View Full Version : Issues Installing HEK+

I'm trying to install HEK+ (and Guerilla Hacked, for that matter) and it tells me I need .NET 1.1.4332 and won't let me proceed any further. I have .NET 4.0 installed, and I'm wondering if there is any way for me to use HEK+ without first removing .NET 4.0 and installing .NET 1.1. I'm using Windows XP Professional 32-bit, if that helps.
My searches didn't yield anything useful. Thanks in advance.

You'll need to install .NET 1.1 and run any updates in order to use it. .NET is versioning aware, so you shouldn't need to uninstall 4.0 first.

If you do that, it will allow you to run HEK+ on 7 as well?

I wasn't aware there were W7 issues. Of course, I didn't develop HEK+ either.

Yeah, I get non-responsive issues every time I try to use it. I have switched my compatibility, I have turned down to 7 basic etc. and I cannot get it to work for me. Maybe I am alone though...

Did you tell it to disable desktop compositions in the Compatibility tab? That's all you should need to do.
As for .NET, I've tried running the .NET 1.1 installer, and it's giving me an error saying, essentially, that a newer version is already present. Looks like I'll need to remove .NET 4.0 anyways.

Wow Thanks for the Help, I had the same problem with my HEK+ where it would freeze sometimes and I disabled the desktop compositions and now it works fine :D

Side note: HEK+ won't work in Windows 8 (at least in the dev preview anyway), Microsoft decided that "Windows 8 now requires that Desktop Composition be enabled at all times."

That's fucking retarded. Before you know it, those without access to legacy Windows only be able to use WINE to run HEK...

Sorry, but if microsoft has their way then you can't do that either. Microsoft wants any computer that is labeled "Made for Windows 8" to have specialize chips, that only allow microsoft signed operating systems.. This means, you will not EVER be able to go to a operating system lower than W8, as well as any non-microsoft OS. Everything would have to be run in VM's, and I'm sure microsoft will have something to say about that too... I could sit here ranting about the stupidity of W8, or you can google it up yourself (PS, bootloaders not at boot anymore, its AFTER booting the OS. So if you want a different OS, then too bad, you gotta wait for it to shutdown and restart again. Say goodbye to safemode.)

They won't bother trying to make legacy software (HEK) incompatible with Linux WINE, and they have no say at all what people do to WINE, which will eventually get good enough to run HEK without issue. It can already run Halo just fine.

I don't really understand why we need Windows 8. Windows 7 is great, and runs better than any OS I have ever used. Computer tech is slowing down. We don't have the massive hardware upgrades available like we did when people switched from XP. Why fuck up a good thing?

Did you even read what I said? Microsoft is trying to force all PC manufacturer to ONLY allow Windows operating systems (8 or newer) on their PCs via hardware locks. People would be UNABLE to run linux, meaning they couldn't run WINE.
Also, WINE runs HEK fine, it just doesn't run OS correctly (not ingame, or in HEK)

It's a little tricky to force people who have such a varied configuration for their systems to fit to one scheme.
It might work in future hardware but it would take a very long time to cycle all the old hardware out.
Some people are still using Win 98SE.

Depends on what version of the OS your using.

Kirby:
1. You brought up a point that had nothing to do with what I was talking about.
2. I was talking about legacy Windows and the people who don't own it...what does that have to do with Windows 8?
3. Locked bootloaders are for the ARM version of Windows 8, not the x86-64 one, so I don't see that it matters much when Halo and the HEK are x86 software.

4. Where there's a will there's a hack.

Those "Made for Windows 8" computers will be OEM pieces of shit, they won't be able to convince the primary manufacturers to lock out certain OS's (talking about people like Intel, Gigabyte, Asus, Nvidia, AMD, Etc).
