So I am looking at an item on ebay that costs around $110, its the discontinued Xbox 360 steering wheel (why the heck they stopped producing them, I will not know). In the past I've only bought a few small purchases like wires for devices, so I'm not use to 'bigger buys'.

The item is buy now only, and the seller has 1239, 99.7% feedback rating so I think that is all fine and dandy, my only issues are with the purchasing and payment methods.

He only accepts paypal, which is a smart move. I am not too familiar with it though. I have a debt card which I want to use to buy it, do I need 'request' money in my paypal account, then wait a while till its IN my paypal account then buy the item, or can I simply use paypal as 'a man in the middle' and add my details in the purchase window and it will come out my account straight away?

I'm hoping I can do it the simple way as then I can purchase it immediately.

Thanks :D

Add your bank to your paypal account. When you pay using paypal, it will first look to see if you have any money in your paypal 'wallet'. If there is none (or there is not enough), the remaining balance is deducted from your bank account to pay for it. The money won't be cleared instantly (may take a few days to appear in your bank statement), but if you're verified, there's a greater chance your ebay seller will ship the item sooner. Hence you don't need to manually take money/request from your bank account, wait, and then pay for your item.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!

Well I have my paypal account with the status as verified, but I requested money from my bank, therefore my debt card is not tied to the account. I was hoping I could pay for it like when you buy items from online retail stores where you punch in the numbers, and it goes through.

As in, I use paypal like a bridge to my debt card. I do so when I bought Minecraft and a few steam games iirc.

Okay I went for it, and it worked fine exactly how I wanted it to - no idea why I worried so much about it.

Thanks for the help NullZero, I'll leave this open just for a while. Hopefully this week the item will come to me and all will be fantastic!

I have my bank account linked to my Paypal account. I can't just pay using my bank account, though. In order for "instant" verified purchases to work, I need to have a credit card linked to my Paypal account. I just used my sister's old credit card details to link that since I dont' use a credit card myself. I get the receipt immediately from PayPal and in a few days the money is cleared from my bank account to the vendor/person. Shit works great. Not sure how you managed to do it with a bank account alone. I previously had to designate a certain amount I wanted my bank to transfer to Paypal and then wait a week or even more for that money to show up in my Paypal funds. Doesn't matter how much money it was either. $3 and $100 both took the same amount of time to clear. Oh those horrible days.

Ah yes I remember the days of having to wait for money to be put into paypal too, I had to wait 7 days as I'm in the UK.

I logged into ebay today just to check everything is cool, I went to purchase history and it shows that I have 'paid with paypal 2011-8-13'. Although I have logged into my e-banking and the money hasnt shown to be taken out, but I assume I have fully paid for it and just waiting for the seller to send it.

It hopefully wont happen, but how long do I have to wait till I can like, file a complaint that he hasnt sent it? I think its 12 days but thats only a guess.
