Also, Amit, some of us play campaigns over and over and over again. Multiplayer games are a dime a dozen (and pretty much all the same), but a good single player experience is hard to come by.
Yes. Good singleplayer experiences.
I'm not saying Halo 4 will be an amazing single player game, just leaving the possibility open.

That doesn't make sense? Who buys for singleplayer that you'll play like twice, maybe? Rent it or borrow it and play it. Don't waste $70 on SP alone.
I'm buying the game for single player, but multiplayer will definitely keep me coming back for a loooooong time, just like every other Halo game.

I'm done buying Legendary-type editions (that come with scale models of blah). Thankfully they're only doing a LE SKU this time around, so no added bulk and nonsense to go with the other, more interesting goodies (from what I understand, the LE may come with a dev diary, like what H3 had)

It comes with free access to the first three map packs (a kind of season's pass, if you will), a UNSC Infinity briefing packet (in the style of Halsey's Journal from Reach's LE), the extended cut to Forward Unto Dawn, early unlock for six specializations in-game (which is dumb, but whatever) and in-game content, being an armour skin, Assault Rifle skin and emblem.
So 30$ for the map packs, and 10$ for the packet, Forward Unto Dawn, specializations, in-game content and a sexy metal case. Seems worth it to me.
Oh, and no Legendary Edition this time around.

3 Map packs are worth like $30 anyway. I wish they'd go back to larger map packs for Halo like they did with H2. 3 new maps just gets overplayed to quick.

Found another playthrough and commentary of the Campaign mission they showed. No big deal aside from something horrendous at 5:10...it still gives me shivers (hint: me. ODX. animator). Just after that though the guy commentates about how the Lightrifle has two firing modes where it's either single shot, or burst with single-shot in zoom (like the H2 Beta BR):

Really, the suit isn't that bad. Looks like it's the framing of the shots that makes it look bad. I dont know why, but with such an iconic archetype, when you stick him in the camera like they have been it winds up causing him to look like a skinny nerd with too much time on his hands.

My issue isn't so much with the design, but with material of the armor. It looks like MegaBlock toy plastic crud. What happened to the kickass Halo Reach costumes?

They look more like jackals anyways (the Earth animal, for those of you wondering) and they are menacing. I just don't like how they changed so suddenly. They don't even look similar to the Jackals in past games, which is what bothers me most of all. Either way, artistic freedom, so whatever.

I had a similar reaction when I first saw the new Grunts, but after thinking about it for a while I realized that I'm happy with the fact that they're adding their own spin on things rather than just taking Bungie's design and updating it. I mean, we have a new studio making Halo now, let's see their vision of how everything should look. To be honest, while Bungie's designs are amazing, they did start to get stale after 10 years of being pretty much the same. Having a brand new look to everything makes things fresh and new again!

Yeah my first reaction was "oh god wtf", but honestly I'll wait until the game comes out to judge anything. I agree with Hotrod, it might be cool to get a totally fresh spin on things. I view the new trilogy as its own thing, so if they want to make it totally different and call it Halo, as long as it's good I suppose I'll still enjoy it.

To put in my two cents, at first the new designs for the Covenant species seemed out of place, but then they started to grow on me. I thought the designs in Reach represented each of the species' general look relatively well, but there's only so much detail you can add. I think the redesigns look fine (although those Grunts, lol), but it's nothing to really fret about and say "343i is ruining Halo". Halo is different for everybody. But everybody is entitled to an opinion.

It's one thing to rework gameplay, it's another fucking thing to rape the story/universe *cough*Bear*cough and change the look and feel. It's not Halo. It's a Halo mod. Meet the world's largest Halo modding team: 343i. Halo 4: Modding Evolved ('cause we have the tools! No Halo PC for you!).
And you guys thought CMT was bad for not releasing the tags, pfft.

We'll see in regards to the storyline whether or not Greg Bear's contaminating bullshit has ruined it. For all we know, they're only going to only use some elements (like Mendicant Bias, the Didact, etc.) from the novels and terminals in the game to tie the games with the "new" books. Of course, the game hasn't been released yet, so for all we know the storyline could be very cohesive and intriguing.
Gameplay still looks solid though. Loving those environments. Those assassinations, especially the Flag Assassination, look awesome. Spartan Ops is looking more promising every video I watch.

Fair enough. You're right in one regard. It is scary to look at the new jackals because of the butchery that 343i did to them.

Hostly, Id rather them use the halo 3 elite mesh then the one they have here. Halo 3's elites were the most bad ass motherfuckers ever. I remember playing Floodgate and having the Shadow of Intent drop down a few elites, and chief, arbiter and them just murdered everything in there path. These elites just look like iguanas with split lips. Horrendous.
I wasn't really a fan of reaches elites either. There animations seemed really stiff to me. But they look ok.
I must admit the phantoms and covenant architecture in this game look rad. I just wish they didn't ruin the elites.

Once again, I'm liking those designs. The Elite's helmet looks a tad odd, but it's also very alien at the same time, which makes it interesting. The CIO helmet (one on the purple Spartan) looks pretty badass as well, I might just be using that one.

I must say, Halo 4's sounds are generally better than Reach's.
Also, a powerful laser would indeed flash-vaporize the moisture in the air, causing a detonation and thunderclap. Pretty much exactly what lightning does. Lasers should be going "cracKOW!" and not "pew!"

These are all the same sounds we have been hearing for a while if not months, with the exception of the rocket, shotty, SAW, and gauss.
Wish they had given a cleaner recording of the sounds themselves, instead of clips from games, but still they are all quite interesting, excluding the SAW, sounds kind of like an H1 AR xP
It generally sounds like they are going for something more mechanical with the UNSC weapons, very much evident in the shotgun, AR, Sniper, DMR and even in the Rockets to some degree.

Actually, it makes a hissing crackly noise when it burns and only goes boom when you put it in a plugged up tube, i.e. a gun barrel. Mechanicals inside of a gun also make noise when they operate. There's plenty of the latter in the video, not much of the former.

I'm not sure how I like almost every Forge object being a re-skin of the ones from Reach. It'll make life a lot easier to remake a few of my old maps though.
BTW, every little UV error in the original Forge World is burned into my retinas. I will bitch like there is no tomorrow if I find just one in the new version.

Yes it is, but there will still be grenades on the map. I can't say I'm particularly pleased about this addition (which most likely won't be in the Classic Playlists), but if it forces people to use their grenades in a smart way instead of spamming them like they did in Reach, I'm not complaining.

Hmm, that is true, as long as there are a fair number of grenades on the map it shouldn't mess with things too much. I feel like with a few exceptions I usually pick grenades up from the map anyway instead of stealing them off players. If anything, that makes map balance even more important, I hope their map population team is good at what they do.

It doesn't bother me much. Grenades have been a very bitter sweet part of Multiplayer. Though at the right times they are great, half of the time you die or end up dying from grenade spam.

You do have a point DH, grenade spamming has always been a bit of an issue in Halo, especially when it is so simple to use them. Cutting down on the number of grenades you pick up at any given time could help to eliminate that particular problem, and as long as there are enough on the map to pick up, it should balance out quite nicely.

That doesn't actually sound that bad. None of them are game-breaking, and I like the ability to slowly regenerate health for vehicles. I am a little scared of the concept of an Operator driving a tank, no way to EMP them.

I guess it really does come at a matter of opinion here. Honestly, the animations don't bother me much, nothing like what we saw in HA10 with that Assault Rifle shit rig. I'm not a pro animator, so I probably couldn't find the obnoxious minor details. However, we both know I'm mainly in the gameplay and story side of things, so like I said it's merely a matter of opinion. But I totally get what you mean. If there's a detail in the game that constantly stares me in the face, especially when it's a detail about an asset I like, then the game simply becomes unplayable. It's sad to be honest.

They've also got the GUNGNIR helm (http://images.wikia.com/halo/images/d/db/H4_gungnir.jpg) (damn front-facing view and annoying armor skin aside), which I thought looked cool in Reach because of its menacing, faceless appearance. You know they'll have to add ODST, which should remain largely unaltered, and Mark V should be making a comeback as well, but how that looks is a mystery.

Guys... the Specializations are just "carrers" that we go through, which at the end (at level 10 of that specific specialization) give us a Tactical Package or Support Mod, which are two things we all already knew about. They're not a third "perk" to add to the first two.

No, that's not how it works. Those of us buying the Limited Edition get to select any Specialization once we reached level 50, while those with the Standard Edition only get the choice between Wetworks and Pioneer at first. The ability to play through new specializations will unlock in the weeks following the game's release. But everybody will have access to everything within a short period of time. It's like they're giving free power weapon loadouts to people who pay more money.
Honestly people, you guys are freaking out over something which we already knew about. They didn't announce anything new with the specializations asides from a new way to unlock armour, skins and armour mods.

If there's anything I was excited for with this game, it was the story.
And holy shit, I am excited for the story. The emotion in the music is heart-wrenching as always, and I don't even know what scenes it'll pertain to yet. And it sounds Halo, it has a unique flair to it.

The music is pretty nifty. I can hear a twinge of the Reach theme, but used in a more refined way. Personally, I think this will be the next best Halo soundtrack after Halo 1 and ODST.
As for the story, it will be interesting within the game, but for me it's ultimately ruined because it runs with that crap Whatshisface has been writing.

If there's some Glasslands references, I'd be alright with those too.

I feel like that music isn't what Halo is. There's something about it that doesn't feel right. Halo 1 through Reach all had more depth to the orchestral sound. It's still a bit early to be judging the music, but my first impression is that it's not what people will be hoping for. It feels like too much of a departure from Marty and Michael's stuff.

I think you should hold a more open mind towards Multiplayer then. It takes a lot from modern FPS games, but I have faith that 343i will make it into something nice. On aesthetic assets they lack a bit of direction (skin designs = wtf), but gameplay is looking very intriguing, complex, and solid. I just have a feeling that this game will end up being a lot better than many of the :mech: Halo fans think it will be.

Everybody who has played the game at RTX and Gamescon has said that the game plays amazingly, feels like Halo should, and is a definite step up from Reach in every way.
I'm excited for the multiplayer, and I know I'm going to spend a hell of a lot of time playing it, just like I did in every past Halo game, including Reach.

I feel like that music isn't what Halo is. There's something about it that doesn't feel right. Halo 1 through Reach all had more depth to the orchestral sound monks.ftfy
In all seriousness though it would be nice to hear some choral voices, they're what Halo has always been known for as well as the orchestra blended together with whatever else Marty decided to throw in (like the sax in ODST, which was awesome).

I wonder if they just decided to use Havok's vehicle physics instead of the vehicle system built by Bungie. If I recall, they were already switching the AI to Havok's AI framework.

I almost feel like I'm watching a Chrisopher Nolan film during certain parts...
I must say, though, that I am thoroughly enjoying the music versus Marty's later stuff. Most of the music in Halo 3 and all of it in Reach felt rather bland to me.

Really? I'll grant you Halo 3 since it was mostly recycled tunes, but I really enjoyed the soundtrack of Reach. In fact, I thought it was one of the only good things about an otherwise terrible game.

Halo 4 looks fucking amazing. Even if the weapon skins don't look that great, who cares? I don't need to use them. The Halo 4 music is brilliant, even though it isn't Marty's stuff.

Totally agree with this post. I hated Reach's gameplay/story but most of the soundtrack was fantastic (imo)
Just listened to that music. While some of it sounds okay, none of it sounds like Halo at all. I still love Halo 1 and 2's music the best though, mainly due to the variety of awesome tracks in mainly orchestra while using some synthetic sounds too, but this is just like SYNTH SYNTH SYNTH!! while not even sound anyway like Halo.
I gotta say though, "To Galaxy" was pretty sweet.

I liked "To Galaxy" and most of "Revival" and I also loved Reach's music.
I'm gonna give Halo 4 a chance. I don't have high expectations for the multiplayer at all, but I think the campaign looks a little promising.
And the environments just look beautiful.

The soundtracks of ODST and Reach were definitely my favorites because they were different and largely original. Halo 4's music sounds amazing so far. Can't wait to see what sort of effect the music has in-mission.

Reach had great environments. I'm not really sure why you're saying it looks dull either.

Reach had about 2 levels that I found to look nice, the rest of them were very bland and boring, basically lots of repeated desert levels with no variance. So far with Halo 4, the same has been shown, along with lots of shades of grey and darkness. Whatever happened to the bright, colorful skies and lush dynamic environments found in the other Halo levels, such as Halo 2 and 3? The only level that was shown that was "lush" was that campaign level, and that was still a very dark and ominous looking. I know it can't be said without having seen all the levels, but to me, that was one of the things that really drew me in for the previous Halo games.

Thanks higuy, I just realized that the weren't looking at the sky for most of the shots. I bet this means that the sky isn't their focus. Does this mean that we get a centered reticule for the first time in over a decade? :v:

The other soundtracks, including Halo 3's and especially ODST, had a greater variety of colours in the music than Reach. I listened to the entire Reach OST, and all I could think about it was shades of brown. Not really unlike the a lot of the levels, actually. I also felt like the main Reach theme became overused, kind of like how the Watchtower riff in Battlestar Galactica became overplayed in Season 4's OST. Even Halo 1's theme didn't get used that often in the same game.
Personally, I thought the redesigned Covenant and most of the firearms were the best parts about Reach.

Don't mistake bloom for being colorful. Gears 3 was by no means colorful. It was about as dark and boring as Reach.
And Mass Effect was colorful because they wanted to be. Halo's planet Reach was not meant to be colorful. You're arguing completely different games, completely different art directions, and completely different developers.
