View Full Version : HCE OpenSauce needs a new logo

OpenSauce needs a new logo, at least for the Google Project page (http://code.google.com/p/open-sauce/). Any interested artists (m00k)?

Google's specs say "The image file should be in PNG, JPG or GIF format and a maximum of 153 x 55 pixels. Larger images will be scaled automatically."

I was thinking of a jar, which has its lid off and leaning on the jar (on the side). Kinda like how they did this (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v1/425184915/PET_easy_open_jar.jpg). Except 2D and such. That's the goal I have in mind, but I'm open to the artist's ideas as well. If there's any text, keep it simple ("OS") or at least make use of existing areas. Like having a label on the lid that reads "Open" and then have a label on the jar that reads "Sauce". You get the idea.

Credit for our new logo will be posted on the project's front page.

Hey, you don't have to be a programmer to contribute to OS for once, rejoice! :p

I really like these but put the "sauce" as a label on the jar itself. Words on the cap don't look right.

Limited, it may be Firefox messing up, but I swear all three of those are exact same...

limited, make the "sauce" text curve with the jar. looks flat.

Old man, put your glasses on! Alright fair enough the differences are very minor.

#1 The top of the sauce is a darker brown than the sauce colour
#2 The top of the sauce is a lighter brown than the colour
#3 Same as #2 but the top of the jar, is slightly smaller to fit the rest of the shape.

Text is warped, also moved the label up a fraction to give a bit of space.

Have a magician casting a "open sauce" spell on a jar.
A jar with no lid just does not say open sauce for me, it needs something else imo.

What if the lid was opened at an angle at the top of the jar? Kinda like how soup cans have those peelable tops (but just continue to use the lid)

So as if an invisible hand was in the process of opening and removing the lid from the jar

I do think a hand with a magic wand, limited's jar with the lid floating just above and slightly to the side, and magical sparkles around the lid , tapering and fading back toward the top of the jar to show movement. ie. open saucemie.

At that point the logo wouldn't be so simple (which is an issue with the size constraints). Plus, a throwing magic reference in there just seems...out of place. If anything besides a jar and actual sauce were to be added, it would have to be code related, as that's what the name is a play on, open source.

Indeed the size and detail would be an issue there.
My vote so far then would go to this

Any possibility of adding a few threads on top of the jar Limited?

that lid looks like a coin...

By threads I assume you mean the lips inside a cap that are used to grip the jar.

I'll make a few versions tomorrow. I agree lid doesn't look like a lid, colours are off too, me and colour choosing do not go well.

Edit:

Just tried something new as a test

Check out my wicked graphics skillz.

It would be nice if whatever logo comes out of this would also nicely suit the installer images (and maybe the icon but thats more restrictive in its size):

Personally I think clean, vector art in shades of grey would look quite smart :).

Personally I think clean, vector art in shades of grey would look quite smart :).I agree, I think a slick, clean/simple logo would look best. The trouble with Korn's request is it limits greatly the approach to the problem, dimensions.

This kind of thing:
