Also, I don't know how I feel about the interrogation mechanics. I hate getting things wrong. And the Lying option seems way too specific to what the writers had in mind, vs your own personal reasoning. You have to select the Lying option, and THEN listen to the clue PHelps gives you as to which one they want you to pick, otherwise you'll think you're being clever and come up empty and that is just the worst.

There's nothing game-halting about missing questions, but it just bugs me and robs me of all satisfaction. Using a guide is becoming more and more tempting.

thats the thing though. the question thing was pissing me off too at first because i felt like an idiot getting it wrong, but then i realized as the game went on that getting questions wrong can alter how the cases play out. it doesnt break the mission, but it does change stuff, which i think is awesome. its kind of like that thread we had a while back about the game that dynamically adapts to the stuff you do. so whoever said no replayability, im gonna have to disagree. i could easily play through each case at least twice and have almost a completely different outcome each time, with many ways to get there.

im kind of disappointed in this game as a GAME though. the story is great, but the game itself seems a little lacking at times, like they forgot they were making a game or something. first off, the cover system and controls are clunky as fuck. the button to sprint is the right trigger. the button to shoot is the right trigger. thats right, we have a button that both makes you run and makes you shoot. it so fucking counter intuitive. im sitting behind cover one second, popping out, shooting, then going back in, then the next second i want to run out and change cover. so i break cover, and now what? i slowly walk to the next cover because i dont even consider trying to run with the button i just used to shoot 4 people in the face. and the graphics are what the fuck sometimes. i cant go a minute without some weird graphic artifact on something. and the health system. not so much the health itself, but the way the game shows you what your health is. the screen goes from color to black and white, but there is never any visual indication that youve been shot, let alone anything to tell you where youve been shot from. one time i rushed right at a guy who shot me with a thompson, and the only reason i knew i was shot at all is because my back looked like a fucking hamburger.
im just curious how we go from a game like red dead redemption with a perfectly fluid cover system, graphics that i can never once remember having issues, and a decent health / health notification system, to a game like this where there is such an issue with these things.

still waiting on this fucking tommygun code too :maddowns:

E: oh and fuck the ai drivers too. i turned my fucking siren on so you get out of my way, not so you swerve directly into my fucking line of travel. i swear to god its like they try to hit you.

It's just like real life! Hear siren, will panic and get in the way! :v:

Also, R* games have always had wonky graphics. Stretched bitmaps galore, flat textures, artifacts, whatever.

If you turn the siren on, your suppose to go in the left lane (of the right side), basically the nearest lane to the middle of the road. They will then swerve to the RIGHT.

Team Bondi != Rockstar.

This is not a Rockstar game. They are only the publisher, jeez.

The camera focus button is "B" (or "O" on PS3). I found this out on Disc 3, when I had to follow someone on foot and a hint popped up. The reason I couldn't find it is because it's so slow to activate and swing into position. I was expecting a quick snap. Really, it's not that useful because it's so slow ans subtle. I still prefer to stop and check the map.

I completely agree about the cover system. It is clunky, junky, monkey crap. But my policy is that as long as it isn't holding me up and keeping me from progressing, I can let it slide. The gunplay is absurdly easy. The most annoying situations were the hostage standoffs, and come to think of it, I don't remember doing any of them after Disc 1. Weird. Oh well, even that was pretty organic. At least they didn't try to shove a bunch of garbage mini-games down our throat ala GTA. I'm thankful for that.

Didn't really notice any artifacts. Although, it drove me nuts when I would spot a possibly unique car on the road (and they all fucking look alike). I would follow it, overtake it, and cut it off to force it stop. But this game LOVES to make cars vanish into thin air as soon as they have lived long enough and they are not being rendered. I had to learn the hard way to always keep the camera pointed at my target. Goddamn game only keeps a handful of different types of cars in memory at a time and it just loves to flush unique cars that would stick out too much if they were used repeatedly.

ejburke, the first time you need to tail a car it tells you B (or O on ps3) is the camera focus button. That was disc 1.

well see, driving school doesnt typically teach you about persuit driving, sirens, and cop etiquette of the 1950s. common sense should dictate "oh gee theres a cop car coming up on my right, maybe i shouldnt swerve right into the guy's way"

what the hell did they teach you in driving school?

You're still supposed to go right when a siren comes on, that hasn't changed <_>

nobody ever told me that, ever. they also never mentioned it in the game, which seems like a somewhat helpful piece of information. with that in mind, the AI will actually swerve directly into the side of my car when i turn the siren on if im next to them. the driving ai need some work, is what im trying to say here.

ejburke, the first time you need to tail a car it tells you B (or O on ps3) is the camera focus button. That was disc 1.I wasn't trying to imply that there weren't any cues prior to Disc 3. I was just saying that's when *I* finally caught on. I went through the manual looking for that sucker, google was no help. They could have done a much better job of making that feature transparent.

It brings up another issue that they love to flash these tips up in the corner of the screen, while you're trying to focus on playing the game. Especially early in the game, I'm not comfortable taking my eyes off the action and I have less patience for tutorials, because I figure that I'll discover what I need to know on my own. Do the tips show up in the log, so I can see them while the game is paused? I'm not even sure and I already finished the game. Sheesh.

You go right to avoid the cop and traffic because left is their right, hence a big gap in the center of the street emergency vehicles can travel. You don't go LEFT into the ONCOMING lane. Jesus who taught you to drive?

E: This game is also fun.

mario kart.

seriously though, again, would be nice if the game mentioned that. and again, nobody ever said anything like that to me in drivers ed. are you insinuating rhode islanders actually know how to drive? because youd be wrong :downs:

also, i finished my first play through the story
what a downer ending. i was hoping to have some final redemption moment where you fight the corrupt vice cops or something, especially after that newspaper scene where cole pulls the gun on roy. i was sure youd end up shooting roy by the end of the game.

yeah i mean, im not asking for a happy go lucky ending, i was just hoping for something a little more heavy. cinematically killing a guy you have no connection to 30 minutes prior just wasnt that satisfying. take mafia 2 for example, that is a damn fine ending. i was hoping for something emotionally striking along those lines. i mean, yeah, cole's death is emotionally striking, but i was just hoping to see more tie in with other characters you had grown to love or hate, not this random flamethrower guy that the main character knows but you dont really care about.

it kind of felt incomplete. like the job was never really done. i guess that makes sense though. its the 1940s LA corruption. no one man is ever going to stop it.

E: also i might have just not been paying attention, but did the game ever explain the issue between cole and kelso? i get that they dont like each other, but does the game ever go into detail why? when cole starts talking about working with kelso, and how "jack cant help himself" and all that, i felt like i should have been like "oooooooh shit", but i didnt know what the issue was between them. was it just a disagreement during the war?
