Whats are your thoughts on the trailer?

I gotta say, I'm not too impressed, it doesnt feel like a GTA game, the main guy has a regular feel to him, GTA main characters are never regular.

Has more of a Saints Row feel to it, anyone else agree? Characters look too plasticy as well, The Sims like.

Game is looking good. Can't wait to get back into San Andreas again (and planes...they gotta have planes...since this isn't a NYC knock off). I wonder if Vice City will be the setting of #6 heh.

Anyway, looks pretty good. I'm happy to see that they're bringing planes back, cause those were always fun to fly in San Andreas.

I'm throwing this out there - I think release date of 24th May 2012 judging by the trailer...anyone else agree?

Direct link korn? I watched it on the homepage, also this is a direct link: http://videos.rockstargames.com/streams/V-en_us-trailer1-wmv-1280.wmv

License plates say October though :O, anyone else think main guy sounds like Tommy Vercetti?

Kornman00
November 2nd, 2011, 12:01 PM
That doesn't sound anything like Tommy. No hint of Northeastern in his voice.

The fact that the plates say October on them may just be when the video was recorded (Oct 2012 would suggest the license was last updated in Oct 2011). Not sure what part of the trailer made you think May 24th.

So a jet flys by at the end, I'm pretty sure that's a good hint about having planes this time around. Oh and Jet-skis. And convertibles that can put the hood up/down. Yep, the game is looking great.

Rockstar North's recent releases have all been around the May/June time. They feel they don't need to release near the Christmas hype time, so May makes sense. Its also referenced in the trailer.

YESSS. I've been itching for some fucking real planes after they cut them out of GTA4. I play a heavily modded (Military and Aircraft based) San Andreas install about once a week for nostalgia :D

And GTA doesn't need strategic releasing. It's fucking GTA, people will buy the fuck out of it. GTAIV was released in April 2007, btw.

Thing is, R* as a whole already has Max Payne 3 lined up for May '12; I doubt they'd launch both heavy-hitters within the same couple of months and risk people only buying one because they can't afford both in the same narrow window. I'd put my guess toward either Fall/Winter '12 or Spring '13.

As for the game, I seem to be the only one who actually liked the more grounded and (relatively) serious direction GTA IV took; the staggering amount of detail and attention paid both to the city and its inhabitants has yet to be matched by anything other than R*'s own Red Dead Redemption imo, and fusing it with a narrative that actually has some depth, weight, and complexity turned it into my definite GOTY and one of my top three or four this generation. I can't help but feel that if they take some of that away and revert to the overall wackiness of San Andreas, contriving crazy excuses for you to do things like missions in fighter jets, it'd be something of a step back (especially since we now have Saints Row for cock-headedly-insane sandbox crime games). Not that I'd discourage them from adding all kinds of new distractions, vehicles, and content, of course; the coolest thing about SA was just how much stuff there was, and now that R* isn't bound by having to craft an entirely new next-gen engine for this one, I can't see them doing anything but that.

Of course it could just be me being haughty and avant-garde but hey what can I say

(oh and look at that moment in the trailer where the two ladies check out the shirtless dude running down the street; if that's not a scripted thing, and is instead improved AI technology at work, I may have to spend my first couple of hours with the game just standing on the street and watching people, because that kind of detail is bonkers)

E: Amit, sorry about being pedantic but it was April 2008; it was originally scheduled for Fall '07 but got delayed

Some people that had worked on an MP engine for SA were also trying one for JustCause2. I tried contacting them too see if I could pick it for them (JC2 is awesome, multiplayer would have been stellar), but never heard back. If I would have heard back from them, I would have got into modding that game. Did a bunch of reverse engineering for it, but stopped since the community was pretty much dry.

I still think the guy in the suit is Tommy Vercetti, its pretty good resemblance.

Recent Rockstar games have been released around 6 - 7 months after announcement, that would put May in the timezone.

I also think the guy running from the helicopter/police is an updated CJ from SA.

Furthering my thought on 24th May 2012 release date, I dont think its just a coincidence the guy is hammering a sign that says FOR SALE, in the same frame as that curb number (2405). You also need to remember its being developed by R* North, who use the proper time format (DD/MM/YYYY).

Also for those of you who are eagle eyed you would have spotted that the guy in the suit, is one of the robbers of the jewelry shop.

Heres a bit of trivia, the song in the video was released 24th May 1968.

Also:
8 x 3 = 24
8 - 3 = 5

Bonus for person who works out where in trailer that is, heres a hint - theres flags in the background.

LA Observatory is in Los Santos by the way.

Tommy Vercetti also says he is moving somewhere at the end of VC, perhaps he moved to SA.

If that damn hispanic woman from San Andreas is back, I'm burning the disk. That character is the reason I STILL can't bring myself to put the disc back in my PS2/PS3 and finish the game.

It's a crying shame, because the rest of the game is fantastic. It's definitely my second favorite in the series, in addition to having the best soundtrack of any sandbox game I've ever played.

I'll wait for good mods to appear on the PC first.

Since GTA3, I've been installing shitloads of mods on all my GTA games, mostly real-life cars, and I just can't imagine myself doing without them. The only GTA game I've played without modding is Chinatown wars on the DS. In fact, modding was what made me stick with the PC version of GTA4 despite the GFWL and other crap.

speaking of Chinatown Wars, I loved the police chase mechanics and the drug dealing system (as wrong as it sounds) and the online Ammu-Nation. Those are features I really want to see in the "full blown" version of GTA. The police chase mechanics make car chases far more intense and epic. The drug dealing system is an addictive way to earn $$$ and also encourages me to explore. The online Ammu-Nation delivery is just uber convenient. Hell, I'd buy a remake of Chinatown Wars using whatever the latest GTA engine is.

as for the trailer, I couldn't help but notice that proper randomized license plates were present on the cars.

Also, I'd like cheats to be easier to enter, instead of through the cell phone, so that my random boredom-killing rampages can last as long as in GTA3. Don't lie, I know you've all at some point loaded up a few cheat codes in GTA and gone blasting away.

Sorry, but the real proper time format is YYYY/MM/DD, hth~

Also, GTA4 is available on Steam. I have it, but I forget, does the Steam version still use G4WL?

Sadly yes. If you make an offline profile for GTA4, do NOT use it to try the multiplayer. It'll switch into an online profile with the added benefit of fucking up all your game saves.

Nevertheless, the ability to add real-life cars is what keeps me playing.

Yeah, GTA IV on Steam uses GFWL. I know because I started to play Episodes from LC at the beginning of summer. The writing and characterization is just way more obnoxious than I remember from playing the main game 3 years earlier. That's kind of scary, because that was one of the few things I felt positive about.

How are the faces looking? Everybody in GTA 4 had Ron Perlman mouth.

so yeah, absolutely will not buy this if it has GFWL integration unless somebody makes something to rip it out like they did with fallout 3 and GTAIV

Holy crap. I haven't had a problem with GFWL ever. I rather enjoy the achievements. Across H2V, Fallout, GTA IV, Batman, Dirt 2, Etc. I haven't ever had GFWL lock up my computer.

I hate to say it, but you guys must have some horrible systems, or some really old versions of GFWL to hate it so much.

I for one support GFWL 100% in GTA V

ejburke
November 2nd, 2011, 10:44 PM
They may have been contractually obligated to use GFWL, because MS funded the GTA IV DLC episodes. I don't think the DLC sold well enough for MS to want to do that again.

I've had issues with Fallout 3 and Bioshock 2, but not GTA IV, Red Faction Guerilla, or Halo 2. Implementations and stability seems to vary by game. With Fallout 3, I can't click directly on any buttons of the GFWL interface. I have to put my cursor to the right of anything I intend to click. To this day -- with all the Live client updates and game patches. Ridiculous.

I don't mind achievements and being connected to Live, though. And there's always the chance they might get their fucking shit together.

Mr Buckshot
November 2nd, 2011, 10:45 PM
GFWL never crashed my computer at all, or even crashed the game.

It just fucked around with my save files, that's all. And it still performs like bloatware - Origin is honestly the golden standard compared to GFWL. And it requires me to install a bunch of Windows Live bloatware (related to WLM or something), the shit I normally purge out of my PC when doing a fresh install.

LIVE can stay on the Xbox where it works well and people like it. It needs to GTFO from the PC, where most of us really don't like it.

As for achievements, Steam does them pretty well. But you don't even need an external client for achievements unless you really feel the need to show off to the world that you got those achievements. What's wrong with just having an in-game page to show achievements, separate from other programs? Think something like the "Challenges" screen in COD4. Personally, I don't care for achievements unless they're for things that need you to do something crazily fun and over-the-top, for example chainsawing the tank in L4D2.

ejburke
November 2nd, 2011, 10:57 PM
Achievements aren't about showing off, it's more like a scrap book. Game installs/saves are temporary, but achievements are always right there.

This is how my penis feels about Live achievements: ==========... (you get the idea, I don't need to draw a tip, do I?)

This is how my penis feels about Steam achievements:

I've had nothing but good times with GFWL. Unless it's a competitive multiplayer game that requires a proper matchmaking system (if at all) I see no problem with it. I don't know any games that have their save games tied to GFWL. In fact, I had switched my offline GTA4 account to a MP one and a whopping nothing happened to my save games. So it's just some of you guys having these issues. I really like the interface too. It makes me feel special. Not the mention I can troll my friends who are on XBOX LIVE.

Just discovered, the upcoming PC port of LA Noire, also a Rockstar game, isn't gonna use GFWL. Hallelujah! I hope the same applies to GTA5, and every future Rockstar PC game from now on.

As for optimizing it... I really hope they learned their lesson from the previous one. The Mafia 2 and Just Cause 2 engines are both much better looking and much better optimized.

Yeah, but Team Bondi is completely out of the picture, so some entity at Rockstar decided that GFWL wasn't the direction they wanted to go -- possibly the same entity that will decide GTA V PC's fate.

Like I said earlier, it probably all depends on whether MS wants to fund the DLC episodes. At that point, they can insist on GFWL, so they can sell the DLC on their own marketplace.

Even though I like achievements, it's really just reserved for games that I really, really like and really, really enjoy playing. GTA doesn't really qualify as that. If there wasn't an achievement for it, I would not have bothered with completing 100% and I would not be as burned out on the franchise as I am now.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1353074/rockstar_details_max_payne_3_crew_sizes_gta_5_feud s_rewards_and_more.html

Rockstar tells NowGamer how crews will work in both Max Payne 3 and GTA 5.

Published on May 3, 2012
Max Payne 3 and GTA 5 will both incorporate multiplayer crews containing "thousands of people," enabling large public and private groups to fight, feud and rival each other across both games, Rockstar has revealed to NowGamer.

"There are going to be two types of Crews – private crews that you and your friends can create and customise to your liking, and Rockstar-created crews that are open to everyone," Charlie Bewsher, Max Payne 3 Lead multiplayer designer told us.

"Private crews hold up to 250 members and public crews are unlimited, so thousands of people can join the same crew and start reaping the benefits."

Crews also benefit their members with in-game bonuses, Bewsher explained.

"There are also a range of in-game rewards and mechanics that impact crew cooperation –HUD identifiers, customisable emblems on in-game equipment for opponents to see, dedicated crew assist-style awards and the Crew feud mechanic to name a few.

This last one creates automatic feuds between different crews, to see which is the meanest! You may have read recently that we also announced that crews created in Max Payne 3, and any feuds you have going with other crews will be fully transferable into Grand Theft Auto V and beyond."
It sounds like Rockstar is designing the Crew system to accomodate further games after GTA 5 - as far as crews go, Bewsher added: "There’s a lot more that we haven’t talked about yet."

Sounds pretty cool, as a person whos getting both games its neat they are tying both in.

Vertical stabilizers and elevators look like F-35, though they bear a likeness to F/A-18 and F-16. The difference is subtle but there. Though with a better angle I could judge better... but when it comes down to it the F-35 looks like the bastard child of the 2.

The vertical stabilizers look pretty basic, like a more simplified F-16 vertical stabilizer. It's pretty hard to see that, and the elevators are almost not visible at all, so I guess we won't know for sure until more pictures are released. (http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/45951/grand-theft-auto-v-is-coming-spring-2013.html)
Today, we're proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V (http://www.rockstargames.com/V) is expected to launch worldwide spring 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V takes place in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California in the largest and most thriving game-world we have ever created set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and for miles beyond – from the tops of the mountains to the depths of the ocean.

Starting next week November 5, 2012, Grand Theft Auto V will become available for pre-order everywhere and fans can expect a host of new information to become available in November.

Look for downloadable desktop versions of the brand new artwork above coming very soon.

Hey guys, glad to see so much enthusiasm about the release announcement. For those asking about the PC platform, we're currently focused on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game and don't have any details to share about a PC version at this time. I really think this game would be on everyone's list if Rockstar wasn't so under-the-radar about it. You'd think they'd be advertising it more, but we barely hear a peep after a year.Rockstar never talk about the games at games conventions and they never show them off (like E3 or PAX for example). They are unique in that sense that, they reply on hype and any direct marketing they do. Which trust me, will ramp up to release.

Which I can understand. But I think they might be doing it a little too much this time. Remember when they would release just tiny snippets of stuff from GTA IV before it came out? Like the first teaser. People were foaming over the improved lighting and the RAGE engine. I just think they should do little stuff like that every once in awhile instead of a handful of screenshots after a year.

GTA 4 had quite a lot of publicity...

I think I know what you mean though, more teaser elements rather than a long wait and then a bit dump of info/trailers/screenshots etc.

GTA 5 is in the new addition of Game Informer. Lots of new information.

3 protagonists
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/6439/gtanf.jpg

You play as 3 people basically, with diverse stories and backgrounds, and over the game they come together and collaborate on certain missons. In these missions at certian points, you will be given the opportunity to select which char you want to use. So perhaps after cracking a safe in a bank job with char 1, you switch to char 2 whos at the main door just as police storm in and you can start the gun fight.

Heists
Dynamic Missions (you find a car broken down in the forest, you could simply drive past and ignore, or perhaps you try to help and that person then tries to rob you at gun point)
Scuba diving
More interactive pedestrians

After reading the article, I cannot wait for GTA 5. A bit more info (http://blog.gadgethelpline.com/gta-details/)

Surprised they're going back to San Andreas. Figured they'd revisit Vice City.
Dan Houser (top dude at Rockstar) has said that they felt they havent finished in the LA area. Even though they've done San Andreas, LA Noire and Midnight Club LA.

He also feels LA is such a diverse area which really suits a game as it provides different areas all within a somewhat small location. Although the new GTA is bigger than GTA 4, Red Dead Redemption and San Andreas combined. I would love to see Vice City again for sure, perhaps the next one?

Don't forget they had one of their offices flooded during Sandy.
Atleast Rockstar has the balls to delay so they do a decent job unlike some developers.

Even if you don't play through the story, just enjoy the nature of its sandbox environment. That's what I did with San Andreas since so many years later I couldn't bring myself to go through it. Same (Destiny doesn't count since I preordered it before GTA comes out :p). I got the new Splinter Cell, Saints Row, and Rocksmith on Steam. I gave up on Bandfuse. The fact that it's been delayed twice and is coming out in 'the fall' but there's no way to preorder yet doesn't give me any faith in the brand. So fuck that console only noise.

Depending on how fucking good GTA5 is, I may switch to PC when they release for it. If it's just a port though, I'll wait until a Steam sale (prob 2015).

Trevor is going to be my throwaway character. Franklin is black, so he's my go to gangsta. Michael is going to be my main (if the game allows it) because he looks like the main character. I think of him as an older Tommy Vercetti and the most important of the bunch. Of course once the mods start flowing it won't matter which one I'll be playing since I'll be changing the player models out for military-based ones.

I only played with the Option C ending so far. Was alright, felt nice to tie up those 'lose ends' that had been hanging the characters out

Also, either character has only 25% of the wealth (at the end) needed to buy the 150mil place...and you don't keep the money from replays (even when playing a heist a different way)...either they are serious about the ingame economy (fuck stocks) or they have some heist DLC in the works

Also, you can evade the cops by hiding in the bushes? Fucking. Awesome.

My bad, I assumed everyone and their mother had seen it on every news site reporting anything on GTA. Here's one of the images:

http://cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/601/601983.png

A guy on Reddit discovered a file from the store section of the GTAV menu (which is currently empty if you try and view it) that mentions something called "Cash Cards." This XML file mentions downloadable content from the game's special editions, as well as four "Cash Cards" ranging from $100,000 to $1,250,000.

Here's the description:

"Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online," reads a description of the cards. "All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting."

Kornman it's only the first day of the service. Aside from tons of technical/server issues that Rockstar has warned about already, the gameplay probably still needs tweaking and all that. That's funny, seeing as how they knew damn well how many individual units they sold plus had two weeks to gauge how many people would be ready for Online via R* social.

The analogy is a little bad, since 343i worked closely with Microsoft and already had Halo's own experience of servers and such to go off of.

Rockstar is, or as far as I know aside from that little minor GTA IV online thing, trying something a little more new. And given the ridiculous demand from some millions of players, anyone's servers would be crippled. They had to open MP sometime though and work on the real world situation rather than making assumptions and working off of those.

In a sense, it's a beta right now. I don't see why you would expect much.

So I spent 205k$ on an apartment

So I was told, after this, my progress would be automatically saved after going back into story mode

So I started a friends-only session from story mode to get away from fucktard randoms who can fuck off and fuck themselves

So apparently I never bought that apartment nor earned 205k$

This game needs a huge BETA sign.

Fixes an issue where the Character Switch Wheel would disappear after a failed load.
Fixes an issue where attempting to enter GTA Online via the Character Switch Wheel caused a black screen.
Fixes an issue where temporary characters were overwriting main characters.
Fixes an issue where players were losing apartments and the money they spent on them.
Fixes an issue that caused Story Mode missions to be missed in some instances.

Yeah, I've got "you were kicked by other players" a couple of times after coming back from a mission (smooth, R*, real smooth). REALLY shitty that it flushes you back into story mode. Really gets you pissed off when you're playing with friends. Makes you want to toss the game in the toilet.

I hate the comments of the NPCs in this game. I mean, why do they have to shame me for being sexually curious?! There's nothing wrong with sucking a couple of cocks in your lifetime. Hell, you give one guy head, just to see how it's like, and the world decides to hit you over the head with it until the end of time.

After the mission with the hijacking of the helicopter, the one you left that I passed, I drove my Granger into the back of a Titan and blew it up (totes accident). I called the insurance company and it had the option for both my Granger and my Dominator, so I got both because I thought the Dominator was also destroyed. Apparently it wasn't, so I got a second one. vOv

Rockstar is apparently still trying to fix their cloud problems (or whatever is causing items to get lost in the sauce). Just replay the story like me and save all your money until the very end, holding off on assassination missions so that you can bank it all on stock. That should hold you over until Online becomes mildly interesting again (stimulus, heists, new weapons, etc).

Buy all the clothes, vehicles, upgrades, ammo, car mods, properties. Have 5.8bil left. Leaving you with enough change to die a 1.1mil times (5k per death).

It'd be cool to fill an invite only server up with nothing but modacity & friends. We could have a rave in teekup's apartment, then all of us could hit the showers to get cleaned up before raiding the military base (which probably only two of us would survive, but hey. well, unless the 1v1 deathmatch bug still works)

But there's always a silver lining.

If only Rockstar listed all drivable vehicles as potentials in the garage. Some would finally be able to see their tourbuses and bulldozers.

I almost destroyed my GTA V disk last night. I had a wireless controller hooked up with the 'plug & play' cable and my cat clotheslined herself, taking the console with her. Disk got scratched up beyond playability, so I took it in for a quick cleaning this morning. All's good now. Maybe I'll even be able to play on my own console!

If I have one complaint anymore, it's Microsoft not doing the safety feature - the breakaway section for the cable - with the original Xbox's corded controllers on the Xbox 360 peripherals. Running critters and curious children can destroy your games and system! But that's a different topic for a different thread.

GTAO Heists, the new DNF? http://games.on.net/2014/06/gta-onlines-heists-delayed-taking-longer-to-create-than-anticipated/

I'm really curious as to what made them think, back when the trailer before the release was put out that online heists were a workable thing. And what has since made them realize that, 'damn, we need more time to make them work...more time than we thought after we initially thought about thinking about thoughts'

:\

Amit
June 21st, 2014, 02:39 AM
It would seem that a lack of forethinking got them to the position their in. What is so special about heists anyway? Makes the MP worthwhile?

Kornman00
June 21st, 2014, 02:35 PM
I take it you have not played the story?

If they do MP heists like story, then it will require multiple jobs/missions prior to the actual 'job' itself. Think of it sorta like Invasion. You do a couple of objectives to get to the main objective that you must get away with. However, you wouldn't do it all in one sitting.

Also, I didn't realilze until yesterday when I played the weekend event (2nd time ever doing so) that Job Points are actually used to gauge who wins a multi-job event/playlist. I just thought they were there to make people go "hmmmmmmuhhhhhhhokay". Obvious now when you realize the max points you ever get from a single job is 16, same as max players.
