I actually JUST bought Ostfront 41-45. I've been bored with everything lately so I thought I'd give it a try.

Red Orchestra is the saddest game I've ever come across. It's so good but nobody plays it because it's also complex. You can't just run at a tank and expect to kill it with a rocket or c4, sniping is actually difficult, and the classes aren't completely broken (ok, so a good tank team can seem bullshit but that's because you're bad). I've heard of people playing this once, messaging me 10 minutes into a game and saying "this game is shit, it won't even let me reload my gun" and never playing it again.

Heroes of Stalingrad is supposed to address many of the "complexity" issues with the game while not dumbing it down for its core playerbase. Of course I always saw it as a patience issue rather than of complexity. You want to see complexity? Go give EvE Online a test run.
An old timer known as iBleed from the Bash and Slash network got a chance to play the game and he wasn't confounded by the gameplay, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. That's heartening news, but the other more hardcore RO players that did get a chance to test the game were not put off by the gameplay at all either. We'll just have to wait for the Open Beta next month and see what's it's like then.

Funny (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?19625-New-Youtube-thread%21&p=586479&highlight=JK2#post586479) how (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?19625-New-Youtube-thread%21&p=583376&highlight=JK2#post583376) that (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?19625-New-Youtube-thread%21&p=582027&highlight=JK2#post582027) works (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?22512-What-happened-to-the-Ownage-Thread-III&p=581450&viewfull=1#post581450). Teekup, I'm going to teach you to play JK2 if it kills me.
Seriously though, this game looks really interesting if only because it doesn't pander to the average gamer. I pretty much quit playing Xbox because no competitive multiplayer games coming out on it were worth the effort.

RO2 is now available for pre-order. I just finished pre-ordering it through Steam. Here's the details of it:
Red Orchestra 2 has finally popped up for pre-order at a number of locations out there, both in box and digital format. Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Red-Orchestra-2-Heroes-Stalingrad-Pc/dp/B002MFU290/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312311354&sr=8-1), Gamestop (http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/red-orchestra-2-heroes-of-stalingrad/91163), and Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Red+Orchestra+2%3A+Heroes+of+Stalingrad+-+Windows/2708319.p?id=1218345949140&skuId=2708319&st=red%20orchestra%202&lp=1&cp=1) each list the title at $39.99 without pre-order incentives at the moment. Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/35450/) on the other hand has the best deal going on for those who like their games digital, we're talking bundled extras on both the standard and digital deluxe editions. Additionally you can get a minimum of a 10% discount simply by pre-ordering now, or even up to 20% if you already own the first game. Here are some specifics on the standard and digital deluxe edition Steam exclusive extras:
Owners of the original Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 will receive the following:
Pre-purchase now and receive 10% off or get 20% off if you already own the original Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

Simple. Have somebody from North America gift it to you and then pay them through Paypal. I'm pretty sure that gets you the North American version.

We're getting the low violence version of another great game, lucky us!It hasn't been censored yet, they're just tacking that on in case it gets an AO rating. Either way, just import it through ozgameshop.

Or have somebody gift you the North American Version on Steam and pay them the less inflated price through Paypal. Everyone wins.

Best first person cover system evar.
The gameplay looks fun as hell, but some of those gun sounds make my ears bleed in a bad way.

Have you played the original RO mod for UT2k3/4? Tripwire used some excellent sounds in there, and I was baffled as to why they downgraded for Ostfront and RO2. The StG. 44, SVT-40, Kar, MP-40/41, and MN1891/30 all sounded so bloody spot on to the real thing in that mod. The PPSch, PPD-40, G.41, G.43, and all MGs are relatively unchanged, and the new SVT-40 in Ostfront sounds alright.
Also, I forgot to mention this from that video:
VICKERS MG! =D

Never played UT2k4 RO. Just Osfront. I'm pretty sure the sounds aren't final.

Earlier this year, Tripwire actually hosted and played on a UT2k4 RO (the mod shall be known as "RO v3.3" from here on) server with the community for nostalgia. Was awesome.
As for the sounds, they probably are final at this late stage. Of course, it could be YouTube making it terrible.

The Beta for Digital Deluxe buyers goes live today. Tripwire is servicing their Steam servers right now, but once those go up the beta should be available for download.

Fuck, this game is cool. Only weapon I've used so far is the Kar98k, but I honestly don't think I need anything else. :v:
The MG34s I've heard fired around me sound somewhat underwhelming though.

Fuck. Me. Sideways. Can't play purely because I don't have a 2.3GHz dual-core CPU. What is this, APB? If I can run UT3 maxed out, why the fuck can't I run RO2?

I read on the BashAndSlash forums that the server browser is showing old version servers too (if you see any at all). Still downloading: 67%.
And Plague, I didn't think you were into ultra-realistic games.
And somebody direct Ross to this thread again. He's failing big time at not keeping up with RO2. Well, afawk.
He's playing it on Steam right now :ugh:

I have three 3-day passes for this game. They've overhauled it quite a bit and it's actually worth playing now. If anyone wants to try it, send me a message on Steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/amit9821).
