It will be on Steam for sure - whether it'll use Steamworks is yet to be known.

It'll be including the 360 version's two DLCs free of charge. I'm excited - but one thing's for sure, if they slap on GFWL, they've lost a sale from me.

Anyways, who's hyped now? Anyone here already play it on 360?

GFWL = no buy

Agreed, but no official confirmation is out yet. But given how many former GFWL adopters have ditched it after backlash, i.e. Bethesda and 2K, the devs might just do the right thing.

I'm not against the concept of GFWL as a whole - it's just that the technical problems stand out too much, and MS absolutely refuses to do anything about it. No one's going to care about achievements or the ability to interact with 360 players when they can't even play their game properly.

We all know that the true purpose of GFWL is to try and set up PC multiplayer gaming as a subscription service like Xbox Live. They tried to go straight to it when it launched with H2V, but there was a massive backlash. Now they are either trying to turn PC players off to force them to the Xbox, or they are trying to gain mindshare so they can stab us in the back later.

Either way, fuck GFWL.

Doesn't Windows 8 integrate GFWL? :(

Nobody who likes to have full control of their computer will be using Windows 8. Windows 7 is the new Windows XP.

I have this on my xbox, I should actually finish it some time.

Rock Paper Shotgun interview on this. (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/12/14/alan-wake-pc-preview/#more-85982)

Highlights:

RPS: Will there be Steamworks integration?
Aki Järvilehto: Yes, it will.

RPS: Will there be any new content?
Aki Järvilehto: No, it’s a one-to-one match. Obviously, there’s a lot of things we’re doing in terms of adapting the game, the gameplay, the controller, to make it different.

RPS: [The DLC] won’t be included in the PC version for free?
Aki Järvilehto: We have to see. We haven’t decided about that.

RPS: So it will support PC-grade textures and the latest DirectX?
Aki Järvilehto: The experience of running it on a high-end PC, with a ninja set-up, is such a big difference. On a large display, on a high-end PC, it looks gorgeous.

that last one on the graphics is funny because you can tell it was just a really dodgy way of saying "no"

Wait, so they decided only a few hours after their official announcement that it would be Steamworks?

Glad it's coming to the PC. I refused to play it on the Xbox and was praying it would come to the PC someday. Too bad the tech is like 6 years too late though!

So...6 years later they are released the once hyped horror novel as a video game for the intended platform. Good job. And don't kid yourselves, the DLC will be paid. This is Microsoft we're talking about here.

Damn, I could have sworn I saw someone saying that the DLCs would be free, but the RPS interview implies it could be otherwise.

e: nvm, misunderstood, it said "The PC release will also include both DLC's, The Signal and The Writer!"

So it means they will have the DLC available on PC, but not necessarily for free.

In case anyone was still concerned, AWPC confirmed for not having GFWL (http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/17/alan-wake-to-be-self-published-by-remedy-will-use-steamworks-not-gfwl/). It's also being self-published by Remedy, meaning Microsoft is entirely uninvolved with the port.

There's hope yet

Bump.

Alan Wake will release on Feb 16 (THIS THURSDAY OMG) for $29.99 on steam, with the DLCs included.

(http://www.gamefront.com/alan-wake-hits-pc-on-feb-16-with-amped-graphics-3-d-support/)And as previously mentioned, Remedy is self publishing the game and will use Steamworks and not GFWL.

I borrowed the game way back on the 360, but never got a chance to play the DLCs, so I'm picking this up for sure (also I'm looking forward most to playing with the keyboard and mouse on high settings).

Downloading for sure...on Steam.
