View Full Version : Looking for a new headset, gaming + media. Not an audiophile.

As the title says, I'm thinking of getting a new headset since my old Logitech Premium Notebook Headset broke at Fragapalooza last year (we had to solder one of the driver wires back on, in a bathroom no less). Now that I'm working at Best Buy I figured I'd get a decent gaming headset and I'm really liking the Logitech G930. The G930 is basically a wireless version of the Logitech G35 which is appealing to me.

While wireless isn't a necessity, if it works for me I'd like to have it for the ease of watching movies and listening to music at night without waking other people. Also, not having wo worry about where cords are when in bed would be a plus since my current cable is stretched to the limit when I'm in bed.

As the title also suggests, I'll be mainly using this for gaming and media playback. I'm no audiophile and I actually like having my headsets running on USB since they show up as another audio device. This just allows for more flexibility than running something like a Sennheiser PC 360.

Might be a bit hard to get a hold of, but the Cresyn C5* (http://www.cresyn.com/eng/product/product_view.php?seq=99&producttype=6&pstatus=A) series are absolutely great. Really tough(lost count of how many times I've accidentally yanked the cable and it hasn't broken yet). Kinda noise canceling, and the sound quality's quite good(though I don't have a really good baseline, mostly used shitty dollar-store headphones before this).

Well, I actually just got the G35. And I love it.
Its going pretty cheap right now at local best buys for like $60

Its has terrific 7.1 surround sound, treble and bass management.
you can use the buttons on the side to program media player, itunes, ventrilo. It also lets you save profiles which is nice.

And gaming is awesome, some games aren't compatible with the 7.1 surround sound. But you can turn it off in the flip of a switch.
The mic is pretty powerful, but it can be adjusted. I was actually looking for a headset with a good mic when i bought mine.

$160US is pretty steep for a headset. I'd just go with the G35.

How much does Best Buy buy the headset for? And I'm assuming the Best Buy employee discount is 10% above the cost?

Employee discount is cost + 5% actually, kinda surprised me since most places is 10%.

I'll have to check but I think it'll be around $110 instead of $180.

Nice, that's quite a grab. It was 10% When I was working at the local best buy 3 years ago. I'm not sure if that has changed.

I think it has, because back when I was working at Future Shop in 2007/2008 it was cost+10. Best Buy Canada owns Future Shop and used to back then as well so it must have changed. I'm pretty sure the cost was like 10895 or something, that's what RSS shows.

Pretty much. I'm always turned off by wireless headsets, though. I have this stigma stuck in my head that the quality is probably not as good as the G35 due to the wireless connectivity of the G930. For over one hundred dollar, I better be wrong.

They're both USB and 2.4GHz bandwidth is more than enough to transfer USB audio quality found in the G35.

No PST AND a generous discount?

goddamnit...

Anyway, the G930 is $140 on NCIX: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=56849&vpn=981-000257&manufacture=Logitech

I got these on sale, but $55 still isn't bad: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=42466&vpn=HS-1000W&manufacture=ASUS

Crap, I forgot that shipping isn't free to homes (I live near an NCIX retail so the only "shipping" I pay for is the bus ride or the gas to go there). No idea what the rate is.

Got the G930's for like $130 including tax and a 2 year Best Buy Product Replacement Plan (anything goes wrong I bring it in and get a gift card for what I paid).
