Basically what the title says. Does Fallout 3 allow editing?

Thanks! Do you think it would be a good Engine for displaying works for a Portfolio?

based on what iv seen, i would say cryengine or udk would be the best engines to work in for portfolio stuff. everything in fallout 3 looks like plastic. same in oblivion too. the construction kits for those games let you do a ton of stuff, but theyre more geared toward making fun shit and game expansions, not making shit look pretty.

portfolio =/= prettyness...

Plenty of game designers don't have high quality amazing work being shown, but rather are looking at the actual gameplay portion of things. i would assume thats what darkhalo is aiming at, since he likes to be into those kind of things

Now that you mention it, I kind of am. I guess what I'm asking is is this engine a decent one that can show assets nicely AND allows plenty of room for many different genres (is the gameplay malleable)?

And I hate replaying to my own comment, but I also want to know some successful mods that have been accomplished using this Editing Kit. I can't seem to find any automatically, just a lot of WIPs.

There was some Vault mod for New Vegas, though I haven't played it. It looked pretty cool.

Linky? Also, anything else besides a mod?

i would really suggest you use Unrealengine to display your works.

1, its easy and malleable enough to show whatever you want to show, in what ever way you want. (realistic/celshaded/painterly etc)

2, you can actually take your work and make it into a 'real' thing so to speak, put some gameplay into it. (and much easier than in other games, since you're often restricted to the established gameplay)

3, you show any future employers you know how to use new tech (ALOT of developers use UDK) and even if they don't use unreal, it shouldn't be hard to switch, since unreal has more or less been a blueprint for other editors since it's inception. (like Hammer being a total unreal ripoff, but absolute shit)

I've been considering UDK too. I'll just have to look at my options. I'm buying the Fallout 3: GotY Edition from Steam (eventually) and I really want to make use of it beyond just the gaming portion. However, besides some texture mods and, sadly, some nude mods (facepalm), no one besides Bethesda has used the Fallout 3 engine for anything extravagant or with any real value.

Some of the biggest FO3 mods are fellout (just removes the fucking green filter), mods that turn on streetlights, mods that add a huge kick to how weapons work (and their mods) and realtimesettler (simcity).

Pretty sure goldensrc is built on Quake, not Unreal.

RealTimeSettler:

Fellout:

Correct?

And what do you mean by "mods that add a huge kick to how weapons work (and their mods)?"

Fellout makes everything look really nice, though I do like how the original makes everything look Pre-Tornadic.

RealTimeSettler is awesome looking.

Question though: will these mods replace the game itself or is it kind of like CE as just a scenario you load separately?

If your goal is to prove to a potential employer that you're capable of learning a current gen engine, you might want to learn Unreal, or Unity. I have thus far found that Unreal is very capable of meeting all my (bolded for emphasis) personal needs, it has much steeper learning curve than the halo engine. Keep this in mind if you're jumping from halo modding to unreal development. Unreal is more powerful than the halo engine, but is much more difficult to figure out.
