Sup homies!

So there's this really awesome game that some extremely attractive individuals worked on. You all should download and play it (for free!)

Check it out at http://www.ageofempiresonline.com/install/

It's a fact. Playing this game will make you more attractive, and will raise your chances of winning the lottery.

Plus, you might even end world hunger by playing this game.

IuHxnzAOENM

See? It's super fun. You guys should play it.

It's a Games For Windows Live game, so all you need is GFWL installed and a GFWL/XBL gamertag to sign in and play. :D

Hey anyone want to play some AoE2?

Llama Juice

They went for a lot more of an AoE2 style (gameplay) with this one. Everyone in the beta chat kept saying how they were happy that it was more like AoE2.

They only have 2 Civs right now, Greek and Egypt, two more will come out this holiday, and they plan on releasing more down the road over the next two years or so.

I thought the beta was fun, downloading this now

I hope playing this doesn't eff up my sweet micro for AoE2 at LAN parties

Hell. Yes.

I remember playing AoE2 with my friend at his house on his windows 98 pc. We used to love hunting gazells[sic].

Llama I dont think your excited enough, also I heard this game has tons of bugs, pfft sloppy play testers.

Taking an age to download the damn patch, Art.bar has got to around 70% twice and then gone back to 0%..wtf??

Llama Juice
August 16th, 2011, 09:11 PM
Haha hey, we've bugged everything. It's not on the testers if there's a bug. It's that it would have been too expensive to fix it.

If files like that are looping the best fix we've found is to stop the download and then delete the patchlog.txt and patchreplacelog.txt from the install directory and try again.

This game is fun if you're never played a real AoE game. Otherwise its: :smith: due to Microsoft shutting down Ensemble. Fuckers.

Nero
August 17th, 2011, 02:18 PM
^^^ that's probably what is making a lot of ensemble studio fans mad, including me. :(

Mr Buckshot
August 17th, 2011, 04:07 PM
I still haven't forgiven MS/Ensemble for causing the C&C Halogen mod to be shut down so that they could peddle their watered-down-for-console crap Halo Wars.

Anyways, tried it last night, wasn't particularly impressed, even for a free game. Would not recommend to anyone who already owns a well-renowned RTS, but that's just my opinion.

I'm still finding it fun, I can see myself getting bored with the quests, theres not many types really, kill all enemies, get a dude back to your base safely, survive for x amount of time etc.

By the way, screw elite mode..I had 100 dudes (anti-infantry) and they all died in about 15 seconds.
Also yes my empire is called England :D

You can just make a batch file that ends explorer while you're in-game, I use it at LAN parties:

Yea, elite mode is rough haha.

Also, the Egyptian quest line has a lot more diverse of quests. I prefer the Greeks for PvP, but the Egyptian quests are a lot more fun to me :D.

Also, PvP unlocks at level 5. You have to complete the quest "Have Ambassador Will Travel" (aka talk to the ambassador) and then he'll take you to the "Sparta PVP" region. The big fancy building in the middle is the Matchmaking arena. Free players can compete in unranked PvP matches (aka just not on the leaderboards.)

I thought Halo Wars was a great game, even if it was just a simple console RTS. The story was good and I've spent hours on the skirmishes alone.

I play this game as well, occasionally. I'm level 9 or something atm, it's pretty fun!
Though I dare not participate in PvP with my non-premium greek civ. I just enjoy single player, I like building up a nice walled camp and stuff.

I would probably buy a premium civ if it wasn't that expensive. For me 5 euros is more than reasonable for one civ.

Amit
September 4th, 2011, 12:13 AM
I'm playing it A LOT because my cousin forced me into. Greeks, level 13. This is one of the worst games I've ever played that is free without micro-transactions. Almost everything in the game requires premium content. The only way to get that is to make a major-transaction and purchase a premium civilization pack for $20 each. You only get a maximum of 28 inventory slots as a F2P player for stuff, yet you'll end up with a bunch of premium stuff that you cannot trade, sell, or destroy so they are permanently stuck in your inventory. People freak out and end up buying the premium. That inventory space panic got sooo many people. I won't fall for that bullshit trap though. $20 for a single civilization? What the fuck are you smoking Microsoft? 4 civilizations for $20 each and you're not getting much more than $10 worth for each faction? This is some Activision level bullshit.

Quests are pretty fun, but many of them are bugged not to register completion for certain objectives. More often than not there are bugs where you need to kill/destroy objectives in a certain order before every objective will be registered. This is frustrating as you can end up redoing a mission 4 times just to have it not complete properly. On average I spend about 20 minutes in each mission building up my economy and army. To have a quest fail me 4 times in a row is unacceptable since I lose over an hour of my precious time. AI is retarded easy or they're retarded hard (attack your base right off the bat when you have nothing except 5 villagers). There are MAJOR issues with the game, but I'm still playing it. There are some really nice points about the game, like being able to build and customize your own city with buildings and decorations. The problem is that 80% of the content in the game is only available to premium players. Basically AoE Online is just a really good Demo of what you'll get if you purchase a premium civilization. I just don't see the value in it.

TM_updates
September 4th, 2011, 06:47 AM
Yeah the premium content is overpriced. If you want the entire game (for the first six months) you pay 100 dollars.
Essentially that'll get you 4 civilisations and some game modes. I also don't really see what's so "MMO" about it.

This is that Homer Assassination mission. That was the one that bugged out 4 times on me. Also, I have no idea why there are friendly AI on this map. All they do is take up resources and do jack shit to help.

It left me wanting more as in more explanation to its use of the term "Shield World" and the explanation of Mark IV Spartans having energy shields...among other things. General game play WAS quite enjoyable, but I nitpick at story.

Didn't they say that the energy shields was merely for gameplay and didn't represent the actual canon of the universe? I swear I remember reading that somewhere.

BUMP: so this game has changed a lot over the past few months, I'd definately recommend giving it a look again :P

Also, currently the Skirmish Pack is free to "download"/unlock.

http://mktplassets.xbox.com/NR/rdonlyres/3EC8970E-6BA7-4C66-82AD-EB9EBC5ADCAC/0/cboxaoeo04.jpg<------ click me.

^^To unlock the Skirmish Pack for free. :D

It's a pretty neat addition, 2v4 co-op mode. You choose what AI you play against and where. You choose starting resources/mapresources/victory conditions and stuff like that. Soon they should be putting out a 4v4 co-op mode for the Skirmish (upgrading the 2v4 version) and when that happens they're going to start charging for it, so if you have any interest in all in the game, grab the DLC now for free :D

Also, I'm not on the project anymore. I've been off of it since mid December :P.

EDIT: Also, if you have problems having the site accept you downloading the content, tell it to download it with Microsoft Points, rather than your credit card. It's $0.00, and so it was having problems charging that to my card I guess.... I dunno, when I used the 0 MSP it worked.

Fuck AoE Online. I stopped wasting my time with that gayfest in the summer. Just get AoE3 on Steam when it goes on sale. I bought it for half price when it was officially launched on Steam at the beginning of January. I play every day and I don't have to pay premiums to use all the game's content and access essential RTS features like PvP.

Llama Juice
February 9th, 2012, 06:57 AM
@Nero, I was a tester on the game. I'm no longer working on that game. I just felt that was needed to include, 'cause I was promoting it before as the game I'm working on, now even though I'm not working on that game/project anymore, I still feel as if I should promote it. It has good content now, so I feel that it's worth a second look now.
