Adobe has released a beta version (http://www.pcworld.com/article/252339/adobe_photoshop_cs6_beta_previews_new_features.htm l) of Photoshop CS6 that is free to download (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5337-adobe-photoshop-cs6.html) and try. The latest installment of the popular photo editing software for PC and Mac is said to have 60 percent more features than CS5 including around 65 user-requested features.

Last month Adobe demonstrated (http://www.techspot.com/news/47477-adobe-demos-content-aware-move-and-extend-tools-in-photoshop-cs6.html) a couple of impressive new features known as content-aware move and the extend tool, both of which are included in CS6. Content-aware allows the user to select an object and move it to a different location in the photo. The software’s algorithm will do all of the work, effectively moving the object and filling in the empty space with a believable background based on the surround areas.

Funny, I literally just finished downloading this 5 minutes ago. I actually need Photoshop for homework. I could use GIMP like usual, but I figured I'd see if Adobe managed to cut some of the fat.

Why is the default interface getting darker and darker with each new version? I like CS5's light grey, but I didn't have a problem with the white from before. Now it's dark grey and I'm having a hard time adjusting to it. Oh well, you can always change it in the preferences section.

EDIT: :P I changed it to the darkest one... just because it looks cool:

I don't see why people always say "use an alternative to Photoshop, it doesn't have many extra features you need".

And then the program you're using runs out of steam and you need Photoshop. This is why I include the Master Collection in my "must have" programs. With the Master Collection you really don't need ANYTHING else.

Hey man, can we not take this thread in that direction?

It loads much faster than any previous version of Photoshop I've used, comparing i7 to i7. I didn't install it onto the SSD, only have 45GB left.

Now, if only I had a tablet...

Love the dark theme! Reminds me of 3ds max. :neckbeard:

Ah good old marketing speak...

60% more features than the whole package of CS5 (including all features from CS, CS2, CS3 etc...) or 60% more features than was added in the CS5 update.

Plus, define a feature?

That said from the videos I've seen it looks great, have they added in that de-blur thingy?

I used to use GIMP but got tired of its terrible UI and poor GIF support.
Don't see any reason to upgrade, have all I need with whatever the hell version I have now.

You'll need an antivirus.

GIMP's interface (2.6) is largely similar to Photoshop's. The worst part is how it handles brushes. It is a pain to have to open a separate tool window just to change the size and hardness.

Well, he means when it comes to multimedia-based projects.

Dark Navi, it should be illegal for you to have photoshop. What the hell...

Anyway, I am trying it out atm, but I really don`t like the dark theme that's going on.

Does anyone know if you can import a uv'd .3ds model and paint it and have it save the results as a texture sheet?

I never touched that, but from what I recall when it was first introduced, it needs to be an .obj.

You can import a .3DS file into CS6. Heres my attempt.

Basic ramp boxy thing, unwrapped (badly) in MAX.

Painting directly onto model (you can select a camera position, left, top etc also as well as perspective)

Resulting diffuse texture direct from photoshop (double clicked on the layer)

View the model in 3d here: http://meshbin.com/m.php?id=4f773958caca0

So yeah you can, pretty cool tools and would allow you to quickly whip up a texture for a model.

How well does it handle higher poly stuff? I dont mean polies in the millions, but say like a 40k poly model?

Does it have shaders for rendering a diffuse, spec, cube etc in the photoshop viewport all at once? This would be really great if it can do that and render up to 10k polys easily.

It can do all those textures easily, you can then edit them on the fly in a new tab and then see the changes made.

http://limited-development.net/images/cs6/bitmap-options.png

In terms of handling rendering high poly, I havent had a slow down with this piece, which is 57,000 polys, the bump map (not the big wavys, the bumpy texture look) is done via the bump map slot and a texture using the default render colours filter.

Seems pretty powerful and may help quickly prototype things.

Really love all the new features in CS6, particularly the blurs.

And now for something completely different.
