North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has died at the age of 69, state-run television has announced.
Mr Kim, who has led the communist nation since the death of his father in 1994, died on a train while visiting an area outside the capital, the announcement said.

Apparently asian stock markets plummeted after the news came out. Anybody know if his kid is more or less batshit than he was?

(What will KESPA do now without its glorious leader??)

i'm a bit apprehensive about this tbh.

while the man was filth and deserved to die painfully.... from what i've heard his son isn't ready to take over the buisness of brainwashing hte mass's.

can you imagine the problems of a Korean Civil war.... when the country suddenly realize's they've been lied too and manipulated adn that they're actually dirt poor..... China backs NK and we back SK....

the way i'm seeing it is unless his son keeps shit together, we could have another berlin wall on our hands.

His son is so inexperienced he is going to...oh wait he already did. (http://rt.com/news/north-korea-missile-test-143/)

Obvious countries are going to find some reason to infiltrate and he will end just like Gaddafi.

Bod, Korea is already in a civil war, the war was never actually ended.
There's only a ceasefire but that's it.
I suppose this is why koreans are so fucking obsessed with Starcraft, what better way to play generals with armies and eradicating your enemy than to pretend in starcraft and then try it in real life:neckbeard:

If they do try a copy paste Starcraft tactic I hope they don't have to fall back on base defenses. I don't think I've ever seen a professional Starcraft player build base defenses.

So, about that missile.

Pyongyang's neighbours are on alert amid fears of instability in the poor and isolated nuclear-armed nation.

Fears were compounded by unconfirmed reports from South Korean news agency Yonhap that the North had test-fired a missile off its eastern coast before the announcement of Kim Jong-il's death was made.

Unnamed government officials in Seoul were quoted as saying they did not believe the launch was linked to the announcement. The South Korean defence ministry has declined to comment.

I'm expecting shit to splatter across the Pacific.

China backs NK because they always have. If Pyongyang actually did anything, they'd find themselves up shit creek without even a fucking boat.

Yay the thread re-opened :D

IMO I don't really think anything will change anytime soon. I don't see his son as staying in power for very long unless he goes around slaughtering his possible political opponents Stalin style. Then again, that's just an outsider's opinion. They could have all pledged allegiance and kissed his rings already.

He's the grandson of their Eternal leader, I've no doubt they've already pledged allegiances.

When I first heard Kim was dead, I was overcome with happiness. Then I found out it was Kim Jong Il, not Kim Kardashian. The happiness has faded somewhat.

SOUTH KOREA, ATTACK NAOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the last thing south korea wants is reunification. the reunification of germany economically ruted them, and e. germany was one of the poster children of the combloc. south korea has a pretty good thing going right now and reunifying with probably one of the worst countries on earth, filled to the brim with starving, brainwashed people, would destroy it.

nothing will change until such time as fatty pisses off his generals. that may or may not even happen, but if it does you can expect a coup and then possibly the generals trying to warm a bit to the west on account of not wanting to have their shit pushed in. then again they may all be as brainwashed as everyone else so i don't know.

I was watching a documentary last night on the stuff going on in NK.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the generals believed their own propaganda.
I mean there was one guy who defected, he was originally a guard at the DMZ and someone made the mistake of sending a message across the border a few minutes too early and that the security was coming to arrest everyone in the outpost.
One guard died trying to get under the electric fences and the one who escaped his entire family was sent to Camp 22. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_22)

Finally found this doco I started watching a few years ago:
http://www.vice.com/the-vice-guide-to-travel/vice-guide-to-north-korea-1-of-3

The guy goes through the process of legally(ish) getting into NK and then gets the government approved tour of the country. It's pretty surreal.

I saw the same story in a National Geographic doc. If everyone in that movie is like everyone in NK, the country is doomed.

I totally forgot I had itunes playing when I went to go watch that. I put my head phones on and heard Rush's Freewill playing over the mass crying and was like...'oh Germany'.

That's one major case of Stockholm syndrome.
