n a form of total control over their product, Microsoft and EA have made it a requirement that when playing the recently released Crysis you have to be connected to the Xbox Live service.
If you are happily playing Crysis and Xbox Live goes down, or you have problems with your network, you're given 10 minutes (which counts down sending you messages at 1 minute intervals) to restore your connection. Failure to do so results in being given no choice but to go back to the Xbox dashboard. If you're wanting to boot up the game and you're offline, the game won't even launch.

I don't think there's much to say but it's worth knowing where gaming is headed!

Well, LIVE doesn't go down all that often, but who in god's name thought it was a good idea to do this? Probably John Riccitiello.

I know one game I'm not buying.

LMAO! The only reason to play on a console is if you're somewhere without internet in the first place... This was bad on PC's, but consoles? Really?

What a non-sensical decision.

Were you thinking of those who don't always have an internet connection when you wrote this?

Have played my PS3 offline since June, don't really see how this would open any doors for anyone.

Who makes these decisions?

LOL at people not checking the updated post:

Update: It seems that this only occurs if you have downloaded the game on multiple consoles. The game will run offline if you're playing on the console that you originally downloaded the game onto. So if you do live in a household with multiple consoles, make sure they are all connected to Live to avoid this, especially if you're moving profiles around.

IIRC: content downloaded onto multiple consoles needed to be signed into live as it was, in fact the console DLC is originally installed on can be used by any profile yet on a second console you need the original gamertag signed in.

That's not really any better, especially given how liable 360's are to bricking themselves.

Honestly, no. I didn't think people played consoles anymore without LIVE. Stupid me.

That's where content licence exchange comes in use.
You can exchange the licence for DLC to another console.

I'm sorry but this isn't 2006. 360's aren't nearly as bad as they used to be.

You're actually defending this? It's a fucking console, you don't put DRM on consoles (you don't put bullshit DRM like that on anything).

I think what he's trying to say is that this isn't anything worse than the bullshit DRM the xbox already has.

There was a time where consoles weren't so easily modified allowing free access to premium content, the times have changed and compared to normal PC DRM this isn't any where near as bad.

Yeah, that was the n64/ps1 generation. If it's such a big deal, why has it taken so long for anybody to do anything about it/ And if it doesn't work, why force this crap on customers who want to pay you money.

The xbox Games on demand needs some sort of system to know who purchased what.
If it didn't then people could just share their gamertags download the game and use any which old gametag on a large number of consoles, that would be akin to the modded xboxes back in the Halo 2 era, you could install the games directly to the HDD using modded dashboards like Evo-X, Microsoft are probably trying to avoid that.

So they don't want people to share their games? Why sell retail at all :S

So hold on. Is XLIVE and PSN the only way to get the game other than having a friend transfer their install to your box? If so, I don't see the problem since you'd have to be connected to the respective service to buy and download the game anyways.

well you connect to download it, and then what if you wanna play it when youre offline? what if you have one ethernet cable that you also share with a computer? what if your internet or xbl goes down? its just unnecessary. 4J's perfect dark remake on XBLA doesnt require an internet connection, so why should this?

Way to miss it entirely.
you download the game off of Xbox live to your console, from there on you can play it online or off or which ever profile on that console.
How ever if you were to recover your gamertag on a friends xbox and download it, the gamertag it was originally downloaded from must be the one signed in.
How is this so hard to understand?

i get how it works, and i understand how crysis handles it. i was just speaking to that idea of having to have an internet connection to play a downloaded game in general. it really isnt necessary to insult my intelligence.
