View Full Version : Has anyone tried Unity 3d v3.5?

After trying out UDK and Cryengine, Unity 3d is probably the easiest development tool I have used so far. Has anyone had any experience using it? The only downside, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, is a quick in-game option which cryengine and UDK have.

Unity is okay if you properly learn it. I suppose its the same as the others but I didn't like the tools as they felt clunky to me.

I wouldn't touch Unity, but that's because I actually like to have the source to the engine I'm working with.

Licensed engines smart ass

Besides, the tech in the Halo engines is actually worth a damn.

i used unity at ubisoft.

my recoomendation: stay the FUCK away from that shit.

i voted UDK, because it's got the node-based system in it, which is infinitely more powerful than anything else.
really though, that's the only thing keeping me tethered to the UDK.

if cryengine were to copy the udk shaders and scripting, they'd put Epic out of business.
(at least until they release unrealengine4 oh woops did i say that out loud)

Bungie is gonna put 'em all out of business :mech2:

Right before they shoot them *smack*, right to the moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfJXgKTqpdE)...and then off to the sun.

Are you talking about UDK's kismet/unrealscript vs Unity's Javascript? (Although I do think you can use Javascripting with unrealscript). I downloaded a book for unity and I'm trying it out. I will learn UDK after and then see which one I like better. I understand that UDK is a much more powerful engine, but I'm just experimenting with Unity and UDK for now.

The only reason why I looked at Unity is because it seemed great to make a game quickly and efficently when working independently or with a small group of developers. I know you can create stuff quick with UDK, but isn't it leaning more towards a bigger team of people who want to create games?

I renamed HEK in the poll to the more accurately named "blam!".

Unity has a fake grid. That's all you need to know. Modular construction in the program is a god damn nightmare.
