View Full Version : Issue after PMI'ing AI

Today, I PMI'ed an elite major with a needler into the Pillar of Autumn with eschaton and swapped it with the marine_armored major tag on HMT.
However, the first cutscene plays the first 3 seconds of it before it minimizes Halo and pops open 'gathering exception data'. I can only bypass this by skipping the cutscene.
I'm guessing this has something to do with scripts and the elite major I PMI'ed into the map.
Note: I know that there were already an elite major in the first level. But I had to PMI another one because of issues trying to turn some of the grunts into elites.

Like I said earlier, HMT (and all hpc modding) is a destructive process to the map file. You should use CE, you'll be able to do much more and people there will actually be able to help you.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I'll whether stick with Halo PC because its easier to mod than CE.

What? Nonononono you are totally wrong here my friend. HPC is not nearly as easy to mod as Custom Edition. Why? Because CE actually allows you to see what you're doing. In HPC, everything is all cluttered. In HCE, your palette is right in front of you and Guerilla is probably the easiest editing software you'll ever use.

CE requires a few more steps than PC, but it's far more rewarding. If you want good feedback, the first step is to not take the easy route.

But Guerilla likes to crash everytime I open it. Plus, I don't think you can swap/edit metas on Custom Edition, I don't even know how to open a map.

You don't edit the maps in Custom Edition. You edit the scenario files. If you browse through our limitless supply of handy and helpful tutorials (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?18957-The-Ultimate-Halo-CE-Tutorial-Index), you may find the droids you are looking for.

That's the thing. You don't want to swap metas.
There are so few people PC modding left it's better to just learn CE. You can use harbinger to convert the maps afterwards if you want. However, if you're determined to mod PC, there are a lot more pc tuts at modhalo.net/the old halomods backups.

You would be better served using HHT V5 to make changes rather than swapping the Meta.
If you swap the MODE, ANTR and COLL in the drop down menu it is a lot cleaner that just copying over existing meta files.
It also allows to swap back if there any errors.

Why swap/edit a meta when you can freely put things into and remove things from a scenario? PC editing is limited as hell and there's not much useful that can be learned from it that you wouldn't learn while doing things for CE... unless, of course, you're actually picking the map apart in a hex editor.
Sorry if we're not giving you the answers you're looking for, but around here, editing PC maps with HMT is sort of a lost art. What are you doing, exactly, when Guerilla crashes, anyway?

Well, it's not Guerilla crashing. It's Sapein which closes immediately after I open it. I changed the CPU, but still did not work.

That could be a number of things. In your Halo CE folder there's a file called debug.txt (or is it debug.log? It's been a while...). Scroll down to the bottom and post the last big block of text here.
