That looks really fun. I've been debating getting CoD4 for the PC recently. This helps that decision.

Well, the SP & MP in itself for the vanilla COD4 is EXCELLENT. This mod is just another way to extend an already great game into a great universe. Buy it while it's cheap on Steam. I believe you have until the 10th to purchase, so you're good for waiting until you get paid.

COD4 for only $15 = must buy, Activision or not, as it's a good game.
Just tried this mod, had a blast. Also be sure to disable the Steam overlay for this game as PB is a bitch.
Amit

Damn, really? I only get PB issues with the overlay when playing BF2.

If CoD4 has a low price for PC, I might just buy it for this alone. Is it CoD4 or MW2? Just to clarify.

CoD4.
And even if the price is maybe $20 or something, you should still buy the game. Like Amit said, it alone as the game itself is excellent beyond all measures. It's the last REAL CoD so if you don't have it you must get it.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is going for $14.99 on Steam. Just for a price comparison, the Black Ops DLC's are going for $11.54 each. Ha.

$20 is full price, current sale is $15 (amazingly generous for Activision!)
Also, MW2 does not have mods, sup DLC! Seems that allowing customers to supply their own free DLC is evil and will bankrupt the company!

Is there a server running this mod with actual people in it? Every single server I've tried is always completely empty.

There are the official ones hosted by Black Monkeys. I'm not sure if those were the ones you were on.

If that server runs the way your Halo servers do, you might as well forget about it. Or did you upgrade your host? I can't remember If you host a cracked server, you can just download the game and we can still play. COD4 is something I'd really like to play again, but with people I know. I've never played the game with more than 3 other people that I know.

basically this, and i think the whole modern warfare/blackops/whatever series is a fucking scourge upon the earth needing to be purged with the blood of young children.
just sayin'

You posted in my thread...

I've hosted a COD4 dedicated server (and MW2 dedicated server for AlterIWNet) before and it shouldn't be a problem with my upload now. I may just host a cracked server that you guys can join... I know of a way that works (worked) for 1.7 that let legit and/or cracked players to play together fine. Is 1.7 still the latest version?
Amit

Ah yes, that should work fine then. V1.7 it is. I have a feeling we'd have just as much fun playing that as having a Halo Gamenight.

CoD4 game play isn't that much different from MW2. It's odd so many people praise one then completely shit on the other game.

Actually it is. The fundamental design is the same, but the extra bullshit IW threw into MW2 ruined the game. It's not exactly a mystery as to why a lot of people hate the game. The horrible weapon balancing, the ridiculous killstreaks, and the crappy level design is what made MW2 so unpopular. Ironically, that's the kind of shit that attracts the mass crowd.

CoD4 is 50% off now so it's only $10! Go get it!

$10 is nice, but it's still lame that Activision can't cut it down to even $5. For fuck's sake, the game is 4 years old and there's been 3 COD games that have come out since. I'd get it, but I just have a shit time buying the game on the PC when I already paid full price to own it on the Xbox, especially considering this bullshit.
Also I have two dedicated servers that are each about 5x more powerful than Freelancer's Pentium 4 and 2.5x more powerful than the Q6600. :allears:

Power that's wasted on a COD4 server, and since our pings are basically the same...
Anyhow, I'm setting up the server now.

The original Call of Duty is regularly $20 on Steam. That tells you everything you need to know about Activision.

As long as the server runs solid, I'll play on it. Well that and only if other people play. The problem plagues our BFM BC2 server (no pun intended on ThePlague's name).

I have CoD 4 and never saw what others saw in it. Haven't bought a CoD game since. Just pump the breaks and consider whether you really want to dive into the MP of a 4 year old game for the first time. Are you really going to stick with it enough to be able to hang with the sharks that have been playing for all that time? Single Player is, like all Cod games, the evolution of Hogan's Alley. Which is fine, but I was always bored by that sort of cardboard cut-out shooting range mindlessness. I never had a single urge to replay once I had finished.
Not trying to say the game is overrated or crappy, just trying to add something to consider. I wish I had stopped to think before succumbing to a similar thread about Bad Company 2. I've always loved Battlefield multiplayer, but I wasn't about to jump into a mature game and expect to have a good time without a serious investment. I wound up playing only the campaign and that made me want to stab my eyes out. At least CoD 4's SP never had that effect on me.
If I was recommending the game to a version of me that had never owned CoD 4, I'd tell him not to spend anything over $5. And if it never gets that low, oh well. There are plenty of games out there.

Considering both jcap and Freelancer have played COD games before, I think they know what it involves.

I've been playing, and raping, at CoD 4 for many years heh. I haven't played recently though, and still I'm only setting the server up for the Galactic Warfare mod.

FFFF. I just remembered since I have the DVD version I have to go through patching Hell.

Incremental patches FTW!!

Well I couldn't remember the patch order so I downloaded the 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7 patches. Installed them in that order. I installed 1.4 no problem. Installed 1.5, no problem. I went to install 1.6 and it told me it was already installed and that I should let it delete the current patch and then run the 1.6 patch again. I let it do that. Then I ran the 1.7 installer. I was hit with the same message, only this time it said that 1.7 was already installed. I chose the same option that was given to me with the 1.6 installer. It deleted what it thought is the 1.7 patch and then I ran the installer again to install 1.7.
So, I go in-game now and the version number is correct but no servers show up in my server browser. If I add a server to my favourites, I can join it like that, but otherwise I can't join servers because I can't see them in the Internet category. This is a widespread issue too. People say that after applying the 1.7 patch this started happening. As I probably can't downgrade to 1.6, I can't check if the browser list worked then. I ran into this problem years ago, but I don't remember how I fixed it.
Did I patch my game incorrectly or something?
Edit: Just remembered that the V1.6 patch is v1.0-v1.6. So I'll reinstall, apply that, and then finish up with the V1.7. That should clear things up.
Edit: Actually, that did jack shit to help.

I always have to do 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, then 1.7...
Amit
July 7th, 2011, 06:49 PM
Why? V1.6 includes Patches from V1.1 to 1.5 in addition to the V1.06 stuff.
Cortexian
July 7th, 2011, 10:40 PM
The 1.6 patch I have doesn't include any of the others...
Amit
July 8th, 2011, 03:11 AM
When I re-installed the game I used the V1.06 patch and then V1.07. Those two alone. And the game works with the exception of the browser. Even LAN games need to have the IP favourited to show up D:
Unless there are two versions of the V1.06 patch (one v1.1-1.6 and one incremented from v1.5-1.6), the V1.6 patch includes all previous patches. I don't know of any incremental patches, but just download the one in the following link. It's a couple hundred megabytes because of the map pack and additions. It's all those additions that lead me to believe that there is only one version of the V1.6 patch.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 1.6 patch with additional multiplayer maps.
- New maps Creek, Chinatown, Broadcast, and Killhouse
- Hardcore and oldschool server browser filters
- Fix for a Denial of Service attack
- Includes all the changes up to patch 1.5

Edit: Solved my Server List issue. Some dude on the steam forums uploaded his servercache.dat file and I replaced the one in my COD4 directory with that. I jumped in-game hit join game and boom, all the servers are there. Hell, even doing a full refresh works.

Download the following, drop it into the COD4 main directory, and refresh your server list. Enjoy.
