View Full Version : server crashes (possible hack attempt?)

I noticed that my {XG} servers are crashing at the same time, a few days ago they all crashed(gandanur and sapp) I also noticed that 3 out of the 6 sapp servers I host crashed today again(im using the latest build of sapp. which is considered stable)
I have found such events more often in the log files and thought it where just bugs in sapp/gandanur/haloceded.
But I find it suspicious that the servers crash at the same time.
Maybe someone found a new exploit which crashes servers, if so we should try to fix it but how do we find out what's exactly causing this?

Gandanur wise, was a crashdump created? Should be located in the same folder as your haloceded.exe. If so please ping me on Xfire.

Just because he calls it a stable build doesn't mean it really is. Sapp was never a stable server app and I doubt it ever will be.

Based on what I've read about SAPP, it is far from stable. It seems they use(d?) halo's network connection to do stuff, which isn't safe unless you have a functional proxy in the middle. The new developer seems quite new to assembly/reversing so (nothing against him), but he will probably introduce new bugs, making it less stable. Gandanur on the other hand is stable, but nothing's perfect. The real test would be testing if an unmodded server crashes.

The newer versions have never crashed when I was playing, and I play quite a lot. (unless its a buged map for example extinction and someone is glitching)

dude you going to blame your crashing on the log files?

Gandanur is crashing to, normal halo servers(1.09) crashed to.

is it truly an unedited executable file and strings?

hmm my gandanur server classic maps crashed 3 times in 45 min, and then I put it on sapp it crashed once after 30 minutes and then it became stable again.
I have data execution prevention enabled.
I wonder what's causing for these problems...
update: 1 hour ago my sapp and gandanur servers crashed again...

Hmm I figured out that halo is not always giving ports free after a crash, so nobody can join and server checker(the app that checks if my server is functioning correctly) also gets a bad response and restarts it.
I tried with and without server checker, server checker causes a reboot loop. and without the server just keeps running and no one can join.
Once I change the port everything works fine, also after a reboot everything works fine but when I wait 10 minutes and then use the same port again its still not working...
