Two congressmen have introduced a bill that would require almost all video games to feature a warning label concerning exposure to violent games, similar to the health warnings on tobacco products.

Called the Violence in Video Games Labeling Act (H.R. 4204, PDF link (http://thehill.com/images/stories/blogs/flooraction/jan2012/hr4204.pdf)), the bipartisan bill seeks to label games in the U.S. with a message that reads "WARNING: Exposure to violent video games has been linked to aggressive behavior" on their packaging (or in another clear and conspicuous location, if distributed digitally).

smh

Good followup:

Politicians should also come with warning labels.

Warning: Exposure to politicians has been linked to wasting of tax-payer money

Sounds like some retarded politicians who probably havent even touched a video game in their life.

And yeah, thats a great followup. I doubt this will get far.

Except, as far as I know, exposure to violent video games has not been linked to aggressive behaviour in any conclusive study.

Linked to violence? Bullshit! These guys need a good pounding to teach them a lesson.

Also, said tobacco style warning was stricken down as violation of free speech.

But guys, there was one kid somewhere that killed his parents over a video game, that obviously makes every single person who plays video games super violent murderers!

But guys, there was this one guy somewhere who was mentally deranged and killed some people with a gun, that obviously makes every single gun-owner a criminal BAN GUNS!!!

Violence in video games has not indicated an increasing trend in psycopathy or murderous acts (I've heard it's quite the opposite, but not evidence at hand). I've done research on this stuff for school and frankly video games (even violent ones) have a beneficial outcome to them. The people the Congressman are trying to please have no idea what they're talking about.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet that a lot of angry people vent their frustration using video games. Hell, I know that when I'm pissed I sit down in front of my tv and play some Halo or something for a few hours.
