When you swap yourself with an elite, why can't you melee like an elite?

Are you asking why the animation isn't the same? Not sure I understand.

Because you werent supposed to play as an elite in the first place and there's no stock assets to support it

If you're talking about first-person animations, here's how Halo's first-person view works:
The hands model is defined in the globals/globals.globals tag (no, I didn't stutter).
Each weapon has a model and animation graph for first-person view (in addition to the world [third-person] model and animations).
The FP animation graph is built to animate both the hands and the first-person weapon models.
As m00kz said, the game was built around playing as the Master Chief, so there are no assets in the game to make it look and feel like you're playing as an Elite. If you want to make the game look and feel like you're an Elite, then the task of modeling the hands, rigging them to bones, and animating each and every weapon's first-person animations falls on you.

With that attitude then I think you should not be here. Sorry, but the way you said it sounds like you do not like modding. Sorry if this is offensive.

So I can change my hands model for by swapping the globals?

....what? He's just saying that the game doesn't support the player playing as an Elite without making modifications to the animations and everything >.>
I don't get where you got the idea that he has a bad attitude and hates modding...

No, you'd need to make your own models and animations, which would be much easier to do if you were using Halo Custom Edition rather than just Halo PC.

You've been here a month. Relax and shut up. That wasn't the point of his post at all. You WEREN'T intended to play as an elite. That's why it requires hard work to make it run properly. Sorry if thats sad news for you, but I don't think you understand how much time most of the people on this site have dedicated to this game.

Dude, chill out. He was being a little bit harsh about it. You're taking me so seriously like I didn't know whats meant to be part of the game and what doesn't.

no he wasnt. not at all. he wasnt even blunt about it. youre the only one with a bad attitude here.
E: to clarify, elites were never intended to be player controlled. this is evidenced by the fact that there is a specific check box in the bipod tag thats something like "player control" or "uses player physics" or something like that. that allows omnidirectional movement. the elite does NOT have that box checked, which means you are stuck either strafing or moving straight forward or backward.
as for the melee, there simply are not animations for it. the 3RD PERSON elite has the melee animations, and you may have noticed how there is a delay in the time you press the button and the time the elite actually melees. this is because youre stuck using the 3rd person animations for the elite. the FIRST PERSON looks like the chief's hands for the reason polar bear stated. fp animations and 3p animations are basically completely separate as far as the engine is concerned
hope that helped. nobody here is out to get you.

He wasn't being harsh. He simply said that the game was only intended to be played from the point of view of the Master Chief, no one else. That's why Bungie didn't set up first person models for anything other than the Chief.
You're taking me so seriously like I didn't know whats meant to be part of the game and what doesn't.
Truthfully, everyone here is meant to be taken seriously, but when one such as yourself goes about making wild accusations based on the way you interpret another's response, people will jump on you about it. I've made that mistake a couple of times, it's true, but really, just read the text for what it is. Unless he starts calling you names or begins trashing on your mother you should just relax and reply with the intention of continuing the original discussion.

Um, not really. I would have responded with the same type of answer. You asked a question of why the elite 3rd person melee animations can't be used in a first person perspective. He answered with a logical and correct answer. It's because the designers intent wasn't to let you play as an elite in first person, only as the chief. So why would the developers waste their time to make a first person animation for the elite melee if it isn't going to be used? You can try and swap the third person animation and play in 3rd person mode. I think that would work.

Look, I'm sorry. I was in a hyper mood when I posted that. Just calm down. I already know that elites are not meant to be playable in Halo 1, but I just asked why it was not possible when you mod.

You can download the third person view on halomaps.org. But I'm not sure how to swap the animations. I think if you go into guerilla and mess with the cyborg.model.animations tag and swap the original cyborg 3rd person melee animations with the Elites, you should be able to get it to work. I know its possible in 3rd person to swap the animations, but I don't know how.

I believe that he's doing this in Halo: PC, rather than Halo: Custom Edition (http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=410). Still, either way, the melee animation should be activated by proximity to the opponent. I've done some bump_possession before and discovered that if the target is simply in front of you, the elite will melee. I'm not sure if the melee works only when attacking the Chief or if you can attempt a strike on the Marines. You obviously won't get a first person animation, but you should see the screen kind of take over and lurch forward.

If you're modding Halo PC, then you could change the FP hands reference in the globals, but there are no other hand models to exchange for.
And sorry to flog a dead horse, but I'm not the only one who'd say that m00kz is probably a little TOO into Halo modding...

Assets are assets, regardless of subject matter.
Besides.. technically they aren't furry as they aren't really based on any existing animal. They're more like humanoid monsters.. like the Skaarj or the Krall or something. :downs:

In terms of the original thread, you would be required to model/rig up/animate a set of FP arms that used the Elite's model if you wanted something like that to exist. There are a few premade ones over at Halomaps.org that might help you get the desired effect without doing a lot of other work.
