View Full Version : Halo CE/PC Extreme Multiplayer lag across all servers

I don't know why, or how, but almost every single server I ever play on now is extremely laggy, on both CE or PC. Very rarely will find a server that is not extremely glitching out on me or lagging to no end - and yet, its only for me, as everyone else on the server seems to be doing fine. I've only had a few servers actually not do this for me, one being the Modacity Hive server on Immure.

This is reallllly getting on my nerves, especially that I've been trying to get a bit back in multiplayer. Does anyone know why this might be occuring and how to fix it? I'll reinstall my Halo(s) if needed, but I'm not sure if thats really whats wrong.

only things i can think of.
1. map files may be damaged.
2. you need better internet maybe/your internet is capped.
3. FPS lag from malfunctioning hardware/bad ram/cpu is overloading? you might need to check your drivers make sure they are updated.
4. Running any external applications that might modify your game and causing issues.
5. A virus maybe? have you tried other games?
6. if its a laptop maybe its over heating?

Some trouble shooting ideas
try on another pc.
try restarting pc/updating/reset your router
try other games see if its just halo.

these are some ideas that i have. more information would be helpful. But thats all i got for now

Rams higuy -derp-, does this occur at only certain times of day, or always?

Is your ping in game displayed higher than all the other players?

Does your ping vary greatly (jumping from like 66 to 200 then down to 33 and up to 133)?

You should try doing a traceroute on the IP of any server you're having problems with. If you're having these issues across multiple servers, it could be a problem with your ISP's routing.

I am not Rams...

...anyway, my ping is actually always displaying a stable ping around 60ms, which is what I find odd. Forgot to say that in there.

I did infact get new internet a while ago (upgraded to comast high-speed whatever it is; i get like 1mb/s on downloads), maybe thats part of it?

If you switched providers than you're probably on different routing like jcap said. This should of happened as soon as you switched to the new ISP though.

packet loss is also a possibility

How would I go about fixing my ISP's routing?

Did you try to traceroute to any of the Halo CE server IP addresses to see results? Traceroute narrows issues down better than the ping command.

Open CMD and type:

tracert x.x.x.x

x.x.x.x is IP address.

Although, I'm not sure if people will filter ICMP requests. So if you get a response, great. If you don't, try other servers.

Post your results or summarize it for us.

You cannot fix your ISP's routing, if that ends up being your problem then you'll have to call them and complain about it. That said, there's little they can do about it.
